I love how calm Daron looks while playing this lol
concentrating
He had to play it right, so...
Had he been playing that live on the other hand...
Ikr it looks weird lol
I mean every guitar player is calm while playing home
That self titled album is one of my all time favorite metal albums.
I've been listening to it on repeat for 2 months now. I can't believe I didn't give it a listen sooner!
Their new shit is trash
Dismal Realms he didn't say anything about their new stuff, don't be such a downer
@@dismalrealms3587 it’s not trash but you can tell it was thrown together quickly for a bigger purpose. It wasn’t exactly made in the hopes of making really good music
@@dismalrealms3587 I think their new single is great.
pretty good guitar tone. love the chunk.
I watched this video for 2 seconds before realizing that my clarity down low actually does suck
Yea and he's doing it with a fender😂😂
Arda Aykan Ibanez tube screamer is what u need
looks like a Marshall and a dual rectifier in the background
and i believe you have now good chap ;)
*Rare footage of Daron sober*
theo tell us why your forehead is so fucking massive
@@barrelroll_poopoopeepee fivehead***
who says he sober
@@barrelroll_poopoopeepee 😳😳
You think he’s a alcoholic??
I know that it's a simple riff, but playing it perfectly for the record is almost impossible sometimes. I'm quite jealous that Daron is doing it so easily.
Its a simple riff yes but playing it that fast and cleanly is a whole other task.
The staccato near the end is quite impossible, if you ask me...
@@sutiszorny8039 I can't do that either!!! His right hand is 👌. Same for the quadruple plucking on the ascending verse riff for 'Forest', I can't do that either.
@@fuckamericanidiot I mean the "0-0-0" part in "Know". When he goes to the 3rd fret, it is easier to shorten the notes (because you can fully push down and stop the strings' ringing with your left hand, without making harmonics and other noises), but with open strings...mission impossible. And same for me with "Forest"! Daron is alternate picking, but only twice on one string and going up and down. They say SOAD is easy to play, haha...
Somebody said ,,easy to learn, hard to master"
That tone on that album is just insane, kind of stands on it's own i think. One of the best guitar tones i've ever heard.
What? Nah. It's kind bad actually.
Toxicity is miles ahead.
@@thaedleinad Wrong
It's my personal favorite guitar tone of all time.
@@unknown6390 that's up to you, I think it's muddy and shitty.
You obviously don’t know what “tone” means when it involves guitar. Total crap.
Do you have anymore footage of this? This is extremely rare dude!

@@Proudtobe404notfound 🤦♂️
Unfortunately can't find any more footage of Daron playing guitar, but here they are hanging out in studio listening to the recording afterwards ruclips.net/video/4D_d-YJFxg0/видео.html
This is Sylvia Massy, if she had more footage she probably would have posted.
@@pud354 Watch the whole document, i think there was Daron playing 1 cover of Seventeen by Winger on strat and also some acoustic guitar playing.
the coolest thing about this video is you can tell that this is the exact take that made it on the record
How can you know
@@szczypi0rek because it sounds 1:1 the same and i honestly doubt they'd trash this take to record it again to sound the same.
@@szczypi0rek No, you'll never think you know!
@@TheAsharedhett why?
don't ever think you know!
First time I've ever seen this guy not looking like a psychopath.
Sylvia Massey is such a great producer. Undertow is one of my favorite albums of all time, as TOOL is my favorite band. And, System of a Down’s debut is their best.
I actually like Radiohead more now
@@MyBeautifulDarkTwistedFantasy6 im glad you kept us updated
The debut albums of both are just so so so wonderful
Massey didn't produce their debut, Rubin did... She was the engineer

It's cool to see Daron play a Strat, the humbuckers explain why a lot of people think he was already using the Iceman on the first record, but it wasn't until around 1999 I believe that he started using the Iceman, and then after Steal This Album! he started using the SG.
I don't think he ever used icemans in the studio, man! Of all the recordings I only saw him using guitars that weren't icemans
@@hudsonvasconcelos3237 You might be correct! looking at the behind the scenes footage of making Toxicity you can see tons of guitars but I haven't seen the Iceman, I can howecer see a Jackson Randy Rhoads style guitar, a headless guitar, several Gibsons (Les Pauls, SGs, a 1275, etc).
@@Snandra66 Yeah man ! And in the mesmerize and hypnotize era a lot of sgs, sg double neck for holy mountains, probably les pauls and jacksons !
@@hudsonvasconcelos3237 He apparently used a Hagström and a Jazzmaster on Hypnotize and Mezmerize for clean tones.
@@Snandra66 Interesting !
People: metal on a strat doesn't exist, it's illegal
Daron: I buy my crack,my smack,my bitch right here in hollywood
(Nearly two million Americans are incarcerated in the prison system, prison system of the US)
yea but its got humbuckers in it so it doesnt count
@@rsdigiomoney he’s done stuff with single coil strays too
@@punkrockstormchaserIn their demo tapes
Tell that to Jim Root
The fact that the first record was entirely recorded with a Strat is still the most shocking thing system has done imo.
Look at those pickups though, it's not a classic Strato, it's a completely altered one with 2 humbuckers instead of 3 single coils.
Not really. It’s got humbuckers in it. The shape of a guitar has no impact on how it sounds. You could play death metal on a tele and smooth jazz on a warlock as long as you put the right pickups in them.
@@ragingbill Exactly. Dunno why people still think like this today. Gojira's frontman plays metal on a tele shape. Shape literally doesnt matter at all. You could play death metal on a squire as long as it has the right pickups...
@@ragingbill @Qliphirot @jonnyj. I think it is slightly shocking considering it's a Fender Big Apple Strat loaded with low-output PAFs yet he was able to get such a massive sound on the record with it.
@@themodernguitarist fender big apple strats with humbuckers are hotrodded, they're not low output PAFs lmao.
I'd heard they would track Daron's guitars through both Marshall and Mesa Dual Rectifier amps, for the tonal diversity provided by both amps, and it looks as though that is happening here too (Looks like a Marshall JMP sitting on top of a Mesa Rectifier right behind Daron)
It's still amazing how it's two amp heads and now I know how they got that crunch. :3 Well somewhat. :P
Funny enough that’s the same thing Tom DeLonge from blink did
The guitar sounds so damn badass
love that when the camera pans, the sound gets a phaser effect
Amazing at all levels, the party lights, the guys with straight faces in the background, and the playing itself
Rectifier + Plexi
I love this combination, similiar to Adam Jones with Diezel and Plexi.
Before the Ibanez endorsement
I always like the reggaeton metal rythm of System ❤
Damning with faint praise, I say
I watch this at least once a night before I go to sleep
Thanks for sharing Sylvia. As a guitarist I love seeing studio footage . I wish you had the entire session but I know you had other important things to be doing.
AMAZING. Thanks for sharing!
such gold to watch this! Thanks for putting this up
Best SOAD riff ever. They tried to replicate it on some song in the second album, but it didn't come out right.
What song?
@@MrWillyWonka Can't remember.
@@MrWillyWonka I think it's Forest since the riff sounds similar to Know.

Daron playing with a Strato, that's news for me
In the early days Daron played with Strat
I've seen Serj uses that strat to play Aerials live
When I first read this I thought strato was some new armo band member
that whole first album was recorded on a strat
I was thinkin the same lol that's why I clicked. Feels weird seeing him with a fender
finally youtube recommended the best clip
0:15 Serj - “I wonder if they will be pissed off, if I leave the band?”
Yeah have to agree with you. System had great guitar tone and rhythm.
I love how serj is just sitting there lol
He's probably thinking about what part of America, he hates the most.

That's the same guitar as my first one except mine had black pickups. Nice to see Daron rocking out with one of those lol
He’s strumming so lightly, but the tone is very chuggy.
it's all about technique and tone u kno thatsright
@@Heixisys I know. It’s just funny to watch because when you hear it it’s easy to imagine him strumming aggressively. But nah, very calm and light strumming.
Favorite part of this clip is when the camera cuts to the other band members and they're all just watching him in awe.
Wow! Thanks for share, please please please read the description box, she knows then you know why
Daron knows his guitar very well, he's very gentle with it. Jeez, looks like I've got a lot to learn. What a huge inspiration.
Edit: spelling and general punctuation lol.
He's basically playing 3 notes, sounds cool but not that incredible
@@sirmrguitardude i know that. I can play it dude. I'm not talking about the skill, I'm talking abort how smooth his transitions are and how gently he plays, rather than raking the strings etc. I'm just impressed dby his playing style lol
@@a-lonley-box3657 true that, I'd say tempo and rhythm are the hardest things to learn in electric guitar, sensitive instrument most considering the low tuning of system

Aww baby Daron ♥️
I remember seeing footage of Serj in a tent, on acid in the studio while recording this album
What I would have given to spend at least 1 day in that studio. Daron is just my favourite one 🤟
I just assumed toxicity was their best album for a long time but recently listened to the self titled one a few times and now I’m not so sure

Daron played only strat when system began
Montagu Studios Strat with humbuckers, though, which can sound plenty thick, not a single coil Strat.
He first played a black strat with single coils, then he changed to this strat
