  • Vintage diesel locomotives 4501, B61, GM22 and GM27 are seen hauling loaded SSR ballast train 9240 from Bombo quarry on the NSW South Coast, to Thirlmere for maintenance work along the Loop Line.
This video shows the train departing Bombo quarry in the morning. It is then seen passing through Bulli, followed by Shiels Hill later in the day. The final shot sees the train climbing the steep grade at Redbank in full noise on the final stretch to Thirlmere.
    Filmed on 20/7/2023.

Great video, that certainly would have been a rare run. Very nice to see the 45 leading it too.

Great to see a 45 class leading, also some memories there, I used to surf Bombo in my younger days. There are still some 45 class ALCo variants running overseas, Indian Railways has a few survivors. You clocked some kms chasing that train, much appreciated.😉

It would be good if they opened the line right through to Mittagong!!

At least SSR don't underpower their trains and maybe they could have used 6029 on the branch? Is this the first B class to visit Thirlmere? BTW Nice video.
