Its been done. Still wasnt something you coild fight with. Its just too heavy for a human to use without throwing them off balance even if they are strong enough to swing it properly.
Dean Tape sword youtuber Skallagrim actually calculated the weight needed to effectively fight with it. It came out to 2500 pounds. Jon Minnoch, worlds heaviest person, weighs in at 1400.

Well, while they did a fairly good job, they oversized it. They measured the blade at 6 feet long. Considering Cloud is 5'7", 6' would be probably the entire sword length, not just the blade.
EDIT: Because I didn't go through the whole video first, here's the rundown. They sized the blade at 6' long. They then made an 18" handle. That means the overall length of the build is 7'6", give or take a little.

@@mymagicloulou4394 they used Aluminum for most of it, much lighter than using something like iron or steel. if you are implying making it out of wood or plastic then that is just a bad idea. the problem here is that the buster sword is not designed well to begin with

That sword my appear accurate but the blades thickness isn't the same as the one Zack and Cloud use. Also the brass/dull gold crossguard/rearguard didn't cover the whole area as bit of blade is sticking out. I don't see that as 100% real. They got the outlook right but not accurate measurements on the width, thickness, length... And also the handle is too long.

The Buster sword in the game is only supposed to be around 4ft long. Cloud is a very small man.

+Ryan Chapman 5'6'' exactly if I remember rightly. When the sword is on his back it's significantly shorter than him. I think it was MatPat of Game Theory that calculated it's length through pixel measurements to be about 4'.
Cloud's 5'9", he has the Buster Sword strapped at a slant, the buster sword is around 5'8" to 6 feet long.
The real question is... can we do an Omnislash with this?

The omnislash is performed with his 6 blade in one buster sword.
This is zacks buster sword.
FingersAU you are also wrong, the Omnislash was originally used in Final Fantasy VII with Cloud’s Ultima Weapon. It was just used with the 6 in one sword later in the spin off FFVII stuff(by spin offs I mean movies like advent children or stuff like the anime movie thing, Final Fantasy 7 last order)

@@fingersau6692 You mean the Fusion Sword? Cloud's second sword after the Buster Sword, which actually originally belonged to Angeal, which was given to Zack and then given to Cloud.
The Fusion Sword does make as appearances outside of Advent Children, however, it's not nearly as recognizable as Buster Sword. The Buster Sword has been synonymous with Cloud Strife ever since the original Final Fantasy 7. It's only in recent titles that we see characters other than Cloud wield Buster Sword.

I have to thank you guys. I was making a paper version of this sword. I only did one side of it. So, my dad showed me this and I managed to make it a bit bigger and with both sides. The actual design of the sword also helped me a bit too. I think it turned out well. At least, for being 11 and doing it by myself. So once again I really have to say, thanks. Also, I liked how the buster sword not only broke the watermelon, but also the table. XD
I forgot how cool this show was, the technical aspects are a great way to introduce these topics to people.
Well to be fair Cloud was super humanly strong even as a grunt great job
He was able to use his impaling to throw Sephiroth into the Lifestream, so there actually is a chance Cloud could have made it to being a SOLDIER. Not first class, but at least third class.
@@iantaakalla8180Cloud could have make it into SOLDIER if not for his mako intolerance and low self-esteem, Before Crisis did said he actually have talent in sword welding even Turks was impressed, he was able to keep up with Zack's stamina in CC as a grunt too.

Squall's GUNBLADE from Final Fantasy VIII. Hands down the coolest sword ever created.

I believe there are certain additional regulations to worry about as well as accidental misfirings.
Squall's Gunblade (and Gunblades in FFVIII in general) did not shoot bullets. Pulling the trigger sent an explosive shockwave through the weapon. A real life equivalent would be a trigger that either makes the blade punch forward an inch or so like a single hit of a jack hammer, or, send an taser tick through the blade or trigger a small front facing explosion.

How about a working version of Cloud's First Tsurugi and Fusion swords from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. That would be one hell of a project. You could probably get an idea of how they work from toys or other peoples attempts. If you could make those then you are a blacksmith god! I would pay a lot of money for those if I had any.

Apart from the handle and the decorative carving on the blade, I honestly think that michaelcthulu's version looks better (look him up at michaelcthulhu ). I'm especially curious how you din not manage to create a more even black finish on the blade.

I've always thought Cloud's Buster Sword was ridiculously huge, even in a video game. If it were the same design but half as thick and maybe 2/3 it's max length, it would be reasonably sized and still a cool looking sword

sykogrupycocanekrzy Yup, I know it's not a rapier (in a literal sense). No worries. =) It's just called 'Rapier' (as a 'sword name') by the game devs and it's named that way in the official guidebook of Crisis Core. Hope that doesn't confuse anyone else.

Actually in FFVII Advent Children Complete, they added it that Cloud polished it and put it in the church that Aerith was in so it kinda all worked out.
I like the way I put it better.
Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors have a plethora of great and forgeable weapons, how about Tadakatsu Honda's Tonbo Giri (SW) or Guan Yu's Blue Moon Dragon? (DW)
