I’d like to point out how varied the riffs are. Some are hard hitting fast and repetitive, some are slow and ponderous, some are acoustic and sweet, and some are just weird. That’s why I love SOAD so much. They do it all.
The good thing about system of a down for guitar and bass players especially when first starting out, their songs arent hard, like at all. They're iconic and simple and fun to play

Then there's one or two very difficult ones on each album. Psycho and science are definitely hardest on toxicity, pictures and highway song on steal this album, cigaro, radio/video and b.y.o.b for mesmerize and too many to count on hypnotize. Both SoAD and Hypnotize are both very technical albums when you consider their other work. Something like the main riff to vicinity of obscenity is crazy compared the main riff for sugar, even if they both fulfill similar roles as the less serious and more fun songs on their respective albums.

Although I'm fine with playing Sugar on bass, but Ddevil and Vicinity of Obscenity are the two songs I can't physically play from start to finish, and I have difficulty playing several other songs (Needles and some other examples that I forgot because I haven't played bass in a while)
Have you ever listened to Serj Tankian solo project? (Harakiri's album sounds a bit more like SOAD while being totally different) Or even Scars on Brodway, Daron Malakian and their drummer (I always forget his name) played did something similar to SOAD. Both solo's projects are quite good, but I'm very happy SOAD is back now, and I can't wait for their next album now they teased it.

These guys are truly musical geniuses. Every album differs so much from each other, however they all sound like system of a down. Every single track can take you on a completely different ride and make you want to think more about how this world really is. It is Just outstanding what this band has done with their music to provide entertainment to some people and inspiration for others.
This guy is a real genius. Every time I listen to the original song by System of Down, I realize that he extracted only the most impressive essences from it and connected them smoothly to make this video. No ordinary person could do that. It's just amazing.

Darron clearly wasnt the best guitarist, his playing is extremely simplistic. But thats not a bad thing. SOAD is proof that if it sounds good, its good music. So many elitists out there these days who think technicality and speed is what makes a great player, but its really all about the creative angle. Like Tom Morello, hes considered one of the greats yet if you took away his pedals he wouldnt be. But thats what makes him great, he was creative enough to innovate and make it sound awesome.
