    Jon being trampled was important. Until that point, since he came back from the dead, he'd just been going through the motions. This was the first time he started fighting for his life again. The first time he WANTED to live since coming back. His proper rebirth of sorts.

    One of my favorite little details in this episode was Melissandre watching the banner of the Boltons go down in Winterfell.
    In episode seven in the last season, she told Stannis that she saw a big battle in the snow. And when he had doubts to win the battle she said: "I have seen myself walk along the battlements of Winterfell. I have seen the flayed man banners lowered to the ground." That's why she was so certain, that Stannis would win. Too bad the Lord Of Light didn't show her which banner was the one that was rolled out after that.

    I think when Ramsey said “ I’m a part of you now” ... he was implying to all the psychological damages he inflicted on her and that did leave permanent scars. While Sansa had been beat down in kings landing, she still held some hope. She trusted the Tyrells, hoped she could marry loras. There were small glimmers but that was really crushed by Ramsey. Remember what she said to Jon “ no one can protect anyone”... she lost it all sense of hope in heroes and good endings. She is now a much more cold and calculated person bc of what happened. She loves Jon but couldn’t really trust him to tell him the whole truth and that’s the fuck up part.

      Zigzagging only works if there is hope of escape. The whole point was to draw Jon into the killzone for Ramsay's archers. Zigzagging would have only drawn Jon deeper into the trap.

    • @AWSVids
      @AWSVids 5 лет назад +1

      It's arguable whether zig-zagging would have done anything, given how good of an archer Ramsay is and the limited space of the battlefield. Remember, Jon had set up the battlefield so that there was no entry, or escape, from the sides. (Tormund-voice... "Good.") Rickon could only have gone so far and would have been in Ramsay's range the whole time. Rickon's instinct, and probably his best bet, was to try to run out of range as soon as possible, and that means decking it as fast as possible in the opposite direction. Zig-zagging would have wasted time and kept him at closer range for longer. He did keep glancing back everytime Ramsay shot, trying to see the arrow and make his best effort to dodge it, but he likely couldn't see much against the sky and didn't know which way to go to dodge it... if going right would mean running right into it or going left would... again, his instinct remained to just run AWAY from it and towards Jon as fast as possible.

    The scene where jon gets trampelled is actually a very important scene as it was Kit haringtons, the actor of Jon, idea to include it.
    It shows the true rebirth of jon. Before the battle..he just fought because he thought it was his duty. He was fine with dying. Thats why he doesent wanted to be ressurrected again.
    Kit described it something along this way "at first he thinks about just giving up. Be over with it. He accepts death..but then he looks up to the light and decides to fight back..thats the true rebirth, the real Moment Jon came back to live."

      "Scenes like these might not get him awards but he has my respect."
      I agree wholeheartedly. I've had to defend Harington as an actor and performer to people who have said he's not a very good actor. He may be a bit stiff when it comes to dialogue sometimes (although, I think it works for Jon and makes the times when he does really emote all the more powerful, IMO), but his ability to totally inhabit Jon's physical experience is really impressive. You really believe he's in the middle of an intense fight. His pain and exhaustion really shows. I remember back after season 5 had aired and there was poll on WinterisComing for who the MVP of the season was for acting, and while it was tempting to give it to Lena Headey for the Walk of Shame alone, I truly thought Harington deserved it for really bringing Jon into his own that season. And a big part of what had impressed me was his performance in Hardhome. Both his speech to the wildlings in the hut, but also for his physical performance during the battle scene. And not just the fighting, but also his disoriented state after the White Walker hits him to the ground and then he kills it. That shot of him epicly doubling over in the snow afterwards feels practically Shakespearean in fashion, but somehow it doesn't feel melodramatic. I think that's harder to pull off than most people really realize, and perhaps it's something that even Kit needs to be expertly directed by a guy like Sapochnik in order to accomplish. Either way, I wish acting awards considered more than just emotional dialogue scenes. Good action acting is a fine art too.

    • @anafreitas1646
      @anafreitas1646 5 лет назад +2

      AWS Vids, for me the acting it was actually one of the high points of the following season. Although there's plenty of action, all of the actors gave a much better POV character performance. Many dialogue scenes gave me a Sopranos vibe, like they were cut too early in the conversation. The actors were amazing at giving us this vibe, some more than others granted.
      Headey & Dinklage are guru masters at this. Williams & Turner not so much, lol, but we tend to forget how young they still were.

    So, the debate continues but my thinking is that if the Knights of the Vale had showed up too early then Ramsay would have just stayed in Winterfell and it would have been a long drawn out siege. By keeping their pending arrival secret, Sansa tricked Ramsay into sending his army outside Winterfell where they were vulnerable. At least that's the story I tell myself.

      Allyson Wonderland - yes, if you go with this idea the follow up question is certainly "why didn't she tell Jon her plan?". And this is where it gets interesting - maybe she thought if Jon knew help was coming, Jon would decide to go with a long drawn out siege which Sansa didn't want? Or maybe it wasn't a conscious decision to deceive him, she just wasn't sure what to do? Maybe she purposely allowed Jon to draw Ramsay's army out - a cold, ruthless strategy but similar to when Robb Stark sacrificed 2,000 men in order to surprise Jaime's army back in Season 1?

      It's little details like that... most shows don't even care about continuity in scenes let alone details like that. How many time have we seen characters start a trip in the morning, travel half the planet on foot & still arrive in time for lunch? Yep, the new avarage viewer is sooooo done with crap like that, for good, after a show like GOT.

    I feel like there a few reasons why Sansa didn't tell Jon about the Vale army. First of all, most likely she didn't know for sure whether they were coming, she sent the letter to LF but maybe he didn't send anything back. And she did basically tell him to f off earlier this season. She hoped that the Vale would come but she wasn't sure. If they didn't come and they had waited the weather could've changed and it would have been even harder for them to win. Secondly, she would've had to tell Jon why the Vale army would even make it in time, why they were at Moat Cailin and that she had refused the help LF had offered. And related to that the third point being, she would've had to have told him about her meeting with LF in the first place. She didn't want LF involved at all, she doesn't trust him.
    Also I feel like LF intentionally waited a bit longer to come just so that Jon's army was weakened as well, maybe he hoped for Jon to die in the battle so he could have Sansa and Winterfell for himself. Originally he wanted Stannis and Boltons to kill each other and then swoop in and destroy what little was left with the Vale army to take Winterfell.

    • @amandabossie8958
      @amandabossie8958 5 лет назад +21

      Another thing to consider could be that she was afraid of what asking LF for help actually meant...like what she might be expected to return in payment.
      Or possibly that she might be worried that, although he desperately needed the men, Jon would refuse the help if she explained the whole situation to him...like refuse LF for honors sake?

      Anon Ymes Even if jon wasnt thinking jon just letting rickon die would look bad on him either way the north was watching, his own men were watching he had no real choice here wether it was emotional or not rickon was the heir and even if they knew he was dead before this the northerners didnt and it was personal for jon anyway because it was the only reason why he went, hes not exactly experienced in open field battles he had the wall before, if he was thinking logically he probably wouldve done the same even though he knew he was running into a trap. Everyone looks down at jon saying hes stupid but its not like anyonelse came up with a better plan that made use of their numbers versus ramseys, Sansa and theon knew about ramsey because they experienced what he was capable of, jon had no clue, in this case I agree that Sansa shouldve told jon about the knights of the vale. Also jon had to use the his bulk force made up of mostly wildings so he could only make use of their own abilities in battle.

    • @anonymes2884
      @anonymes2884 5 лет назад

      crystal L. They _did_ come up with a better plan, the night before (where they discussed _exactly_ this idea of _not_ being drawn out, of letting Ramsey charge at their position where they had dug trenches on their flanks to avoid _exactly_ what ended up happening - being surrounded in a pincer move). Jon, in the heat of the moment, forgets all that.
      Is it _understandable_ ? Sure. I've got a younger brother myself, in the same situation I might respond the same way. But it's still hot-headed and rash, something a good general never is.

    As Jon rose to the surface, it reminded me of an episode of a show I watched years ago (can’t remember what show though, might have been One Tree Hill??). Basically the character wanted to die, or at least thought he did and was just going through the motions of life for other people’s sakes. So he wheeled himself into a swimming pool and sank to the bottom, and then you see him erupt from the water gasping for air, fighting to live.

I don’t blame her for not telling Jon, even when she still loves and cares for him, her trust in people has been shattered. And like Nikki said, she didn’t know if they would show up which is another reason she didn’t say anything. Hope that helps.

      What r u tlkn about? Jon is the 1st stark she has seen in years. So she let all of her bannermen/wildlings go out there and die overall weakening her own forces when she knew they were outmatched instead of saying 'hey jon. I sent a letter to littlefinger asking him to bring the knights of the vale so we can plan a strategy around that possibility'... even if they didnt show up there was absolutely no reason to keep that information from jon except for her own vanity and selfishness and stupid writing from the showrunners. It was a gamble for her and he could have just refused to go or say he would go and then don't. But Baelish was smarter, he never left the spot he was because he knew Sansa was going to need him. She didn't trust him enough, she didn't want to use his help and that was it. Now, as you can see, she has a debt with him, a debt she didn't want to have with LF, of all people. But yes, look, Sansa and Jon had a huge problem with communication between each other. He didn't listen to her and she wasn't completely honest, that's how a reunion between two siblings who never had a connection before happens. Jon didn't listen to her when she said to take their time and meet with more houses of the North, he said they should fight with what they had and from that point on, I think Sansa realized she HAD used the knights of the Vale. As for Rickon... he would have died anyway. Ramsay was going to make sure of that & only Sansa came to terms with it.
