To be fair, Natalie Dormer does smirk like she knows when the world’s gonna end.
I think Ned would have been perfectly fine with making him Jon Stark, but Catelyn was NOT about to allow that threat to her sons and their place as the rightful heirs. So, I think the only reason Ned did NOT make him a Stark was that he didn't want to disrespect Catelyn by forcing that on her when he had already dishonored her by having a bastard son in the first place.
sarah4hp yeah, catelyn wouldn’t stand for it and I don’t think Ned would have even tried because of that. But in a perfect world Ned would have made him a stark later in life, maybe Rob even. After Jon took the black he couldn’t be a threat to Winterfell’s throne anyway.
I don't know if this is considered as book spoilers for Nikki and Steven, but in the books Robb did legitimise Jon before his death and named him his heir! He was about to relieve him from his Night's Watch oath (Kings can do that)!
Personally, I don't think he would have. I think he wanted Jon to have his own name one day, Ned Stark could have been the greatest player in the game.
Didn't she say she had at one point when he was sick or after he got better she begged need to just go ahead and make him a star but he refused.

Sidenote: The 'No Ones' were mentioned two times before Jaquen made his first appearence in the show. First time when Robert wanted Daenerys dead. The small council considered hiring them to kill her but decided against it, cause it would cost to much gold. Second time was Danys maid. She mentioned a man she had seen who was able to change his face like other people their clothes. The writers love to do this. Mentioning something in a way that you don't pay much attention to it and then, some seasons later.......

With this scene with Dany, I always think of the Ned quote, "If you would take a man's life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die."
Now, I'm not saying I don't think Dany did the right thing here; she was upholding her own laws. However, she's not a squeamish girl. By looking away, it makes me think that *she* didn't believe he deserved to die.
Great reaction as always! Jon had a good point about why he turned Stannis down. Remember what happened to Robb when he treated his vows recklessly? At least he's Lord Commander now. I loved it when Sam tore down Janos Slynt.

In reference to your conversation at the beginning - I love how much Jon's character has grown from season one to now, and yet there are some elements of his character that have always been there. One thing he has never had a problem with is doing the right thing to the detriment of himself. This can be seen in the very first episode when he essentially saved the wolf pups by suggesting that the trueborn Stark children were meant to have them (This happened before he found Ghost). Therefore it could be said that he saved the wolves by eliminating himself from the possibility of having one. I think that it is because he came from the belief that he is of little worth (as a bastard) that he puts the lives of others above his own desires.

I think Drogon was able to sense that Danny was in danger and came by to check up on her. With Tywin gone Cersi doesn’t have any type of restraint. Nothing that lady touches can be any good....I think she’s he parent that Joffrey got all his crazy from.

Winning a battle and freeing the slaves was the "easy" part for Daenerys, she knew who the enemy was. But ruling the city is a completely different thing. Every decision you make has consequences, you don't know who to trust and no matter what you do someone is going to be unhappy. If you are soft your enemies will take advantage, if you are ruthless people will fear you but hate you. And you can't explain every decision you make to the people. So yeah, Daenerys is in a very tough spot. She can listen and learn, but in the end all the weight of every decision is on her shoulders.I think she's supposed to be 13 on the first books and 17 years old on the first season, she's very young and has zero experience, so she's going to make mistakes (obviously).
Sansa makes mistakes and screws over herself and others hundreds of time "Oh but she was just a child".
Dany has the weight of millions of ppl over her shoulder "MAD QUEEN" They're only 2 years of age apart in the books

Ruling is still new for Danaerys. She's still learning, but don't count her out yet.

It’s crazy how Cersei always tries to make herself out to be the victim in this show. She does horrible things to other people and their children but as soon as you look like you might do something similar to her or her children and then you’re crossing a line.

I find that she resents the fact that she was born a woman because if she wasn't she could have been the perfect heir to Tywin. She even referred to herself as Tywin but with teats. Tywin really did put it best tho when he said he didn't trust her because she was a woman, but because she wasn't as smart as she thought she was. All the paranoia and elitism really blinded her and made her a walking contradiction.

I love the way Dany's storyline is built. In the first three seasons she's the most badass character, a conqueror. And then, she has conquered already, now she has to rule. And i think this is the dificult part por her, beacause she has to learn how to rule.

Love you guys views on the whole Dany situation. This man who was on her council deliberately disobeyed her and murdered a man. If she was soft on her punishment it could have led to more people disobeying her and not taking her orders seriously. It was a difficult decision which she clearly didn’t enjoy making, but it was the right one.

The music / theme for the Jaqen H'ghar / Faceless Men scenes is often overlooked in favor of the Stark or Targaryen theme, but it is brilliant.
Varys came from Essos. He was Ilyrio’s best friend before he earned a spot in a Westerosi court under Daenerys’ dad.

Honestly most of the ppl who say she always makes bad decisions, in her situation would've made worse ones, no matter how much they brag they wouldnt. Shes damned if she does, damned if she doesnt with them. So fuck it. The whole point of her plot in Meereen is to learn how to rule, and u learn the most form ur mistakes not victories, as the great Bjorn Ironside once said. Even GRRM said that he made her book 5 plot abt the things that were missing from the LOTR when Aragorn ruled, LOTR never says the laws he made, the financial decisions, the difficulty of trying to please everyone.

Yeah I think Nikki nailed it. Dany can't just change the way the people feel in Slaver's Bay, and she's more or less said as much.
It's brutal, but the master's have a lot of justifiable payback coming their way. If they won't leave, these kinds of things are just going to keep happening; there's just too much bad blood for it to go down any other way.
There's about a million steps to take in Slaver's Bay before things will be running the way everybody wants. This is just too much, too fast.
Let's crown them 'Steven I and Nikki I, Emperor and Empress of America'.

If Ned had legitimized Jon, Cat would have been deeply wounded and insulted. It would have put him in the line of succession, and he is about a month or two older than Robb. It's why she couldn't keep her promise, I think. The Tully words are "Family, Duty, Honor", and Cat takes them to heart.

Can we take a moment to notice another great performance in Ciarán Hinds playing Mance. Though his part was small he played him awesome. If you have not seen the Rome series he is amazing in that as well
After several videos of Steven saying Jon Snow in Jamaican I'm still giggling. 🤣
Tip: the accent on the word Snow in northern England is on the 'no' but to be fair it depends on how you pronounce that as well. Hard to describe because if you move 50 miles in any direction in Britain the accent and dialect can be totally different.
GoT in the morning, yay! Uncle Kevan is badass. Always love seeing Uncle Kevan! Lots of good stuff in the episode, and I love your discussions about the show. And Doran Martell does not want war, not like that. Think about it. Dorne is not as populated as the rest of the realm, and a war would probably end up destroying them at this point. It's not enough to just want revenge, he has to think about his people. With Oberyn dying in a legal fight, that's not a basis for war.
Dany learned the lesson that a free people can only be ruled by consent.
As you watch "The House of Black and White" you're both wearing black and white. Lol! Nikki, your reaction at the end of every episode is the same as everyone else but you can watch it right away, we had to wait a week between shows! Can't wait for tomorrow's reaction! :)
This clearly shows another misconception people (in general) have about ruling. Just because you make the right decision, that doesn't mean it's going to have a good outcome. Sometimes, when you do something for people, they can take it to mean that you are now "on their side", like no matter what they do you'll support them. Dany IS on the side of the slaves, but not to the point where they can overstep and do things they aren't supposed to against each other and Daenerys. Had that man Mossador murdered actually been innocent for whatever reason, then Dany has an innocent man to obtain justice for.
The problem with what Daenarys is doing is that you can't install rule of law without developing a social order first. Meereen is made up of two populations who absolutely hate each other, they cannot simply begin to live together as if Meereen's entire history has become null and void just because she conquered it.
Its no coincidence that The free city of Braavos would remind one of Venice as it is modeled after the Italian independent city states of the middle ages and early Renaissance. It is more wealthy and civilized than arguably any other place in this world, and even allows practitioners of all religions to worship freely. This is an important point in understanding the faceless men, as you'll see.
The entire Slaver's bay storyline is George R. R. Martin's response to the Iraq war. Dany (the US) comes and overthrows the evil rulers, but only causes more problems and ends up having to rule over a place they don't belong. He's also said in interviews it's one of the hardest places he's written himself into cause he didn't know how to solve the issues there.
Yeah I surmised that too and it is an effective exploration of such a quandary, sort of (The dynamics of Meereen are about class as opposed to religion). But I've always had an issue with GRRM''s need to make points about things instead of just telling a story. That may be how he got into this mess and why he may never finish the novels.

As far as the North knows Bran and Rickon were killed by Theon so Stannis sees Jon as a way to get the North behind him. He may be a Snow but he is Ned's only living son as far as anyone knows.

This is something that I didn't realise initially when watching season 5, but the lady speaking to Doran Martell is Ellaria Sand, Oberyn Martell's "paramour", who we saw last season a lot. When I first starting watching it, I thought she was Doran's wife. Also The Sand Snakes are children of Ellaria and Oberyn.

Interestingly, there’s a parallel to how Stannis deals with subjects overstepping their bounds vs. Dani. Dani is more concerned about how she’ll look as a ruler if she’s undermined like this. She wants to be seen as just and fair, but it’s Stannis who comes through as actually IS in this instance.

I was in the gardens and the palace where they shot the scenes from Dorne a year ago. They are huge and one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. If you ever have the chance to visit Sevilla in Spain, that's a must see.
You guys should rewatch Season 1 at some point, you always notice more things than you did before! Illyrio was the guy who's house Dany and Viserys had been staying at for 2 years previous to the first episode, he helped "sell" Dany to Drogo, and gave Dany the dragon eggs as a wedding gift!
Awwww you guys didn’t show the moment with Stannis talking to Jon about the message from Lyanna Mormont - hope you guys enjoyed that moment because I always thought it was so cool and shows of what Jon said about the northerners being loyal to their own, and even what Tyrion said to Tywin about “the northerners will never forget”

Background, not a spoiler: because the Night's Watch has such trouble keeping their numbers up, they've been known to raid wildling villages, kidnap babies, and raise them in the watch. Mance *Rayder* was taken in a raid.

Idk why, but when I watched this episode today I noticed that not only does the title refer to the actual House of Black and White in Braavos, but my mind also noticed that two characters of focus in this episode were...Jon...wearing black...and Danaerys...wearing white! while talking about Drogon burning Maureen down in very episode, you are forgetting what Barristan Selmy told to Daenarys about her father, aka the mad king, who lost everything (the love and the respect of the poeple, his kingdom, his family and his life...) because of his tendancies to "burn them all"...

Arya waiting for days at the House of Black and White reminds me of that old 70's tv show "Kung Fu", where David Carradine's character also has to wait outside the Shaolin monastery for days until the monks accept him lol

It was a bit sad that Mossador (the former slave) faces the consequences for murdering a Harpy but there is little justice for the people murdered by Harpies. I think this was one of the first signs that, despite Dany's wanting to align herself with the oppressed she sees herself among the lords.
Wow! Very refreshing take on Daenerys' decision here. Most people are quick to condemn her for it but you guys are able to recognize she tried to do the right thing in this matter.
It really is endlessly satisfying to see Cersei realize how little control she actually has over people. The thing she's failed to grasp her entire life is that nobody is afraid of or respects Cersei Lannister, but *everyone* feared and respected Tywin Lannister. All the privileges Cersei enjoyed up until now were because nobody dared to cross Tywin. Without his presence, Cersei is nothing and nobody. Qyburn is one of the only true allies she has, and I honestly don't even get why he cares enough follow her.
