I think the mesh pool covers are a lot safer than the solid ones. With that in mind I think the mesh covers are well worth the added price. However, a name brand Loop-Loc cover will run you more than twice the cost of a Blue Wave mesh cover, and I think the Blue Wave is almost as good. I have one of each and I would get the blue wave again, and save the extra money.

I agree with your assessment. Local pool company wanted over $2k to provide the mesh blue wave cover. I purchased a 20ft X 40ft cover from Amazon for $460. I rented a hammer drill for $40 from Home Depot and me and my son installed the cover in less than three hours. This is the third year we’ve used the cover. It takes about 30 minutes to install it each year and it does a great job of keeping debris out of the pool. Thanks for the video!!!
The bid I got from my pool company was almost $3k. For anyone capable of bending over to drill the holes in the concrete, this is definitely a great DIY project to save a ton of money.
I had a hammer drill that I purchased several years ago (actually from Home Depot) and by the end of these 30 or so holes, it was dead. So I think renting one is the way to go!

Theyre pretty much standard. Look at the anchor measurement and size. Loop Loc is screwing people for a China made product

Thank you for the information! My question is, will both of these covers (the blue wave and loop loc) work for a pool that is drained/empty? Trying to find a reliable safety cover for our inground pool before we get it fixed.
Yeah, I think either of them would work fine for that. They are sort of like a trampoline. So it would keep children and pets from falling in.
Are anchors removable for summertime? If not do they stick out to where they dan be struck with feet?
The anchors are meant to stay in place for the summer. They screw down when not in use and become level with the ground. So you can’t trip on it and there isn’t an open hole either.
Our railing in the corner as is our steps. How do you account for that when ordering? Our pool is 14x28.
Most of the time the hand rails and ladders will need to be removed to put the cover on. In the video, the cover behind me, I couldn’t get one off the hand rails out and had to just work around it.
If you have stairs so the pool is a rectangle with the stairs sticking out one end. They make options for that. Where there is an added 4’x8’ part that covers the stairs. If that is the case, you measure the pool without the stairs.
do anchors in concrete stay in all the time or can you remove them in summer
The anchors screw down to be flush with the top of the concrete when they are not in use.

In the video I recommend the mesh safety covers. specifically the "blue wave" because its half the price of the name brand "loop lock". However, if you are in a dry/desert climate this might lead the water loss issue. there are solid safety covers as well, that would help with the water loss and cut down on the initial opening cleaning. The down side to those is that you have to put a pump on top to pump off rain water (a real pain where I'm from).... However there are some solid covers that have a mesh drain in the middle that might be sort of a compromise. I have never had one, but in your situation I would probably look into somethin like this one:

I just had to replace my Loop Loc after 20 year's. They're pushing $2k now for a 16x32 with the 4x8 steps. Amazon was $260 to $500. I went with the $260 and it's exactly the same as the Loop Loc. So people are getting scammed bad. I'm going to actually flip it over and look for tags bc the Pool companies are screwing the consumer royaly. If I didn't have them spread out side by side id have doubts. But Loop Loc is definitely made in China and a stupid profit margin.
I agree! There are a few brands that seem to be exactly the same thing. I got a “blue wave” one off of Amazon and it was WAY cheaper than a loop lock and I think it’s probably just as good.

Yeah. I would think so. This is the style that most people use where I’m from in the US.
I'm in North East Pa and just keep the water level at the 18 inches or higher for snow load. First one lasted 18 years. ONLY to find out Amazon has the exact covers for $260-$500
Do the solid cover hold up better to sun?
Longevity wise, I think they are about the same. I have had a mesh cover (loop-loc) that lasted 18-20 years, and I have had a solid cover (it was an automatic cover, I don't know what brand) that lasted about the same. It is usually the seams that start to come apart. after 20 years in the sun and rain the stitching doesn't hold up anymore. But that's still a pretty good run.

They are fairly easy to instal yourself. A hammer drill does work a lot better than a regular drill to drill all of the anchor holes in the concrete.
I don’t think the heat would be a problem. But leaving it on all year around would probably shorten the life a bit just from getting more use/wear.

"Loop-Loc" makes a 25 by 45. this is the name brand one that is high quality, but kind of expensive.

"WaterWarden" also makes one that is 25 by 45. It is about half the price of the loop loc, but I have never had one of this brand, so I don't know how good the quality is.

@@RoscoReviews I can tell you everything about all the brands Bluewave does not make pool covers, they are just a distributor that slaps their names on things.
Loop Loc slaps a tag on as well. I Just got a replacement for my 18 year old Loop Loc. The $260 Amazon one is exactly the same as the Loop Loc. I'll look for tags in the Fall.
how about mesh style then tarp on top?
I’ve never tried that. I think if you use a solid tarp then you will have to put a pump in the middle of it to pump the rain water water out.
I’ve had a solid one before and I hated having to mess with that pump especially when it go cold enough to freeze the water.
I prefer the mesh style and just let the rain run through it.
When you open the pool in the spring it will look a bit like a swamp. But with a good cleaning you are back to normal again.
That is exactly what I do, the benefits I see are you get the safety of a mesh cover plus the cheap tarp prevents light penetration and the water is clear when you take it off. It also keeps the mesh cover clean so it isn’t covered with mold and pollen and needing cleaning before storage. I end up buying a new tarp for around $100 every 3 years or so.
Is one color better than the other or does it matter
I kind of like the green. But I think that is just personal preference. I don’t think one is better than the other.
I am very new to this and I didn’t find this reliable. You have put the water bag covers in the safety cover category which seems wrong. The safety covers that anchor around the pool also come in mesh and solid options. Solid ones have place to drain water. Solid tarp covers are not considered safety covers.
I’m sorry for the confusion. I was referring to the mesh ones with the anchors as shown in the video as the safety covers.
As stated in the video, I don’t recommend the covers that use the water bags to hold them on specifically because they are NOT safety covers. And I feel that the mesh covers that anchor to the ground, even though they are more expensive, are very much worth the extra cost.
Dude you are comparing a winter cover with a safety cover. There is a huge difference. Those are two completely different types of products. The safety cover is anchored to the pool deck. The winter cover has no anchors and it stays in place by having water tubes around it. The safety cover can be mesh or solid and the solid safety covers are more expensive then the mesh covers because they are thicker and do not let light go through and prevent algae from growing. Safety covers (both mesh and solid) are way more expensive than winter covers
That’s correct. I was comparing a mesh safety cover to a solid cover that is not a safety cover. The point of that was to encourage people to get a safety cover because I feel that the ones held up by a tube of water are dangerous. Especially to children.

You are obviously and ignorant fool. The mesh covers do stop algae growth and are simple and easy to use. Plus safer. ONLY a fool would not be using them. Mine lasted 18 years and a relatively easy spring cleaning process.
What you first mention is not a SOLID cover.... call it poly cover..... solid is just like mesh just nothing gets through it.
There are solid safety covers that are like the mesh ones. This would solve the safety issue. But you still have to pump the water off the top like I mentioned in the video.
I suppose people have different names for things and maybe different brands call them different things.
Some of the covers I was referring to are made of polystyrene, but I’ve never heard anyone call them that 🤷🏼♂️
Don’t buy cover at loop Loc
My first loop loc lasted 17 years, I think that is a pretty good run. I was extremely happy with it. If I get 10+ out of the Blue Wave (i am on year 3 currently and it still looks new, so I fully expect 10+) Then, for the money, the Blue wave would have a better value. But, since it lasted 17 years, I certainly cant knock the Loop Loc.
Shop around. Loop Loc is definitely buying it from China and Only adding a tag. My original Loop Loc lasted 18 years. It ripped. Just put the $260 Amazon one right Next to it to compare them. Exactly the same.
