How can you guys like this episode?? Steven even said he hopes the Night King WINS the whole show and sits on the throne. He died in 1 episode after 7 seasons. No duel between John and the night King. Not even a single fight between a white and a human. The entire episode was blurry and dark. We didn't even see how Arya snuck up on the night King. She was terrified of 10 whites in a library with tons of places to hide. She got found hiding under a table and had to throw a book just to escape. Than 15 minutes later she sneaks through thousands of whites and all of the night Kings lieutenants in a wide open area without being noticed, and to top it off one shots the night king. Also, what was Bran even doing this episode?? I was expecting some kind of twist or at least bran to worg into a dragon. But all he did was stare at the night king the whole time. Seriously, that's it. It was pointless and served no purpose.

Watching the Dothraki get swallowed whole like that was legitimately terrifying. It seemed like they just vanished into the freaking aether like they never even existed.
It was masterful. Mel shows up, epically lights the swords, and the Warriors we've been in awe of since the first episode almost a decade ago go charging into battle with flaming swords. That shot of them riding was gorgeous. We are primed for a long epic sequence, all hyped up, and then..... Flicker flicker.... Dark. Set the tone for the whole episode.
BEST scene of the episode. The lighting of their swords was so badass, sent goosebumps up me, then that awesome charge into the darkness. And then, gone....
@Zsuzsanna Varga Well it is true they way wasted and sending all of them was not that smart but then again I'm always trying to find someone to explain how they would have been used in a better way, the deal here is that I always find the same critics with no explanation for it or how to fix it And here i'm talking only a about the dotrakhi cause as we already know they would be usless inside the castle and of course the fact they wouldn't fit in. Unsullied are alright where they are cause they are great a resistence, the other armies I think they do could have fit in the castle.

@Kasch I don't want to argue much with you as you seem to be a true fan and had other expectations but I would recommend to wait until the next episode atleast or the one after before making these calls, as I have a feeling there are a few red herrings sprinkled about in this episode. And something is def up with Bran. I could be wrong, of course.
@Kasch To be fair, if anyone has the capability to sneak up on the NK in the entire series, it's Arya. Jon Snow couldn't even follow the NK quietly outside in the battlefield lol.

@@LeMaqnifique id say depends on how many followers you have. i love watching their reactions and planned on watching regardless of when it was uploaded. other channels like blindwave or normies have no problem taking their time but many people still check them out bc theyre really enjoyable as well. id honestly rather wait an extra fewhours to get both part1/2 at the same time then have them spaced out . dont really understand it. you watched the episode in one sitting. it wasnt like a literal part1/2 in the show. if it takes time to edit no problem im sure nobody would actually mind. and its not as if people would only watch part 2 theyd watch both

My heart dropped when the lights start dying out one by one when the Dothraki rushed in. They got devoured by a wave of wights. Then the scene with the unsullied and the other ones came in. Holy! I was at the edge of my sofa for the whole show. I barely touched the food I prepared. The best episode of the whole season. Rewatched it for the 3rd time. Still gives me goosebumps

MELISANDRE WAS EPIC! Her theme played during the fire part is SO COOL
This was a weird one for me. I think it was one of the best things I've ever seen in any medium, but at the same time the ending and some of the improbable survivals doesn't sit well with me.
Same thoughts. Visually one of the best battles I've ever seen depicted on television. Plot wise felt a little anticlimactic. Could have worked for me if this was episode 5 with Cersei already having been taken care of in say episode 3. Episode 6 being some kind of bittersweet conclusion.
It's Game of Thrones. Everyone expected mass top tier character deaths and the night king to be the final villain. They are experts at subverting expectations.
Low key one of the best moments of this episode was Sansa and Arya watching in absolute awe as Jon Snow. Rode a DRAGON. Alongside a Targaryen. Burning white walkers. Especially since they've never really seen first hand that absolute destruction a dragon can bring. So much has to be going through their minds in that moment. I've rewound that little scene more times than I can remember!
All i could think was why would you send you cavalry in first with no support????????????? Easily in the top 10 most ignorant shit i have seen in a tv show. Closely followed by them positioning their catapults in front of their army. As a huge fan of RTS games i wanted to bash my face into my desk.

David and Pamela, thankfully it does seem that Ghost survived. At the 18 second mark of episode 4 trailer (you have to pause it because the part goes by too quickly) you can see what appears to be Ghost standing next to Varys. You can't see him completely because Sam starts walking right in front of him, but it does look like Ghost, so thank goodness because I was so worried about him too :(

Ser Jorah was always my favorite character, and to see him die in that way, with complete honor, defending his Queen from endless enemies despite fatal injuries all the way to the end, I man-cried.

They were out of their elements guys, skirmish cavalry like dothraki should never be used in massive battles where they are on the defensive side. They are suppose to attack and run away. No where or way to run in this situation so they were fucked from the beginning.

@@ivnjpg They all eventually had to charge at the dead even Jon and Dany. The Dothraki had flaming weapons so it wasn't that dark they were just overwhelmed. We lost most of the unsullied and they never charged, It's all just a matter of if you would rather die inside or outside winterfell.
That glimmer of hope when Melisandre lit the Dothraki swords. Then it's taken away in a matter of seconds. I knew the episode was going to be absolutely insane. I screamed at my screen for an entire hour at the characters.
I love how most of the comments so far are to check on Nikki! 😂 We were right there with you girl, the entire episode! It’s exhausting but probably the best episode to date! It took 55 night shoots to film just this one episode and broke the world record! Incredible how hard these people work on this show!
The Dothraki got gobbled up. I thought for a second that Dothraki wights were riding back. Disappointed because it would have been cool to see, but also glad that wasn't the case. Edit: this is literally just what I had a thought of in this to split seconds in hearing the hoofbeats coming back. Later on, after this, we do indeed find out that the night King was not right there. Thank you for explaining that to me everyone in the comment, no one asked though. In that to Split Second, you also did not know that the night King was not there. We all watched the same episode and found out at the exact same time.

What I don't understand is why they're set up outside the city walls? The whole reason you HAVE walls is to act as a defense. They could be raining fire down on the enemy while they attacked the wall and tried to scale it.
"Never fight the Dothraki on an open field" -- King Robert Baratheon. White Walkers, "Hold our beer". It was the charge of the Light Brigrade all over again... But really the Dothraki would have been ill suited to fighting on the defensive and in Winterfell.

Overall good episode but first part of the battle was too dark even though I like the natural lighting. Hated how often they used the trope of panning out when a character was surrounded and on the brink of death, only to come back 10 minutes later and being saved by a 3rd party. Night king also under-utilized!
Yeah, I'm worried they care more about fan service at this point, rather than sticking to the unpredictability that made this show amazing the first several seasons..I guess the rest of this season is going be one of those "Shut your brain off and enjoy the entertainment" type of experiences. I hope I'm wrong, but after season 7, we shouldn't be surprised..

All these people talking about the lighting well I didnt really have any issues with that. Maybe on a TV it was different but I was watching on my laptop. I loved the battle scenes they were so well directed especially the dothraki from that far off view.
I’ve been a silent watcher for a while now and I just have to say. I’m in love with Nikki’s rawness her soul is so pure. Her reaction is honest. I love her voice, hair, emotion, eyes, everything 💕💕
one of the best things i have ever seen from a tv show of any genre....the tension building was absolutely unreal... i habe never in my life actually gripped the side of my sofa watchin a tv show or movie... when the dothraki fire faded away into the dark my blood pressure and anxiety went through the fucking roof... that shot of the dragons flying over sansa going out on a recon was class.... fantastic episode.
This episode was insane!! OMG! I cried for the first time when Jorah, Ghost and the Dothrakis rode to battle. Was an emotional mess throughout the whole episode.
Ambiance + set up was so perfect. I've never felt such immediate dread/hopelessness/death. Like it really seems like there is absolutely no way of winning and it's just endless darkness. And seeing the straight up fear in everyone's eyes.. seeing people retreat bcus they just stared at Death in the face and are breaking... Chills. Regardless of the ending, this was so well done.
I had to come out and say this. While I did feel there were some minor things that could have been done better, I largely disagree with people calling out the Winterfell battle storyline to be a cop out, underwhelming and disappointing. The only thing I have a big issue with is that the long night storyline ended mid season when this should have been towards the end of the show (and the Cercei storyline perhaps dealt with last season), and that we should have had those extra 3 episodes last season to build things a little more. I'll address a couple of things that people seem to be most mad at. First, the Dothraki charge. People are saying it makes no sense at all for them to charge to their deaths like they did. I disagree. They acted exactly how you would expect them to. These are fearless warriors who kill for passion and relish battle. They were brought to a new land by a dragon riding leader, something that had never happened in their entire history, with a promise that they will be facing tougher opponents than they have ever faced before. The first battle they got was totally one sided and left them disappointed. Now they are in the north, being told they are fighting dead people who they most likely underestimate. Waiting for the enemy to attack is not in their nature, they are used to being the ones carrying out the plunder, unbeatable in an open field. They were itching to go fight and were given magic fire ara'akhs, enough to get the better of their patience and give them the nudge. You can see Ser Jorah not leading this charge, joining them unwillingly perhaps. Only Dany could have contained them and she was not around. Now for the biggest thing people are mad at, the NK being killed by Arya instead of Jon who seemingly that storyline was built around. I disagree, I thought it was perfectly carried out through the last 10 years, totally under the radar so everyone would miss it, in perfect GRRM fashion. The clues were all there, the dagger was introduced in S01E02 with Bran and was the ignition point of the initial wars. Arya was tought to defeat death a few episodes later and the Melissandre forshadowing happened in S02, with the dagger again becoming a centerpiece in S07. The NK storyline was always about Bran and Arya. Jon just happened to be at the wall and meet with the NK, Melissandre and Beric to throw us all off the trail, just like this show has always done. Without Arya killing the NK, her arc would have had a pretty underwhelming conclusion. She had a long list but the only major kill to her name was Walder Frey. Even killing Cersei would not have justified the two seasons she spent in Braavos. This however, makes her time there mean so much, especially since it is often seen as one of the weaker points of the show, again the brilliance of the story. People are mad because they got played and couldn't catch the signs that were there all along (like they did with Jon's heritage.) As far as Jon goes, his main storyline has always been the throne. He just threw all our calculations off because he was at the wall and was brought back from the dead, which made perfect sense as none of this would have happened if he remained dead. This has never been a show with a single plotline, so why is it hard to accept that we currently have two major plotlines? One just ended with Bran and Arya (and Mel and Theon) being the centerpieces and the other will focus on Jon, Dany, Cersei, Tyrion and Jaime.

Just because I disagree with you? Also, the show is called GAME OF THRONES not ASOIAF, the writers take liberties, doesn't work out every time and works out brilliantly at other times. The ending of this episode, pretty sure GRRM is going the same way given how he has set the story up. 🙋🏼♀️I have a question! People are assuming Bran “warged” into Arya to bring her to him. But people are also pointing out Melisandre’s chat with Arya is what sent her running to her brother’s aid! So who else do we think Bran could’ve been warging into? Maybe it’s to be revealed in a future episode? They really didn’t make it clear and that’s usually deliberate. Apologies if I’m spelling warging wrong! Edit: If people could please stop speed reading and assuming I think Bran warged into Arya, because I never said, nor do I think that. The question was is there anyone else, other than the ravens or the twitter theory of Arya, who Bran could’ve warged into during the battle that would’ve been beneficial at any point? So was Bran just amongst the birds luring the Night King towards him? I thought the mark on his arm was the homing beacon and didn’t need extra luring. So my thought was he warged into someone else. @@MothproofKT The best we can do is use the information given to us. We saw Bran's eyes turn white followed by a shot of ravens flying through the battle suggesting that he had warged into them. We never say Arya's eyes turn white and we saw her leave a room on her own free will. There is just no evidence to suggest that Bran warged into Arya.

Aesthetically was a beautiful episode that set the right mood and really showed the dire odds they were against. Plot wise, thought it was a little on the anticlimactic side. Cersei as the final villain just doesn't sit right against the Night King. Also felt a bit like Deus Ex Machina or more like Deus Ex Arya at the end. But we still have three more log episodes left so I'm still hoping for a worthy conclusion.
TBH, for a show this big it is going to be nearly impossible to conclude without being anti climatic. Even if it follows the theory videos people post, many people would still be unsatisfied and call it predictable.

My heart dropped when the lights start dying out one by one when the Dothraki rushed in. They got devoured by a wave of wights. Then the scene with the unsullied and the other ones came in. Holy! I was at the edge of my sofa for the whole show. I barely touched the food I prepared. The best episode of the whole season. Rewatched it for the 3rd time. Still gives me goosebumps

This was a weird one for me. I think it was one of the best things I've ever seen in any medium, but at the same time the ending and some of the improbable survivals doesn't sit well with me.
Same thoughts. Visually one of the best battles I've ever seen depicted on television. Plot wise felt a little anticlimactic. Could have worked for me if this was episode 5 with Cersei already having been taken care of in say episode 3. Episode 6 being some kind of bittersweet conclusion.

Low key one of the best moments of this episode was Sansa and Arya watching in absolute awe as Jon Snow. Rode a DRAGON. Alongside a Targaryen. Burning white walkers. Especially since they've never really seen first hand that absolute destruction a dragon can bring. So much has to be going through their minds in that moment. I've rewound that little scene more times than I can remember!

David and Pamela, thankfully it does seem that Ghost survived. At the 18 second mark of episode 4 trailer (you have to pause it because the part goes by too quickly) you can see what appears to be Ghost standing next to Varys. You can't see him completely because Sam starts walking right in front of him, but it does look like Ghost, so thank goodness because I was so worried about him too :(

Ser Jorah was always my favorite character, and to see him die in that way, with complete honor, defending his Queen from endless enemies despite fatal injuries all the way to the end, I man-cried.

They were out of their elements guys, skirmish cavalry like dothraki should never be used in massive battles where they are on the defensive side. They are suppose to attack and run away. No where or way to run in this situation so they were fucked from the beginning.

@@ivnjpg They all eventually had to charge at the dead even Jon and Dany. The Dothraki had flaming weapons so it wasn't that dark they were just overwhelmed. We lost most of the unsullied and they never charged, It's all just a matter of if you would rather die inside or outside winterfell.
That glimmer of hope when Melisandre lit the Dothraki swords. Then it's taken away in a matter of seconds. I knew the episode was going to be absolutely insane. I screamed at my screen for an entire hour at the characters.

I thought for a second that Dothraki wights were riding back. Disappointed because it would have been cool to see, but also glad that wasn't the case.
Edit: this is literally just what I had a thought of in this to split seconds in hearing the hoofbeats coming back. Later on, after this, we do indeed find out that the night King was not right there. Thank you for explaining that to me everyone in the comment, no one asked though. In that to Split Second, you also did not know that the night King was not there. We all watched the same episode and found out at the exact same time.

What I don't understand is why they're set up outside the city walls? The whole reason you HAVE walls is to act as a defense. They could be raining fire down on the enemy while they attacked the wall and tried to scale it.

I would have really liked to see the perspective of a Dothraki as the swords are lit. Maybe with some kind of quote about it being a sign of a true “prophecy”
Overall good episode but first part of the battle was too dark even though I like the natural lighting. Hated how often they used the trope of panning out when a character was surrounded and on the brink of death, only to come back 10 minutes later and being saved by a 3rd party. Night king also under-utilized!
Specially when jon was surrounded by wights , it shouldn't even be possible to save him at that moment

All these people talking about the lighting well I didnt really have any issues with that. Maybe on a TV it was different but I was watching on my laptop. I loved the battle scenes they were so well directed especially the dothraki from that far off view.
Funny thing for me was I watched first showing on my newer tv and I had trouble seeing shit but on my 8 year old tv it looked fine lol.

one of the best things i have ever seen from a tv show of any genre....the tension building was absolutely unreal... i habe never in my life actually gripped the side of my sofa watchin a tv show or movie... when the dothraki fire faded away into the dark my blood pressure and anxiety went through the fucking roof... that shot of the dragons flying over sansa going out on a recon was class.... fantastic episode.
This episode was insane!! OMG! I cried for the first time when Jorah, Ghost and the Dothrakis rode to battle. Was an emotional mess throughout the whole episode.
Ambiance + set up was so perfect. I've never felt such immediate dread/hopelessness/death. Like it really seems like there is absolutely no way of winning and it's just endless darkness. And seeing the straight up fear in everyone's eyes.. seeing people retreat bcus they just stared at Death in the face and are breaking... Chills. Regardless of the ending, this was so well done.

I had to come out and say this. While I did feel there were some minor things that could have been done better, I largely disagree with people calling out the Winterfell battle storyline to be a cop out, underwhelming and disappointing. The only thing I have a big issue with is that the long night storyline ended mid season when this should have been towards the end of the show (and the Cercei storyline perhaps dealt with last season), and that we should have had those extra 3 episodes last season to build things a little more.
I'll address a couple of things that people seem to be most mad at. First, the Dothraki charge. People are saying it makes no sense at all for them to charge to their deaths like they did. I disagree. They acted exactly how you would expect them to. These are fearless warriors who kill for passion and relish battle. They were brought to a new land by a dragon riding leader, something that had never happened in their entire history, with a promise that they will be facing tougher opponents than they have ever faced before. The first battle they got was totally one sided and left them disappointed. Now they are in the north, being told they are fighting dead people who they most likely underestimate. Waiting for the enemy to attack is not in their nature, they are used to being the ones carrying out the plunder, unbeatable in an open field. They were itching to go fight and were given magic fire ara'akhs, enough to get the better of their patience and give them the nudge. You can see Ser Jorah not leading this charge, joining them unwillingly perhaps. Only Dany could have contained them and she was not around.
Now for the biggest thing people are mad at, the NK being killed by Arya instead of Jon who seemingly that storyline was built around. I disagree, I thought it was perfectly carried out through the last 10 years, totally under the radar so everyone would miss it, in perfect GRRM fashion. The clues were all there, the dagger was introduced in S01E02 with Bran and was the ignition point of the initial wars. Arya was tought to defeat death a few episodes later and the Melissandre forshadowing happened in S02, with the dagger again becoming a centerpiece in S07. The NK storyline was always about Bran and Arya. Jon just happened to be at the wall and meet with the NK, Melissandre and Beric to throw us all off the trail, just like this show has always done. Without Arya killing the NK, her arc would have had a pretty underwhelming conclusion. She had a long list but the only major kill to her name was Walder Frey. Even killing Cersei would not have justified the two seasons she spent in Braavos. This however, makes her time there mean so much, especially since it is often seen as one of the weaker points of the show, again the brilliance of the story. People are mad because they got played and couldn't catch the signs that were there all along (like they did with Jon's heritage.)
As far as Jon goes, his main storyline has always been the throne. He just threw all our calculations off because he was at the wall and was brought back from the dead, which made perfect sense as none of this would have happened if he remained dead. This has never been a show with a single plotline, so why is it hard to accept that we currently have two major plotlines? One just ended with Bran and Arya (and Mel and Theon) being the centerpieces and the other will focus on Jon, Dany, Cersei, Tyrion and Jaime.
Skip reading this nonsense. This person thinks they have it all figured out and you should think the same way.

Also, the show is called GAME OF THRONES not ASOIAF, the writers take liberties, doesn't work out every time and works out brilliantly at other times. The ending of this episode, pretty sure GRRM is going the same way given how he has set the story up.

@@MothproofKT The best we can do is use the information given to us. We saw Bran's eyes turn white followed by a shot of ravens flying through the battle suggesting that he had warged into them. We never say Arya's eyes turn white and we saw her leave a room on her own free will. There is just no evidence to suggest that Bran warged into Arya.

Aesthetically was a beautiful episode that set the right mood and really showed the dire odds they were against. Plot wise, thought it was a little on the anticlimactic side. Cersei as the final villain just doesn't sit right against the Night King. Also felt a bit like Deus Ex Machina or more like Deus Ex Arya at the end. But we still have three more log episodes left so I'm still hoping for a worthy conclusion.
