Watch a full tutorial as a 2007 Chevy Silverado will have a brand new tailgate handle mounted backup camera installed to an aftermarket radio. We will be using the Ecoconut Safe Driving camera kit and integrate it to an existing aftermarket radio.
This video applies to GM Trucks such as Sierra and Silverado models or years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. This video tailgate handle disassembly, camera wiring, and installation.

While installing the back up camera in the tailgate, it's a perfect time if you don't have one already is to install a tailgate lock
The kits need to have a disconnect at the tailgate. While rare it's a removable item. With no plug a simple task turns into a PIA.
Which camera location is better license plate or tailgate handle ?
Does the radio have an input for both rear camera and a front camera?
Is it ok to tap the ground to the cigarette lighters ground??
How do you turn off the back up lines to the camera and use the ones on the stereo?

Is it possible to flip the image on the camera if a car is coming up from the passenger side of the truck it shows on the left side of the screen which is kind of annoying also when I back into a parking spot and the back of my truck moves opposite of the screen
I have a question. I want to use the purple wire to run to my reverse light, do i have run a wire back my reverse light being the purple wire is so short, or try and find the reverse wire in the lume?

The guy with the truck b4 me used this harness but didn’t have any of those 3 wires red blk purple connected. So how did he use power?? I dropped the tailgate n now it says check connection on the deck but where is cld he draw power from??

I'm trying to figure out my eBay special that looks like your camera but it only came with red and black wiring through the tailgate. And only red at the head unit. Aka in my book as the pioneer! So do I have to ground my camera up under the bed and rear frame? Or do I leave it taped off under there and only connect the camera red wire in the dash to ignition on wire?
My 2010 has a center hole for the lock and i cannot find a replacement, not sure if there is a way to move it.

I bought this and I never paid attention, but my truck has a center lock on it. I can't find any bezel cameras or replacement bezels with a center lock. Very frustrating.
I tried to install this same camera and I got a black and green screen?
I decided to tap into the 12v adapter power underneath the air controls and using the RCA connector

Hi I have a question my camera wiring on one end has the plug for the camera but has two wires a black and a red. and the other side that connects to the radio has only the yellow rca with a red cable only that connects to the brown rca port my question is I don’t have a smart harness. Do I connect on the radio the red to the violet white cable that is the reverse trigger wire or to the red that powers the radio, and on the tailgate do I connect the red and black to the reverse light or how do I connect it I’m lost thanks in advance I wish I could upload picture for you to see it

@@corncobbbhunting7082 I ended up figuring it out. The radio unit I was hooking it to has multiple options for input (cable,screen,camera) and I had to set them all to NTSC or something of that nature
@@Roadking013 So you just had to change some settings on the radio itself?
@@corncobbbhunting7082 for me, yes. I did have to follow the wiring set up for a different camera style but same harness for my particular radio to figure out where to tap the purple wire into as well
Hello -- it has been a year! Are you still happy with the backup camera? Trying to get past the 1 star negatives on Amazon is what keeps me from buying one of these tailgate camera kits... The Ecoconut* Tailgate Camera Kit has a 71% positive and a 7% 1-star rating on Amazon with a lot of camera failures? Plus the camera is "riveted" onto the bezel so zero adjustment can be made? Lastly is there any chance that the factory wiring hraness is already in place but hidden away over on the driver's side junction box next to the spare tire? I have a 2012 LT extended cab with most all of the options including the "park-assist" sensors in the rear bumper... I am going to dig and see if there is a connector there for the camera harness.

Does your radio have aux?
Do you make one without the lock in the tailgate?
We don't (we don't manufacture the camera), but they do. Most kits come with the hole already in it for a key, but some include a plug for it like this one: amzn.to/453vM4n
I have a 2012 Silverado LTZ . I have a Eonon radio and it automatically goes into reverse mode when I put my truck in reverse. Will I need to hook up any power wires or should I be able to just plug up the rca plug? My truck does have park assist sensors in the bumper but no back up cam.
You still have to power the camera like we did in the video. Our radio also has a smart harness where it cycles the radio to reverse when backing up. So no trigger needed, just power the camera either off of accessory or the reverse light power and ground wire.

Hey thanks. Unfortunately, the camera manufacture doesn't allow for any adjustment.

Just installed this camera, is there a away to adjust the camera angle or repossession the lines upwards
I don’t think so. I have the same and would like to see my ball for trailer lining up
You can open the tailgate and wrap the your tailgate cable on the latch and it will hold it in the right position where you can see the ball on your truck

This was also a crew cab, so yes.
Damn I just realized my tailgate has no lock on it.
We've used this same kit with a non-keyed tailgate bezel, and just add crafted an ABS plastic blank to fill the empty hole.
Will this work with the stock 2009 denali screen?
Did you ever figure out if it works with that screen?

Way too much generalizing on routing the wire up through the dash into the radio compartment. That is ridiculous. WHAT CHANNEL IS USED TO GET THE WIRE INTO THE RADIO COMPARTMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you get a no-video signal, that indicates you are not getting power to the camera, or there is an issue with the video cable input. Check your connections, check to see how the camera is getting power, etc.
Installed a backup camera to my pioneer dmh-1500nex. Camera works when I hit the button but not when I put it in reverse. Have the same smart harness. Any ideas why this would be happening? I have the ground and power hooked up to the cigarette lighter
