    Toyota’s 2017 Yaris iA sedan is basically a re-badged Mazda 2 subcompact that’s entirely different from the Yaris hatchback. It’s small and inexpensive, but Chris Wardlaw calls it the best subcompact sedan out there, complementing its engine, ride, and handling and giving it a perfect 10 for cost effectiveness. It doesn’t even attempt to hide its Mazda roots, but that’s fine given what a strong job Mazda does, particularly with interior look and feel.
    The Yaris iA uses a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder that produces 106 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque, paired with a standard 6-speed manual or an optional 6-speed automatic. With the automatic, it gets 35 mpg combined; the manual drops that number to 34. The Yaris iA has lively handling, but its modest power makes highway on-ramps and passing on two-lane roads a little challenging. Technology is Yaris iA’s weakness, unfortunately, since it does not offer a navigation system, satellite radio, or support for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

    The 2017 Toyota Yaris iA is a tiny and inexpensive little sedan that will surprise you by how refined, responsive, and remarkably good it is.
    Cutting to the chase, I like the Toyota Yaris iA. However, it is important to make a critical distinction between the Yaris iA and a standard Toyota Yaris hatchback.
    The iA sedan was originally a Scion. When Toyota cancelled that youth-oriented brand after the 2016 model year, it folded the iA sedan into the existing Yaris lineup of 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks, which have nothing in common with the iA sedan aside from a nameplate.
    While the Yaris hatchbacks offer tempting levels of utility, the Yaris iA sedan is the one you want if you’re shopping for a small and affordable Toyota. That’s because aside from Toyota emblems and a questionably styled face, the iA sedan represents 100% Mazda goodness.

    I have had the 2018 Yaris IA for like 3 years and I like it. I needed a car to get me from A to B, that is reliable, but still looks nice. it hits the spot. My friends and I always use my car for road trips because my car does the best with gas. It’s a great starter car.

I use it for uber and doordash and have close to 60k miles now. Just replaced my battery last month and im on my 2nd set if tires.... thats it, great car! Im 5’10” and have 2 small girls under 10 so its perfect for now.

    Just purchased one this week and it is surprisingly fun! I can not say what it will feel like on the freeway but she is very steady. It is very different than the 1984 Tercel or 1990 Hyundai Excels I had . Those cars were scary on the freeway ; They felt like floating on an air cushion.

    Rented one for a week on business trip. Thought it was pretty sweet. Only issue was getting in n out, upper front door opening is a bit on the tight side. I had a tough time getting my shoulders past the opening unless I entered completely sideways. Once seated though I really enjoyed the car, pretty fun to drive.

    An odd thing to note. Whenever you hook your OBD2 scanner up to a Yaris with the 1.5 ltr engine, your scanner will always insist the car is a Toyota Vitz or it will not let you proceed with a detailed diagnostic.

    Bought mine for 72 months interest free. Yup a bargain. I used the money I saved to buy 17 inch black rims to match my black IA. Had it for a year and it's performed like a champ. I originally wanted the Mazda 3 but Mazda never offers 0 percent so their loss. The gas mileage is the best and with zero percent going the way of the dodo bird as interest rates are now going up and gas going up? I made the right decision :)

      The Honda Fit is slightly cheaper, though. However, the quality of the driving experience goes to the Yaris. The Honda Fit is zippy, but the handling is lackluster. I test-drove the Yaris with a friend, who was in the market for a new car, and I have to say, I was really impressed with that little car.

    185/60/16 is a very peculiar tire size. I would recommend installing 15" size wheels. That will open up your market options for a dozen of great tires. Continental True Contacts in 185/65/15 are on my Scion xB, they rock.

    Focus gives 160 hp and about the same economy . Focus can be had for 12k on black friday. Yes its not a toyota but not bad for the price . Would rather get a scion tc for 15k used with low miles than this yaris .

      djkenny ive had a few Fords and they will nickel and dime the shit out of you but the engine and transmission will chug on endlessly. Have a 96 explorer at 202k miles and runs smooth as can be. 05 focus at 160k and runs like its brand new. Side note, the new automatics are a disaster for the Focus and Fiesta. Has to be driven like a manual and people just cant grasp it and have issues even though the problems been fixed in most cars.

    Love the car, except the ugly front end. I have noticed that if the car is dark blue or black that the hideousness of the grill is not as obvious.

  • @retrogamer149

    From what I gather, the sedan is a rebaged Mazda while the hatchback is an actual toyota with a regular transmission if you opt for an automatic plus the practicality of the hatchback, you can't go wrong. I'll pass on this.

      I got the hatchback for that reason alone. If I wanted a mazda, i would have bought a mazda.
      No thanks. Give me all toyota parts and easy to find replaceable parts.

    I don’t know why they keep calling this a Toyota Yaris when in reality it is a Mazda 2 with a Toyota label, a model that is over 5 years old. Toyota is trying to trick ppl telling them it’s a new Yaris. Meanwhile the UK gets the real Toyota Yaris 2020. I don’t know why Toyota is doing this with Mazda and the new Supra BMW.
    Thank you Toyota for cutting corners. 👎🏼👎🏼

    Too bad you guys didn't get the Mazda 2. It is so much better compared to this.

    • @buildmorefarms1007
      @buildmorefarms1007 6 лет назад

      Not much better, I owned a Mazda 2...it had sharper turn in and handled slightly better but was bouncy on the bumps and smaller and got less gas mpg. The iA is larger, safer, better gas mpg, fun shifter and handling without the bounce over bumps.

    • @Dongzzzzzz
      @Dongzzzzzz 6 лет назад +1

      buildmorefarms100 the iA is literally the Mazda 2 with a different bumper and headlight. If you like the scion iA that means you will like the Mazda 2 more. My Mazda 2 is firm on bumps, qualified interior, automatic a/c, 4 rear sensors, paddle shifters, heads up display, disc brakes, led headlights and led foglights, bodykits . The new Mazda 2 has good mileage which is literally the same engine as the scion. Good choice tho

    • @buildmorefarms1007
      @buildmorefarms1007 6 лет назад

      True but i was referring to the previous 2011 Mazda 2 hatchback in comparison.

      buildmorefarms100 I know, but the Mazda 2 2017 is better in my opinion when it comes to looks but the scion is not bad.

      Add a cold air intake and a performance chip and you'd increase hp by 30-40 horses. In sport mode it's pretty quick relatively speaking and that's w/o the add-ons. Imo a very good entry car for the price and features.

    • @TheAbrahamHD

      Is this car as fun to drive as a Miata though? I'm in between buying the 2015 Mazda MAZDA6 i Grand Touring Sedan (Used at 20k miles) or this. Probably the 2018. Ahh the mazda 6 looks amazing but has a huge downpayment compared to the New 2018 Toyota Yaris iA. I've always bought used cars so I'm inclined to take a chance on the Toyota but that mazda 6...

  • @schwenda3727

    Wtf was Mazda thinking with this??? Letting Toyota cosmetically fuck their car up like this... This could've been a "lure" for people on a budget to become loyal to a brand... specifically a smaller car company (specifically compared to GM & Toyota) like Mazda where a ton of people have no clue whar they're missing!!!
