I’ve been saying this for a long time "superhero fatigue" is not real. When things are good people aren’t tired of things being more good, but then things are bad that’s when you hear "oh, I’m tired". The projects that have been "flopping" are the ones that weren’t well received and that’s when you hear people use that phrase of "superhero fatigue". Nobody used that phrase when Guardians 3 came out or spider-verse, The Batman or even Loki season 2. Just put out great content people will lineup to see it. This isn’t rocket science.
This is the exact sentiment John had in the past. I've been following since 2008 lol
I would also add, some films and projects get overshadows by other ones which are not well received, and then don’t get the attention they deserve and under perform. It’s a domino effect.
@@dougsmith4602serious question. What makes a superhero movie? Is punisher a superhero movie? If so how is that different than John wick?
Is it the superpowers? Star Wars and Dune have characters with superpowers. Fast and furious characters basically have super powers.
@@dougsmith4602I like your perspective of both things can be true.
They think more content but less quality, is the same as high quality but less content.
And they don't understand why we don't like it.
Robert being a regular made me resub. Always great to see what he has to say.
Dude you beat me by 30 min. He is the only reason I'm 'occasionally' back. Love Kris but.. Rob's takes and viewpoints are so.. grown-up and experienced. No offense to the rest of the crew but Rob's responses always engages me way more.
I’ve been saying for several years now focus more on a good story over pushing agendas, and to anyone who gets upset over my comment Bob Igor himself said the same recently.
So does this mean we won’t get the Star Wars miniseries of ‘Jaaba The Hut: The teenage slug’ now?
😂😂
DONT GIVE THEM IDEAS!!!
Had to wait 7 minutes to actually hear robs thoughts
Why people don't want to call it what it is.
?
What is it?
I know! You and I are thinking the exact same thing it’s kind of crazy
Confirmation that 'Blade' movie is never coming out! 😭😭😭
HBO killed a 30 million GOT prequel pilot. One pilot episode that cost 2 Godzilla Minus One move budgets, because not good enough.
Iger now wields the Almighty Axe of Zaslav
Deadpool is one time thing. People are going to show up to see Deadpool not to see what happens in the multiverse of Disney Marvel. Good or bad, Deadpool will be its own thing.
Honestly - as someone who was excited for She-Hulk initially, I would have preferred it died on the vine than release that damn mess. Same goes for a lot of other things, especially out of Marvel. Blade, Star Wars anything, DC anything - if you can't deliver a product that's 'good', or at least 'okay' (don't hate it, don't love it), I'd rather not have it at all, even if it's something I really wanted to see.
Also, honestly, I don't think Superman has to be 'great', like 2 billion dollars and put up there with films like 'The Godfather' or 'The Dark Knight', I think it really just has to be todays equivalent to what the 1978 film was, or even the 1989 Batman film. For starters, it needs to not be insanely divisive (meaning it needs to go with a more traditional main timeline Superman). And beyond that, it just has to be a solid enough written story that's fun and entertaining. A truly great film would be the best, but, after an entire universe that was really just dark, pretty messed up in places, on top of badly written many times - I think we really just need a solid Superman movie to get the ball rolling again. I mean, I wanna see DC characters on the screen - I had more access to those characters as a kid, I'd love to see a universe in movies where they can interact - not necessarily all the time but at times, but, I want it to be at least good, I don't need everything to be A+ stuff that has a snowball chance in hell of winning an Oscar.
Burnett spoke the truth. You lose much more money by damaging your brand than by shelving a bad project and eating the cost.
Whe the best news you can give your fans is that you secretly canceled projects you know you really fucked up
I'm afraid "getting rid of the mediocre" will just result in RDJ being brought back in as a quick bandaid instead of really focussing on quality storytelling...
It's better to quietly shut it down than to release ot and everyone keeps remembering it. If the phrase, "It's morbin time," becomes associated with your movies even BEFORE they're released, as we kept saying about Madame Web weeks before it's release, as we are saying already about Kraven the Hunter, it's too late.
Marvel has a list of the movies and shows that are quietly shut down. The only one I can remember a the moment is Iron Man Wars and Eternals 2. Blade is still coming. All Disney+ Special Presentations are cut, like Silver Surfer, The Sentry, Scarlet Witch, and Ghost Rider. And at least 2 Disney+ series are cancelled, such as VisionQuest and Wiccan.
Superhero fatigue isn't real. Bad movie fatigue is. Make better movies and the audience will show up.
Spider-Verse was probably the best superhero movie ever made and there was virtually no audience turnout at my local theater. Indiana Jones had more turnout, though not by much (10 cars in the parking lot).
Then again I live in an area populated with old folks who prefer other genres (war movies, westerns, pulp adventure).
@@johnh.mcsaxx3637 I wouldn’t call spider verse the best superhero movie but it’s definitely up there
There is so much stuff recently thats been quietly confirmed as cancelled
Sword in The Stone
Hercules
Alladin 2
I reckon hes talking about either Marvel or another Live Action project because the Star Wars cancellations are very public already
I don't get how people are upset, they spent the entire year complaining about all of Disney's releases last year, do they want more of that?
Many people clearly weren't even bothered to go in the first place with the box office results, you can't just keep releasing things without quality check and just think people will magically show back up, we need to see quality again
I’m going to say it for John: “Ryan Reynolds. A good Canadian kid.”
People were outraged when Batgirl got axed. I know it was done, but if it's not great then don't put it out. I dont think there's anything wrong eith that mindset.
Honestly I think it's a little of both. I was getting a bit tired of comic book movies by Endgame and was ready to step away, and it was still pretty good at that point. Only reason I kept up a bit longer was covid and had nothing to do. Some people are going to continue to love these movies, and that's fine, but I do think their mass appeal days are probably numbered.
IF HE KILLED MOONKNIGHT, BLADE, SHANG CHI 2 ILL BE BUMMED. And I would include Ironheart as well because I’m super excited to see The Hood and Mephisto.
Sony should be paying attention...lol!
Good Idea!
And I'm still hoping against hope y'all are right, and there's really no audience fatigue.
Iger making the tough decisions we need him to make.
Jon leveled up his office 😮 looks good 👍🏿
No such thing as "Hero Fatigue" only bad super hero movies
IT'S MORBIN' TIME!
Let's be real people don't care much for superheroes movies unless it's worth seening. Golden age is gone when see garbage mcu or DCEU movies because its part of the universe.
I’m excited for the DC universe!!! I’m also hoping Marvel gets back on track! Two franchises on the right path would be amazing!!!
I have to wonder if blade is off. I was looking forward to it. But it is what it is.
As far as I know Kevin Feige said something like " If we have a project, there the R fits we would do it." So he at least did not say "never happening again".
Rumor shows that got canceled were vision quest, armor wars, droids show, probably a lot of Disney channels shows
Good. Everything but Armor Wars sounded bad.
From what I've read Armor Wars is being turned into a movie instead of a show. Considering we never heard about A Droid Story after they announced it that show probably died at inception and is not one of the shows that was canceled.
This happens at every studio. This is not some shock, or something specific to Disney.
They should have cancelled Secret Invasion, even if it was finished and cost so much money. That show damaged the brand so much.
Stop making assembly made, AI written movies papa iger 😂
Ah man there’s goes Space Mountain, Tower of Terror, Jungle Cruise 2, and Cruella 2
I’m betting Shrunk (reboot/sequel) to Honey I Shrunk the Kids got canned.
Yeah thats what I was thinking, since it was suppose to have a 2024 release and there has been nothing...Sad too because I really wanted to see Rick Moranis back on the big screen
It’s cool when Iger does it but people lost their minds when Zaslav did it…lol The world is funny. But I love when these companies realize it’s not good enough and can it. Kudos to them for having the guts to do it.
There’s a big difference between canceling films and shelving films that are finished or near finished.
It was literally the same shit. @@jonrahproductions
@@jonrahproductionsIt's not the first time, movies get cancelled.
@@jonrahproductions Whether it happens before, during or after filming…the end result is it’s not released. And that goes back to my point. If it stinks, don’t put it out. I applaud them for making the tough decisions and not releasing stuff that isn’t good.
@@ToneDesh But it's a huge difference if 400 people worked on it for 2 years or if maybe a group of 10 people developed an idea for 6 months and then decided "Let's not make that".
Didn't john campea says papa iger came back to disney to restore disney from bob chapek?
These changes while tuff now are key to marvels comeback
They are doing the same thing with their theme parks for years now. Talking about things they could do or will do and never start building these things.
6:52 they have cancelled all Star Wars movies.
Golden Age (90s and early 00s) Disney and Pixar later had the few but good Apple style products (straight to video was the cesspool of subpar stuff that had some hidden gems), once or twice a year, a good movie and that was it. Then the suits came in and it was downhill from there.
So Snow brown is dead then?
Granted we don’t know what projects were cancelled, or how far along they were anyway. I get the feeling that almost all the projects that were shelved were even in pre production.
Canceling a lot of these projects is something om honestly fine with less is more as the saying gos
One of the “scrapped projects” better not be Wonder Man. Cause the goat deserves to have his own show.
How much did Disney actually pay to universal for that hulu buy out in the end ?
9 billion
5:09 I’m positive Star Wars fans won’t cry on the internet if Disney announced Rian Johnson’s trilogy is cancelled
"Fans"
And here I am... still waiting for my High Republic Star wars trilogy that will likely never come. A series of movies about the origins of the Sith would also be nice.
yeah they def dont want to mention projects after the Batgirl thing.
Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote Mobius and Gods of Egypt. No shit it was shit. Why did they get this chance?
I don't believe a word he says, ill only start to believe if we see the Rey movie on the chopping block.
movies get cancelled without getting announced all the time nothing new
And this is the company that put out She-Hulk and Marvels, so the canned projects must have really stunk!
I definitely think "lando" is going to get cancelled. If they were planning an "Alladin" sequel I'd say that will probably get cancelled as well.
Im happy iger is making the tuff business decisions to bring Disney back to its glory
I feel like if it was Blade, it'd be a bigger deal. No, I think the ones that were quietly cancelled were the ones that were nothing but whispers. Or were in very preliminary stages of development. And it doesn't necessarily mean it was a Marvel movie. Disney is a big company. As John said, it could be Pixar. Could be Marvel. Could be Disney Animation
I will bet Ali's Blade is quietly scrapped, but that we will get a new one in a few years with a different actor.
I am sorry, but Ali is too old. If the Blade movie comes out next year, he will be 51 years old. These actors need to portray these characters for 10 plus years.
As Hugh Jackman stayed it is incredibly difficult to stay in that type of shape as you get older.
They should cancel the Rey Star Wars movie
Even the most optimistic Disney star wars fan knows that movie is going to bomb real bad
Marvel needs to just rehire the Russo Brothers.
I'm just hoping Wonder Man isn't canceled.
Which is interesting because it was never officially announced
I know right? Wonder Man (aka the goat) deserves to have his own show and this is his time to shine.
It would be sad if they canceled Wonderman, one of the rig workers died in an accident on set to make the pilot episode.
@@deltablueprint3186Oh yes, can’t forget about that. It would be disrespectful for the Wonder Man project to be cancelled.
Didn't Iger claim Superhero Fatigue since his return to Disney?
he needs to calm the shareholders becuse disneys biggest money maker over the last 15 years has been superheroes if that is done they lose billions
Im always a bit heads or tails on johns opinions in general but i absolutely agree with him here not every side character needs there Disney plus show everyone knows marvel greenlit too many projects that have been damaging the brand for years now if they dont make changes they will die
I hope they killed the live action version of Muana... just stick to the animated sequels instead. If they want to do a live action version, make a theatrical play about it, just like they did with the Lion King, and stick it in the Pantages theatre in Hollywood.
none of these "cancelled" movies was ever annoinced byt disney
Deadpool might be the beginning of the new era for marvel
I hope you’re right.
Maybe I’m the only one here who cares, but I hope this hasn’t affected the Eragon show.
Marvels was a fun movie, if it weren't for the over MSheU stuff, I think it would've been better received as an one off. But I did enjoy it. I think just who actually went to see it did, but it could've been better. That singing planet thing didn't last long enough to annoy me.
Quantamania was a good damn movie, and great world building. The only issue was how they dampened Kang as a threat in the end. The trailer told a different and better story and I think expectations hurt what was actually a good project. Literally if Kang wasn't seen as a saga villain and just one for that movie would've been great. Also, if Scott was working for him to get back missed time with Cassie again.
Is it marvel to blame for the ‘msheu’ - god I feel sick just saying that - or is it the fans? I didn’t even notice that there were a lot more female superhero’s until someone pointed it out online… and tbf, I still don’t care. I just watch the thing
@@joshhunt4146 it's Disney. The fans, including female fans aren't on love with the forced feeling of it. It's happening with Star wars too, and I think it ends soon. They probably started with Star wars. It's the right move when it makes sense like basing things around Ashoka or Scarlett witch or Captain marvel. When it doesn't make sense like Rey Skywalker or G'iah or Kahhori/Captain Carter, She hulk, etc.
Definetly Marvel. If they stayed true and got females for the M-She_U naturally, no one would blink an eye. But making every man look stupid in order for females to look good is crazy. Look at Thor and Lady Thor. Moon Knight and Red Scareb. Loki and Lady Loki. Dr. Strange and America Chavez. And there are more but I have to take a dump so I can't focus now. In all of those, the man takes a backseat or looks really stupid for a Mary Sue. This got old quick. @@joshhunt4146
Let’s clean house at Lucas… Let George take it back over for a few years to set it right
George sold it for 4 billion
move on she is not getting fired
Lucas sold, he's not coming back.
I honestly don’t think Lucas would make much better at this point, all respect to the man.
I’d take quality over quantity. But also on the other hand Netflix notoriously stay canceling good projects and giving the green light to terrible terrible movies and shows that nobody watches or only is a very very niche project like those that only cater to white wine moms.
Also let’s consider streaming. Just the other day you say that streaming will have a credits system and a re-sign up fee. If there is even less content then I think that works against that idea in my opinion.
Rip Blade.
Too much product with too little time spent getting a solid script. They try to do too much with these movies - creating worlds, introducing a thousand new characters. It's all prompted by the huge box office genre films make, of course.
Well when DEI is more important than talent and quality, this is what you get. Let's stop pretending that's not a factor.
Care to give any examples?
@Rockscissorspaper look no further than internal memos and Re-Imagine Tomorrow Zoom calls saying it in their own words.
Most corporate entities have DEI boards, entire departments, dedicated to it. Everything made is filtered through it. See Forbes's recent articles regarding the subject.
I keep hoping they'll cancel the Snow White film.
Can someone explain to me why quantumania is always looked down upon as this big failure but not the first two ant man movies. I thought it was better than both of them. All of them have been just as goofy as the last one.
I haven't seen it yet, but from what I gather it had too much of a reliance on CGI that wasn't on point, and the whole premise was (no pun) too big for an Ant-Man film. They took out too much of what made the first two films as well-liked as they are.
They all suck but Quantumania is the worst one. Hell, the worst MCU movie even.
I’d bet money one of them is Iron Heart, maybe Vision Quest.
Vision Quest probably, Ironheart no, if Ironheart was canceled we would have herd about that.
@@Lunapink93 already shoot ironheart
He canceled a mandilorian game
I hope they canned that Marvel show El muetro or whatever it was with bad bunny smh
1. That's Sony
2. It's a film
3. It's back in development, but Bad Bunny is no longer attached
Hopefully cancel Toy Story 5. All 4 movies were excellent. Now it’s time to leave the most popular Pixar franchise in history to rest
Oh dude if they cancel Toy story five I would be so fucking happy. That’s literally the first upcoming supposed movie that came to my mind when they announce this
Secret Invasion was the worst marvel show and it was still made. Same for Eternals it was a huge garbage.
Reason why I bring them up, Is because those the projects I wish we're never made in the 1st place.
I actually quite liked eternls
@@AlricoAmona98 That movie to me a huge waste of Space.
@@AlricoAmona98yeah it was good, one of the last good things they released
Obi-Wan Season 2 is one of them
If they know what’s good for them, they should be canceling iron heart
What Iger championed in the Disney heyday was that people make movies, not companies. Mediocre directors don’t make great movies. They keep hiring mediocre directors and are shocked they get mediocre movies.
I don't think the directors are the problem per se. The writers though...they have been giving their greatest projects to people without a lot of experience.
Why would anyone think this statement from Iger means that what they do release is going to be any better?
Dc, mcu and specially sony.. Are making mediocre movies which is hurting the comic genre in general.
So no Inhumans reboot?😂
I'm sorry flash was just bad
Yeah and Morbius was memorable at least. Meme city. Flash had a radioactive star and was bad overall.
I can't understand how John likes Flash yet bashes Fast X.
Each to their own and all that but I just can't understand liking Flash
Let's face if if the marvels was a comic you wouldn't buy that shit
I don’t know. Just because bad stuff is being canceled doesn’t mean good stuff is on the way. A year ago I’d have been cautiously hopeful. Now, just color me skeptical.
If they weren't good enough to put out, why do you care which ones they were? Just so you could talk shit about them. Pretty lame
find it weird that soo many people hated the Marvels movie. i watched it with my little sisters and we had a lot of fun.. outside of the whole singing planet bs i thought it was decent. not the best but not as bad as i hear a lot of the time.
If they believed in these projects enough to green light them they should jusot tweak them & not just straight up cancel them
Snow white
Big Papa Iger
They got rid of that quality committee over at Marvel Studios after firing Ike Pulmutter.
If Peltz gets on the Disney board, I guarantee they'll be bringing that back.
Complete bullshit. Perlmutter was the guy that said nobody wanted a black or female superhero lead nor that they would make money.
@spicymemes7458 notice I said COMMITTEE
You can't have a one person committee can you? 😒
@@BigdogGaming-sm3lj aren't we saying the same thing?
They are probably stopping good movies from coming through and keep releasing crap movies. I am not sure he knows what us non-billionaires like to watch at the movies.
Iger taking the Kathleen Kennedy approach, we just want good content without any political agenda. Neither right wing nor left wing.
Hard to do that nowadays. People would still find ways to make it political. Cast a black person or a woman as lead, and it's political.
But at the same time, these corpos put themselves in this position.
Idk what you mean by him taking her approach clearly she doesn't know what we want in content just look at the sequels for a start and she just keeps trying to feed us more of that with things like the Rey movie.
@@DarthKilaj85 I mean by announcing projects and then canceling them, also agree that she shouldn’t be running Lucasfilm
@@alejandroangel998yes but what Iger is doing is more canceling what chapek set up and had said not what he him self said
The Marvels wasn’t bad, I found it very enjoyable, but they put it out at an unfortunate time. It was overshadowed by the strikes and also a general lack of enthusiasm following Secret Invasion. Which is a bummer because I think Ms. Marvel is one of the best products they have put out on Disney+ and I think Kamala and Monica brought something really needed to the film and helped develop Carol further as well. Not to mention both projects being massive and excellent set ups for Mutants.
I feel like Secret Invasion, if not being outright cancelled, should have been brought back to the drawing board the way Feige has done with Daredevil: Born Again and parts of Captain America: Brave New World that just weren’t working.
I really think the rush to put content out before it’s as good as it deserves to be, is what hurts the superhero genre, not the concepts behind the projects themselves.
The thing is so many armchair business men think that running a simple and that you do not need to make hard decisions and making a good decision means that means no innocent will be fired or have their projects canceled.
Half of the movies in the Infinity saga were bad.
I wouldn't say half, a quarter of them were bad and a quarter of them were average.
Or Andor season 2 caught in the crossfire? It's been a long time since we heard anything about it...
A year or two ago. they announced that Andor Season Two would be released this year.
They finished filming, and season 1 was well-received. I think it’s safe.
