  • Crossovers are some of the best-selling vehicles on the market and the Toyota Highlander is one of the safest and smartest choices on the market. The Highlander was revised for the 2017 model year and this is evident with the updated look that is clean and simple. Prices range from $31,230 for the base LE trim up to $46,860 for the Limited Platinum AWD model. The XLE AWD model seen here starts at $40,580. Under the hood you get 2 engine choices. The first is a 4-cylinder that makes 185 horsepower and second is a 3.5 liter V-6 that makes 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft. of torque.

    You neglected to mention one of the most significant reasons for choosing the Highlander, Toyota long term reliability. More than 85% of all Toyotas 20 years old, are still on the road. Can't say the same for Mazda, German competitors, GM and the others.

    • @Powernoodle_
      @Powernoodle_ 5 лет назад +9

      A+ on that. Long-term reliability is the #1 reason for choosing Toyota.

    • @barrydraper
      @barrydraper 5 лет назад +6

      @@Powernoodle_ For me, it was among my top reasons for choosing the Toyota Highlander. The others were its well thought out design, including seating, cup-holders, USB ports, visibility, resale value, thrifty fuel mileage for a 4500 lb vehicle and the ability to tow 5,000 lbs safely.

      Gotta love those Toyotas! My son is driving a 2003 Corolla and it runs like a charm. I have a ‘13 Accord EXL which i really like. But now shopping for a Crossover it has come down to the Highlander or the Pilot. Everyone else has fallen off the list. Maybe in a year or two I can snag me a gently used one, or the other.

    • @barrydraper
      @barrydraper 5 лет назад +9

      @@petersuarez651 For me, after a lot of research, I just preferred the Highlander over the Pilot for a number of reasons, but the BIG one was that overall, Toyota makes a better, more reliable automatic transmission for longevity.

    Black plastic on the wheel wells is not just for off-roading. Manufacturers found that area get a lot of rock chips and other debris resulting rust to develop over a period of time. This is why the plastic is there in most modern vehicles.

    We were in the mid-size w/ 3 rows market and after about a year of research narrowed it down to these options:
    Toyota Highlander
    Mazda CX-9
    Mitsubishi Outlander
    Cars we immediately ruled out:
    Subaru Ascent, any Chevy/Ford/Dodge product.
    We eventually settled on the Toyota Highlander. We just wanted the most trouble-free ownership and that's what the Highlander gives you. The CX-9 was definitely the sexiest option but after hearing a friend of ours' experience with them always taking it back to the dealership for fixing things that was the deal-breaker.
    I am really enjoying the highlander and the fact that there is no exhaust/burning oil smell coming into the cabin when idling at traffic stops, like our old Subaru. Just lovely.

      Go to your wireless provider and buy a $50 Hot Spot with a 12 volt charger. I put one in my Tundra 2 years ago and have never had an issue connecting to internet even as we travel 75 miles an hour down the road. Plus you can remove it from the car anytime you need to take it with you. I use Verizon and it cost me $10 a month to have it.

      They are both good vehicles. I have a 2018 highlander limited and it’s beautiful inside and out. But we just went on a vacation and rented a 2018 Ford Explorer. I will tell you this. The ONLY thing I think the explorer my have the upper hand is on the third row seat. It’s about two to three inches more of leg room,however, the second row is a bit closer to the first row which might also help with the additional room in the third row. Other than that the Highlander is a much better overall experience.
