@dualshooter2461 I hadn't played any other Kojima games since MGS way back on the PS, so I didn't have any expectations going in. I just knew it looked weird, and that was intriguing. I actually didn't finish it when it first came out. It wasn't until the release of the director's cut on PS5 that I went back. Had such a great time that I platinumed the bastard! I hike a lot irl. I've been on the Apalachian Trail a few times. Always wanted to hike Iceland (thanks, Kojima). Something about the carefulness of watching every step and balancing Sam's pack is just kinda cathartic to me. Then the upgrades, like the speed skeleton and the hover carts. Never leave home without one. Other favorite games are BotW/TotK, Stardew Valley, Pikmin, Bloodborne (really any souls/souls-like, Miyazaki is a real sonofabitch), Kingdom Two Crowns, Blasphemous. Lots of Roguelikes and Metroidvanias. This is kinda long-winded, but, yeah. Something about DS just hits the right spots for me. I'm super excited for DS2! It's totally fine that the game isn't for everyone. I appreciate that you gave it a shot and didn't just shit all over it like a lot of people who never even gave it a chance.
Basically if you watch gameplay and thinks it looks interesting you'll probably love it. If you think it looks boring, you'll probably hate it. It's pretty much exactly what it looks like. I personally loved it.
It seems a lot of people expected something different when playing, but I think that is a good way to put it. I've heard many people that enjoyed it say you have to play it to understand it, however. Glad you loved it. You expect death stranding 2 to be very similar? Or have more action? I will give it a shot regardless.
Its the other way around for me, i watched the gameplay and thought it was boring. Then after few months I decided to play it in my free time. I didn't expect that delivering packages, travelling rigorous roads, building infrastructures that helps me and other players would be so fun to play
How do you feel about watching gameplay? How does it look to you? I tell people what you see is kinda what you get gameplay wise. It doesn’t change it up that much to be honest.
@dualshooter2461 it's a lot of walking. i like games with some action, and this doesn't seem to have any. maybe I'll get it when the holidays come around. that's usually when I want something really tame to play
Im 150 hours and still going, once you end yhe game its the perfect chill and watch tv game. Cobat its actually really good imo, long press triangle to drop your cargo and things will be a lot better.
masterpiece is a far fetch.... easily i can think of 2 dozen games that are underrated and are nearly masterpieces in their own regard... going to leave out ps2/xbox era/ or early 2000 pc games? Sure masterpiece in the past decade considering how low our standards been reduced too. fortnite, minecraft, cyberpunk, squad, hades, diablo, cod. basic games that everyone praises.... on steam its labeled as a walking simulator.... that itself is worse than arma already
playing for 48 hours across 2 months playtime, I personally love it, yeah it's kinda boring as a walking simulator, but one particular thing that I love this game is the Social Interaction with other players, you help other players and you are being helped by other players too. I've built lots of road just to ease my traveling with bike, but to help other players too, that kind of things make this game is my top personal favorite
I have heard quite a few people say this game is one of their faves, or their favorite game ever. I think that concept you mentioned, about helping each is the coolest aspect. I will still give death stranding 2 a shot. Looks visually incredible.
I played it on PS4 during the fkin fk that we all know and I was in love with the game despite of all the complaints, i didn't finished it though, now I have it on PC by Epic gift and will buy the editor's cut to check it and hopefully finish it 😅🤣😂
I've gotten about 2hrs last night and so far it is a walking sim, HOWEVER, its a walking sim that you have to pay attention to *how* you're walking. I'm sure more mechanics will open up but its core gameplay is so gamey, like a test of skill. Its so refreshing to me as I've been on a jrpg kick this year. The story so far is batsh*t crazy, even for Kojima standards. Hopefully the game will have a database for terms, lore and characters.
In death stranding it’s mostly motion cap, so it’s the actual actors performing themselves and lending their voices too. Hideo Kojima is obsessive about the film aspects in his games. This guy loves movies.
I will give this a try and as I have nothing against a slow game with a lot of walking components maybe this is the one for me :). I will begin a first play-through this week so time will tell.
This game is completely boring... WHEN I was watching others stream it and based on reviews I've seen. I was so disappointed being a fan of Kojima since MGS1 Then I had a PS5 and subbed to PS Plus to try it out. I liked it. Like A LOT. Ironically, it was the game that I had no intention of playing but all the other PS4 games I wanted to buy like Uncharted 4 and Ghost Of Tsushima kinda bored me. It felt too familiar and samey. But this. This was actual "playing" for me. I get to build things, go around and help people, steal vehicles, and even if not the main focus, fight enemies and otherwordly creatures. This was a great new experience for me. And my faith in Kojima returned. Game really isn't for everyone, but spoke to me strongly.
Haha this game definitely rewards those that can coordinate and organize. I always want to hit every delivery possible so it was frustrating when I couldn’t get it done lol
Not the game for me thats for sure, these days I need engaging gameplay and I find too many cutscenes bore me quickly which is strange because I love movies. Props to you for grinding through a game you didnt necessarily enjoy.
Guillermo de Toro is who I was talking about, but in turns its just his likeness that is used for the character Deadman. Guillermo Del Toro does not actually voice the character that looks like him lol. Benecio Del Toro isn't in this game. Amazing actor though. Just saw Sicario again a few weeks ago.

I disagree! There are unique concepts in this game, but I do agree it just wasn’t much fun…for long!!! There are people who absolutely love this game. Just goes to show how people value and perceive different concepts. I think that’s pretty cool 😎

@@thestupidnation3911 I recently picked up Death Stranding last week in the Steam Summer sale. Never played MGS or any other Kojima game. I definitely cannot be considered a "Kojima fan boy" This game is literally one of the best games I have EVER played, and I've been a huge gamer for over 30 years. You come across as just a contrarian who's opinion is based solely on going against whatever is popular. The sci-fi concepts of this game are next level. It's something that will stick with me as one of my favorite worldbuilding in any piece of media. It is such a unique and creative world that blends science with supernatural in a way that I've never seen before, and does so in a way that really stands out as genius. It's so cool. When was the last time we've had a true science fiction world created that was original and not heavily inspired by pre-existing sci-fi? This game's world is very original and will stand the test of time. According to interviews I've seen, Kojima stated that the central design of the game was to unite the gaming community rather than have us be at odds with each other. It rewards kindness towards strangers, rather than violence or competition. Everyone, and you are a prime example of this, is so negative towards each other in the gaming community these days. Many games are designed around the principles of competing with other people, enacting violence upon them, or otherwise rewarding negative interactions where someone ruins someone else's fun. This game was designed around bringing people together, being helpful towards strangers, and uniting gamers through mechanics that make the arduousness of the environment less difficult for one another. And this is a lesson clearly lost on you. Look at what you're complaining about: not enough violence, not enough action, not challenging enough. Yet here you are, being negative towards people with different opinions than you, putting down not just Kojima but fans of this game, claiming the game has nothing unique (it's literally the single most unique game that has released in years, name another game that has similar concepts that wasn't directly inspired by Death Stranding). "I think Kojima is overrated" you stated, and every word you speak oozes this idea that your opinion should shape how others view his work. The way you wrote your comments are declarative, and with a matter-of-fact tone, as though your opinion is fact. You continue to shape this idea that you view your opinion as the only correct one by putting down others with different opinions. See how negative the very premise of you making your comment is? That was the very thing Kojima made this game to push back on. You are the type of person he most wanted to help reconnect with the good aspects of gaming: strangers helping strangers reach similar goals and making each other's lives better. The game is about altruism. It's about shared experiences, and sharing our burdens with others. It's about peace. And you're upset that it lacks war. You missed the ENTIRE point, so it's no wonder that your opinion on the game is so poor.
DAMN. Tell us how you really feel!! In all seriousness, I get it. This game is such an enigma to me. Either you LOVE IT or it was not for you. No in between.
One of my all-time favorite games. Just hearing that opening Low Roar song makes me want to play again.

There are additional mechanics, but I would say the early game will pretty much sum it up. It doesn’t change as much as I would have liked.
im torn a little between just hearing an actors voice on a generated protagonist vs seeing them and hearing them like a movie
