System of a Down was the reason why I started playing guitar and here I am 10 years later watching this video smiling ear to ear to see people appreciated this band as much as I do. Good job guys!

Don't compare à recorded guitar sound and a "dry" amp live sound. It doesn't make sense. Malakian use hybrid and valves amps and mix em to have a unique recorded guitar sound. The way I see these kind of vidéo is 'Are you in the ballpark " tone wise. And it's good. A great médium oriented guitar sound as Malakian uses
They have a budget in mind when they start. On the same note you could get an Epi SG for a bit less and the smaller Egnater amp and get the same tone for easily under 1k..... But you can absolutely gig with the setup that they have selected.
Do Sounds Like: Metallica (do this one with Chappers) Green Day (it's a must!!!) Buckethead Steve Vai Avenged Sevenfold Yngwie Malmsteen Eddie Van Halen
Magikarp Gyarados It's an amazing tone, simple one, but don't think it's easy to achieve. It's damn hard to decide just how distorted it is. The amp setting is very specific.

I had the master volume at full and the gain at roughly 12 o'clock. the guitars I've tried this with are an epiphone les paul special II and a squier affinity ssh stratocaster. and my amp is a Marshall MG10CF. I managed to get it on dirt cheap gear. it took about an hour and a half to get it totally correct but I got damn close

+ADRIAN INC. The hard part about Alex's tone is that it changed so much over the years. He went from playing a straight up Gibson/Marshall rig in the 70's to playing a strat with tons of chorus and delay in the 80's, and even went other places from there.

I play an epiphone g-400 pro through a dark matter distortion pedal into a Marshall 30 watt and I found its pretty close to Daron's sound. Especially for the Hypnotize/Mesmerize stuff!

To me, Malankian's sound has always been very raw: an electric guitar and an amp. Period.
Daron used to perform with a Fender early on.

Agreed. The sound is way off. Also AFAIK he wouldn't use P90 but either standard pick-ups in his SGs or SH-6 and 498T in his Icemen.

I used a 100 dollar amp, a 110 dollar used stratocaster copy, and a 20 dollar chord and got the perfect soad sound.
I want to like SGs so much, but the way the neck seems to be so far out when using a strap feels really weird to me.
