Short Flight to Springfield Downtown in Marginal Weather

- Civil Air Patrol was hosting a fly-in up at my old home airport
Springfield Downtown (3DW) so I thought I'd fly up there with my
dad & check it out. The weather was very bad earlier that morning;
1/8 mile & OVC 002, so we waited till about 1pm when the visibility
went up to 8 miles and few at 029, because of this unfortunately we
got there too late to see much. It was some good experience for
me, I heard everything from 5 to 10 miles visibility that flight & I
know now what my personal minimums are, I've always heard that
although legally you can fly as low as 3 miles visibility (or 1
mile if you have a special VFR clearance) 3 miles is really not
enough to fly visually, not that I ever doubted that but, I know
now that's true, I would say at least 5 miles during the day & 10
at night for me.

Glad you did, my own little experience w/ bad wx reports. Didn't happen again though, the clouds kind of cleared up later but it was still very hazy.
Nice flight I was flying to ktqh about the same time. A little better weather there.
Ah,there is the video.I'm late by 3 weeks bad glad to have seen it finally!
Don't worry. I was there earlier in the day and they had almost nothing anyway. Only a Cherokee, a Cessna 195, and the CAP 182.
Yeah, I think the wx put a damper on things, I also saw on the news thay had a R44 there at some point. Too bad we missed each other.
Training is going slow. with crazy travel schedule and some weather issues it is just taking a long time. Hope to finish by end of june or July.
I was there a little bit earlier
That sounds like a nice flight, I saw the wx was a little better out that way. How's your training going?
When were you there? We didn't get there till about 3:30
Ha I was also there!!!!:)
How long since you started?
