    Great video. It helped me know where to look and then plan my install.
    After watching this, and then looking under my truck, I chose to run my wires a little different.
    I started in the cab and removed the plug you mention, but choose the passenger side. I then walked out the wire/loom to get a general idea of how much I needed to make it to the back. Once I had an estimate, I marked the loom with some electrical tape. I cut a small X in the center of the plug, then placed a stepper bit up against the wire loom and marked the depth I needed with tape.
    The drill made quick work of the hole, and I slid the end that connects to the camera and backup wires through the plug (make sure you run it from the "inside" side of the plug first). That was easy, but getting the loom through the hole was slightly more challenging. A little electrical tape over the end of the loom, and a pair of needle nose pliers on either side, to open the hole in the plug slightly, was all it took to get the loom started. From there, I slide the plug up to the tape I put on the loom earlier. After that, I fed the wires/loom through the passenger side floor until I got to the plug. I popped the plug in place, crawled until the truck, and began running everything towards the back. I loosely zip tied the loom to the existing wire looms and made sure I stayed away from the exhaust. Once I was at the back, I ran a fish through the tailgate , connected the plug end onto the fish, and pulled it into the tailgate (the harness on the camera wasn't long enough to go all the way through the taillight). Next was tapping into the backup light, which I did on the passenger side. Since I'm not a fan of wire taps (sorry, electrical engineering background), so I soldered my connections and then insulated and tapped up the connections. At this point, I went back and took out excess slack (which I didn't have much of) in the wires and loom, working from the back to front, and snugging up the zip ties (but not enough to crush/pinch the loom).
    In the cab, since I have the center console, I ran the wire under the there. My next step will be to install the new radio and plug the backup camera into it.

    Wow thanks. I also saw your videos on the updated 10 inch touch screen stero. Wish I had your DIY skill but I definitely want to upgrade my 2010 Sequoia with this.

    Thank you for making this video. It gave me the confidence to self-install. Where did you attach your ground in the back? Do you connect it to the ground wire going to the light (black and white wired)? Also, should I be pulling 12 volts from the line? Did you connect the ground wire going to the stereo? or just leave it unconnected. I have a 07 Tundra with bench seats and I used the other wiring harness which worked great

      Thank you! Sorry, I missed the grounding part in the video. I wish I would have filmed this while installing. Trying to retrace my steps I was bound to miss something. I grounded the black wire to the frame near the tail light.

    Hey thanks for the video. I already have an existing bsck up camera, but the picture quality kinda sucks. I was hoping to replace just the camera. Will I be able to skip the steps of running the wire through the truck and just be able to connect at the rear wheel, or do I have to do the whole process?

    • @Paulinaandjosh
      @Paulinaandjosh  3 месяца назад

      It’s going to depend on the connections on your current back up camera. A lot of these back up cameras have the same connections, if they are the same you won’t have to run new wires.

    I already have a tailgate hatch with a camera on my 2011 Tundra. I am replacing it because the handle broke. Will I need to follow those steps with the wire, or will those already be in place on the old latch before I remove it?

    • @Paulinaandjosh
      @Paulinaandjosh  7 месяцев назад +1

      Trace back the wire on your current camera and see if it has the same connections. It is possible that you could tie into the existing wiring.

    I am trying to hook this is to my 2010 Tundra. It has a black, red, and purple toward the end of the line towards the tailgate. I hooked up to the red to the taillight (red/blue) and the black wire also to the taillight. (Black wire) When I’m bringing it to the radio there is the yellow video aux cable and the same colors. Red black and purple. What does the black connect to? What does the red connect to? I didn’t connect the purple to anything.. thanks for the support.

    • @amyers442
      @amyers442 Месяц назад +1

      Typically you only have to connect the wires on 1 end of the run. So if you connected the wires at the back you don't need to connect them to the head unit other than the yellow one. The purple is likely not needed

    So, does the 4:00 min mark of your son jumping in the camera represent the clarity of the new reverse camera? Or, is that still the old camera view?

  • @adamharris2674
    @adamharris2674 Год назад +1

    So with how you wired it, the camera Automatically comes on when you put it in reverse correct? then obviously goes off automatically when you take it out of reverse.

    • @Paulinaandjosh
      @Paulinaandjosh  7 месяцев назад +1

      Make sure there is power to the line you connected to. If your taillights don’t work it may be a fuse. The yellow A/V cable could be in the wrong spot where it connects to the head unit. Try each connection.

      @@Paulinaandjosh I have a master tailgate handle, I have a red for 12v power and black for ground and another wire a green wire labels as “trigger” wire I hole up the red and black and left the green out but when I put it in reverse my the screen doesn’t do anything

    • @Paulinaandjosh
      @Paulinaandjosh  Год назад +1

      I’m not familiar with the master tailgate handle but the trigger wire has to be installed. That’s what tells the truck it is in reverse. There should be a back up camera wire on the back of your head unit to connect it to. Also double check the RCA cable some head units have a dedicated RCA cable for the back up camera and a “video in” cable.

      Dasaita is 100% the way to go. I absolutely love mine. There are a lot of junk android units on the market so it is really important to research the company before buying. I’ve installed a lot of these and so far Dasaita has been the best.
