- I found a Stardew Valley Mod that goes through and fixes Shane. This mod adds 10 new heart events to Shane and expands on his character, background and storyline to make it bigger and better!

confuses me when ppl get mad that folks gift him beer in the early game. realistically w/someone like shane, you'll bond with him over a couple of beers before realizing he's got problems. he's functional, talks normally, gets to work on time. i see early-relationship drinking with shane as no different than making any other friend at the pub. only later do you realize what's up and go ayo how about we discuss chickens and i grab you a pizza

I just wish he stopped accepting it after getting help in the base game. It'd be reasonable for it to become a hated gift as it's like you're trying sabotage his recovery at that point.

@@sourgreendolly7685 One of the mods I have for Shane fixes that. He'll deny the beer after a certain amount of hearts and call you an asshole lol.

I feel like all the NPCs could benefit from deeper stories like this. The reason I love base game Shane to begin with is because his story is so much more real (and frankly more adult) compared to the other bachelors/bachelorettes. Alex’s is a close second, but I feel like his heavily relies on the MC being a male to really enjoy it properly
Yeah ive never played as a male farmer so until i watched videos i literally never knew that Alex stopped being a shitty person only if you’re a guy. It’s kinda crazy how different the storyline is.

Shane was the first bachelor I ever married and I'm telling you that I was not prepared for the emotional rollercoaster his base game story was. I never thought I would ever actually experience that amount of distrust, frustration, and worry for a fictional character. After you get married to him he literally is all like "I'm quitting drinking" and then proceeds to go stand down by the river with an unlabeled can of who knows what and when you interact with him he says "Don't worry, it's just Joja Cola."
They did his character so well that I actually felt what I imagine it would be like to actually be in a relationship with someone like him.

@@Imserious184 It is on purpose, that's why I say they did his character so well. I think Shane is the most real of the bachelors when it comes to his base game story, but I think it might've genuinely traumatized me

@@Mellaya_Creations To be fair, it actually is pretty well known that Shane is based off a friend of ConcernedApe's that went through similar experiences of struggling with depression and alcoholism. Getting a first-hand account really helps bring his character to life. It's why I love Shane. It's proper representation of someone struggling, but also of someone finding the light and being able to break the self-abusive cycle.
With the exception of the children, Penny, and Sebastian, ALL of the NPCs like alcoholic drinks of all types basically, so I let it slide that Shane continues to have some interest in drinking because everyone is like that(which therefore makes him have constant influence to drink😅)
it's realistic to me as/having known people trying to recover from alcoholism too. it's really difficult to avoid triggers when the only available social space in town is literally a bar. where else do i hang out? the grocery store? the gas station? with a lack of third places it is even harder to genuinely break the habit than it is in those rare places that do have a nonalcoholic choice after 5pm. like i'd spend all my time at the library but that thing closes!!! additional realism in stardew is all the arcade machines are at bars.
i like to think that he limits himself more than he used to and tries way harder but is just still on his way in a place with very few options.

Also, not everyone quits completely. Some alcoholics learn to live in moderation, which is what I think Shane has done

my ex and I were playing stardew a while back and she chose Shane because it was super easy to give him beer, and then she hit that rock bottom event and was like "oh no WHAT HAVE I DONE"
faux betterhelp transition was HILARIOUS. i feel like multiple residents of pelican town have left negative reviews for their experiences on betterhelp. and harvey is desperately trying to do an anti-betterhelp campaign.
the ideal outcome is that harvey and sebastian work together to create what betterhelp is actually advertised to be and then everyone gets access to like a platinum list of affordable/semi-affordable therapists working out of zuzu city that harvey contacts and recruits through those weird doctor conferences therapists all do presentation week at
Shane is my favorite, but yes, the way he works in the game could be improved, at least his room could be cleaner or let us put something to cover the floor😅his story too actually but this applies to all the other characters as well, I would like more scenes for them.
Same every time I start a new game I always end up with him. I like that he still has bad days after marriage. Depression doesn't go away immediately. And I don't expect CA to add a change after 'X' amount of time. I do hate the dirty room.
i think the room should be changed to be almost the same but without the filthy footprints and spilt cans and instead it's just mad clutter. knowing/being in a situation like shane's, you're not gonna have the energy to do everything and you're gonna backslide some days. i like that about him. but i think his room would be more realistic if there weren't spilt drinks everywhere and dirt. it says "rock bottom" when it should say "still a mess but doing better, i may not be organized but i know where the paper towels and cleaning spray are"

When he's at the saloon, he's not drinking but playing that video game but when you get home and click on him he'll say things that imply he is still drinking. Idk maybe he's just saying that to scare you??

I personally believe that jas is affected deeply by shanes addiction, even if she doesnt really know what the actaul problem is. plus, her dad and her mother, are dead, so i believe shane is really the only father figure in her life, and that father figure is struggling deeply. and jas sees that. and it hurts her. so she takes comfort in penny, who i believe, is like a mother figure in her life. i think thats why she loves being at the library and at the teaching sessions so much
yeah, kids are far more perceptive than people give them credit for. i know it isnt really shanes fault, but i feel bad for her. theres no way all that doesnt affect her.

Okay, just checked, it was Nelsan Ellis, who played Lafayette on True Blood. He suffered from heart failure after trying to get clean, a blood infection exacerbated his condition, his kidneys shut down, and after four days in the hospital he was gone. (Back in 2017! That was longer ago than I thought.) So, please, if anyone who reads this is trying to get clean, don't go it alone, it's better to get help before it's too late.
Actually... there's an idea. Instead of Shane ending up in hospital from a relapse, he could end up from going cold turkey without proper supervision/precautions. Be a but ironic.

My Alateen friend admitted to me that she chose Shane. I’ve been thinking about it, like “why would you choose an alcoholic who threatens to kill himse-“ then I realized I don’t like Shane because he reminds me of my dad. My father has been sober for over two decades but has threatened suicide to or in front of all his children, including me (he found out I was cutting myself again), the reason I hate Shane, is because he reminds me of my father.

I wish us console players had mods like Skyrim on ps5 does and fallout mainly I’d hope for them to stay free but maybe in the near future it will happen because here’s why I think that he’s not going to always update stardew he’s working on a new game so why not allow us to use mods to fix and or add new assets into our game the only way that would happen probably if Microsoft bought Sony or Sony allowed it Minecraft now has addons which is the equivalent to mods so it could happen Sonys changing for the better maybe on their outlook on mods
