At the Coronation Review of the Royal Air Force at RAF Odiham in 1953, over 300 RAF aircraft were lined up on the static display and over 600, yes 600, took part in the flypast. When I joined the RAF in 1986, there were more than 75000 RAF personnel serving. It just shows what happens when politicians and the public choose easy options!

Same with the Royal Navy I joined at 16 in 1980, we had 53 escorts....our own FAA Squadrons, now it's a bloody joke, two great big carriers, but hardly any aircraft to fly from them, no escorts to protect them, and very few RFA ships to supply them.

A stark and tragic reminder of how hollowed out the RAF has become! Cheers.😔

The E-7 wedgetail is not in service. The previous E-3s were all retired around 2018. So there is no current AEW.

@@xlerzyfishy6469 James Cartlidge, Minister of State for the Ministry of Defence, outlined the breakdown in a session on May 2, 2024.
According to the provided figures, the RAF’s Typhoon fleet comprises a total of 137 aircraft, distributed as follows:
Tranche 1 variants make up 22% of the fleet, totaling 30 aircraft.
Tranche 2 variants, the largest group, consist of 67 aircraft, representing 49% of the total fleet.
Tranche 3 variants account for 29% of the fleet, with 40 aircraft.
Debate is currently going re the new UK Gov review if to retire the Tranche 1, I suspect we may well get a change of view due to the current circumstances in Europe, and I may add the Argentine purchase of F-16, being that Tranche 1 are in the Falklands. the £300 million a year to keep the fleet flying will be money well spent.
