Jaime knights Brienne with Widow's Wail, while she has Oathkeeper with her. It's the symbolic coming together of the Two Swords Tywin re-forged from Ned Stark's sword Ice. Where else but in Winterfell. With the knighting it's like Ice is whole once again. That was a nice touch, dare I say. The first time Jaime saw Brienne was as a prisoner, during that heated "Kingslayer? What a King he was!" back and forth with Catelyn which revolved around questions of forsaken vows, honor and knighthood. Now that conversation is complete.

With all the nods and callbacks this episode is basically a hour long homage to the throwback moments of the show. It's like a farewell tour. I vaguely remembered it for being slow, but on rewatches I've grown fond of this episode for the way it builds up anticipation and gets me sad and nostalgic for the incredible journey we've had. It tugged the heartstrings much better than what I initially remembered. Pod's Jenny of Oldstones sets the mood for The Night Before Winter.

The title, "A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms" is an homage to some *REALLY* cool Westeros History and Lore, *AND* Brienne's own family history, which was not told in the H&L specials.
Brienne is a descendant of one of the most noble knights of the Seven Kingdoms, Ser Duncan the Tall. As far as we know, Ser Duncan was never actually knighted yet went on to become Lord Commander of the King's Guard for King Aegon Targaryen Fifth of his Name.
In George R.R. Martin's short stories, "The Tales Of Dunk And Egg" Dunk is a travelling Hedge Knight who wanders Westeros with his loyal squire "Egg", who's true secret identity, Prince Aegon Targaryen, is known only to Dunk, Egg, and Egg's father, Prince Maekar Targaryen.
Through a series of unfortunate events, young squire Aegon, who was never actually in line for the Iron Throne, becomes King Aegon Targaryen Fifth of his Name when Egg's older brother, Aemon, turned down the throne due to his oath a Maester of the Citadel assigned to the Night's Watch.
Brienne and Pod's relationship is a direct reflection of Dunk and Egg's relationship.
The title, "A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms," is also the working title of the live action adaptation of "The Tales Of Dunk And Egg," currently in production by HBO.
On a side note, one of the first things the young King Aegon did was to sentence a man named Lord Brynden Rivers to the Wall. Brynden was the bastard son of King Aegon the Fourth and served as Master of Whisperers and Hand of the King to two previous kings. Bloodraven had broken an oath of protection and beheaded the man that protection had been sworn to.
LORD Bloodraven traveled to the Wall with Aemon; they were close, as Bloodraven was Aemon's great uncle. Lord Bloodraven served several years as lead ranger, then Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, before being lost beyond the Wall roughly 75 years before being found in a cave by Brandon Stark, Jojen and Mira Reed, and a gentle giant called Hodor, who, btw, was also a direct descendant of Ser Duncan the Tall. Thats where Hodoe and Brienne both inherit their size.
    Namaste 🙏

    Okay, few things:
The only people in the throne room when Jamie killed the Mad King were the two of them plus a pyromancer who Jamie also killed. The only people who know that Jamie did it to save the people of King's Landing from death-by-wildfire are Jamie and Brienne, because he told her. Everybody else assumes it was part of his father's deceitful plan to take King's Landing by pretending to be there in support of the king until he opened the gates and then sacking the place.
The Arya & Gendry thing didn't come out of nowhere. Way back when they were at Harrenhall, there was a scene where she was eyeing him up as he worked topless at the smithy. She was way too young to do anything about it and maybe didn't even understand what she was feeling, but it was there.

When Jaime asked Bran why he didn't tell them about the tower window, I'm pretty sure he meant right there in the hall, this episode (as opposed to years ago). The "things I do for love" line made it clear that Bran was now aware, and yet he didn't pile on when Dany and Sansa were listing his offenses against them. Nobody but Jaime could possibly know what that line meant. It signaled to Jaime that he was keeping the secret intentionally, and Jaime was asking him why he would do that.

The one-on-one between Daenerys and Sansa (and the arrival of Theon). Pod's song (Jenny of Oldstones). Arya & Gendry. Jorah & Lyanna. Jaime & Bran. It's not (at least - not only) that Jon is a male air, he is just first in succession line - oldest living child of oldest son of king. In case Robert's rebellion would not had place or was unsuccessful - Rhaegar would be king after Aerys (the mad king), and his child after him (probably one of the children he had with Elia Martel, not Jon, but still), in that case too - neither Deanerys nor Viserys would have claim to the throne regardless of their gender.

Dany and Jaime coming face to face reminded me of that beautiful description of Westeros, or rather Rhaesh Andhal in the Dothraki tongue, as Dany would imagine it in exile. It ends with a thought about Jaime :
*Somewhere beyond the sunset, across the narrow sea, lay a land of green hills and flowered plains and great rushing rivers, where towers of dark stone rose amidst magnificent blue-grey mountains, and armored knights rode to battle beneath the banners of their lords. The Dothraki called that land Rhaesh Andahli, the land of the Andals. In the Free Cities, they talked of Westeros and the Sunset Kingdoms. Her brother had a simpler name. “Our land,” he called it. The words were like a prayer with him. If he said them enough, the gods were sure to hear. “Ours by blood right, taken from us by treachery, but ours still, ours forever. You do not steal from the dragon, oh, no. The dragon remembers.” And perhaps the dragon did remember, but Dany could not. She had never seen this land her brother said was theirs, this realm beyond the narrow sea. These places he talked of, Casterly Rock and the Eyrie, Highgarden and the Vale of Arryn, Dorne and the Isle of Faces, they were just words to her. Viserys had been a boy of eight when they fled King’s Landing to escape the advancing armies of the Usurper, but Daenerys had been only a quickening in their mother’s womb. Yet sometimes Dany would picture the way it had been, so often had her brother told her the stories. The midnight flight to Dragonstone, moonlight shimmering on the ship’s black sails. Her brother Rhaegar battling the Usurper in the bloody waters of the Trident and dying for the woman he loved. The sack of King’s Landing by the ones Viserys called the Usurper’s dogs, the lords Lannister and Stark. Princess Elia of Dorne pleading for mercy as Rhaegar’s heir was ripped from her breast and murdered before her eyes. The polished skulls of the last dragons staring down sightlessly from the walls of the throne room while the Kingslayer opened Father’s throat with a golden sword.*

      @chancefurlong372 Год назад

In honor of Dany and Jaime finally coming face to face, an excerpt on how the Kingsguard who killed his father seemed in Dany's imagination during exile :
*Every khal had his bloodriders. At first Dany had thought of them as a kind of Dothraki Kingsguard, sworn to protect their lord, but it went further than that. Jhiqui had taught her that a bloodrider was more than a guard; they were the khal’s brothers, his shadows, his fiercest friends. “Blood of my blood,” Drogo called them, and so it was; they shared a single life. The ancient traditions of the horselords demanded that when the khal died, his bloodriders died with him, to ride at his side in the night lands. If the khal died at the hands of some enemy, they lived only long enough to avenge him, and then followed him joyfully into the grave. In some khalasars, Jhiqui said, the bloodriders shared the khal’s wine, his tent, and even his wives, though never his horses. A man’s mount was his own. Daenerys was glad that Khal Drogo did not hold to those ancient ways. She should not have liked being shared. And while old Cohollo treated her kindly enough, the others frightened her; Haggo, huge and silent, often glowered as if he had forgotten who she was, and Qotho had cruel eyes and quick hands that liked to hurt. He left bruises on Doreah’s soft white skin whenever he touched her, and sometimes made Irri sob in the night. Even his horses seemed to fear him. Yet they were bound to Drogo for life and death, so Daenerys had no choice but to accept them. And sometimes she found herself wishing her father had been protected by such men. In the songs, the white knights of the Kingsguard were ever noble, valiant, and true, and yet King Aerys had been murdered by one of them, the handsome boy they now called the Kingslayer, and a second, Ser Barristan the Bold, had gone over to the Usurper. She wondered if all men were as false in the Seven Kingdoms. When her son sat the Iron Throne, she would see that he had bloodriders of his own to protect him against treachery in his Kingsguard.*

Dany's chat with Sansa was a good one. After Sansa says that men in love are easily manipulated, we see Dany trying to manipulate Sansa. She says that she's fighting Jon's war, but that's a lie. Dany stands to lose more than Jon if the Night King succeeds. She will lose her whole kingdom -- just as Jon explained to her on their first meeting. Dany is also omitting the fact that the key reason she decided to fight for the North was to avenge the death of Viseryon. So Dany's line about, "Tell me who manipulated who" is rather ironic and very telling.

That heart warming moment when Theon goes to embrace our Lady of Winterfell, Dany in the background looking envious af. Well she gotta realize you can't build those connections by fear and intimidation. The Dragon Queen ain't got no support system like that lol. Ok not gonna lie. I usually hate on Emilia but the range she manages to capture in her facial expressions during the Jon reveal scene is nothing short of incredible. If you zone in on her face all through that scene it's another one of those beautiful close up shots of an actor giving it all they've got. Sometimes I just gotta savor moments like that with my theater kid glasses on cause that was a masterclass in acting. Credit's where credit's due.

The sad thing about Tyrion and his poor judgment is that people talk about him as though he's a real person who made real decisions.
But he's not. He's a fictional character. One person wrote him as a great character. A couple of bored idiots made a deliberate choice to make him a character who makes bad decisions. Just one of their bad choices. There's another one next episode, when they thought they'd be so clever and insert a twist entirely devoid of logic or evidence from text.
On a more positive note, the look of incomprehension on Dany's face when Sansa rushes forward to embrace Theon is a great thing, whether it was in the writing or a choice of Emilia/David Nutter. For all that she's just said, she doesn't really understand.

My thought on the change in Tyrion. After so many times watching, I never thought of this until you just spoke about it in your intro. I wonder, if being away from Kings Landingb & all the corruption from nearly ever turn, plus his disposal easily to hundreds of books, if his brain really isn't the same. Like fight or flight mode has disappeared. Recall he said "a mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone: & when they were preparing Winterfell in episode 1/1, they said a lot of candles, he reads all night". He was bored to fake laughter with the joke telling with Grey worm & missandei. Make sense to me. If so. Hope he finds a book soon.

Bran did have amnesia about the fall/push incident, but would definitely have known all the details through his Three Eyed Raven powers. His point was that if he were to disclose that now that he remembered it, they would have executed Jaime for the crime, and he had more value as a soldier for the living than as a revenge killing.

He doesn't have the first claim to the throne because he is a male. He has The Claim because he is rhaegar's son. The line of succesion goes; ruler, eldest child of ruler (in this case Rhaegar) , eldest grandchild of ruler. So its Aerys - Rhaegar - Jon. Danarys is Rhaegar's sister and thus not in direct line to the throne. Now, had there been no children of Rhaegar or siblings older than her ( as we all have thought until now) THEN she would have been first in line. Just like Visarys was before he died. She was second in line when he was alive (again, had there been no Jon).
So, Jon is absolutely the rightful heir, the rightful king. If the Tagaryans were in power, Which they aren't. She has no birthright to the throne and she has yet to be crowned Queen. So, yeah, she is lost at this point.

The reason that Tyrian's not the Tyrian "of old," is because George Martin hasn't been writing the stories that Game of Thrones is using. Once the TV show ran out of the GoT books written by Martin, the quality of the story telling has fallen off, since the TV show "show-runners" have been in charge of the story. Before that, it was a collaboration, where some things in the books were changed, but the main story lines came from Martin.

Funny thing, even if somebody would believe that Jon is the rightful son of Rhaegar (because nobody in their right mind would believe that Bran really sees that past and it pissed me off that in this show everybody just accepts this), he still wouldn't be rightful heir. After Rhaegar's death, Aerys the Mad King disinherited Rhaegar's children and named Viserys his heir and the Prince of the Dragonstone.
Jamie was a sworn Kingsguard, he took a holy vow to protect the king. He should have been either killed or sent to the Wall for what he had done, but Robert didn't care about it because of his hatred of Targaryens. So even though Aerys was an evil man, Daenerys (and most other people) still despises Jamie.
Also here's why Daenerys shouldn't agree on North becoming independant: because if she would, suddenly Dorne and Iron Islands, kingdoms with even greater history of being independant from the Iron Throne, would immediately ask to for it too. This would lead to civil war or breaking apart of Seven Kingdoms, reducing it to separete kingdoms that would constantly war against each other like they had before the Conquest (there hadn't been a year without a war somewhere in Westeros before Aegon united the realm).
