    I'm joining the "please redo the video" club, for those who have no idea what they are doing and blindly following along. You are very clearly entering the values as hex when you should be entering them as decimal. Windows is clearly showing the decimal value right next to the hex value entered. If this doesn't blow up people's networking, it's plain luck. Unless you're going to tell me that Windows doesn't care if you enter a decimal number into a hex field

    Just by chance, I decided to read some of the comments here and read that the values should be set as Decimals rather than Hexadecimal. So, before I rebooted my computer I went back and changed everything to Decimals then rebooted my computer. Right off the bat, I noticed a huge difference in my internet speeds. I don't know what would've happened if I left everything as Hex and I really don't want to know. Especially if it means learning things the hard way. Everything is working great as is and I don't wanna screw it up. Tech issues are just way too time-consuming for me. But, overall thank you for the vid @Britec09. Does this increase the use of internet bandwidth? That is to say, will this cause a larger amount of netowork usage for the same typical task? Some internet connections are metered and capped at number of Gigabytes per month. If typical use case is the same before and after making these changes (lets say livestreaming a game for 2 hours), would the amount of internet "spent" be the same or greater with the changes in place?

    • @JD-kg3mx
      @JD-kg3mx 3 года назад

      It has more to do with how your PC uses bandwidth and does nothing about your connection to and from it. Think of it as a faucet on a water line. If you constrain the flow of water at the facet it does nothing about the amount of water flowing to it just how your faucet handles the flow.

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora 3 года назад

      I guess I need more context on what each of these changes are doing. Data is data so 5mbps is going to be 5mbps no matter what these settings are. But, since I lack understanding of what these settings are doing, Im assuming that there may be some sort of overlap or some sort of duplication of packets in an effort to improve the end user experience, thus adding more "spent" internet bandwidth for the same data. Its an ignorant but valid question :)

    When you tell people how to do registry values please understand that anything that starts with 0x is a hexidecimal value. The value in parens is the decimal equivalent. The values in parens is NOT some sort of maximum value (as you stated multiple times, whic indicates you do not know the difference). The advice is great and works IF you set the values with the correct number representation (DEC not HEX). Happy New Year!

    happy new year - there was me thinking the best way for low latency gaming is not to use wifi because the half duplex shared bandwidth , but to use a Cat(5,6,7) cable into a switchport instead, that way latency is as low as it can get on the local end - even though i have a lot of experience in networks and thoroughly understand intimately how things work at each layer of the TCP/IP and other protocol stacks, i wouldn' t alter things like send and receive windows or time to live settings, I *DO* however disable unused network services that intermittently grab bandwidth, I wouldnt alter the client settings... things are setup dynamically for a reason, and would take too long to explain how it all works...

    So, it was fairly obvious some of the numbers given were meant to be decimal (they were powers of 2) instead of hex. I repeated the video but ensured "decimal" was clicked in the regedit user interface, and received better speed test values than when the numbers were entered as "hex" (which is the regedit user interface default). However, then I removed all the entries that had been added, and received similar speed test results as I had obtained with the values entered as decimal.
    Overall, my Comcast advertises I should be getting 170 Mbps D/L, 6 U/L on my plan (cheapest they have). My Win10 20H2 Intel laptop maxes out around 120 Mbps D/L, 6 Mbps U/L while my 13 yr old AMD desktop running Linux Mint 18.3 routinely maxes out around 203 Mbps D/L, 6 Mbps U/L. (I ensured I was testing against the same server in all tests.) This is with laptop WiFi turned off and connected directly to the Comcast router with Cat 5 cable, like my desktop. I'm thinking main difference is laptop is running Acronis True Image 2021 which also includes antivirus including "cyber protect".

    why are so many people saying to enter them as decimal. i just followed the video like it says and it seems to have made an improvement. now im not sure if i need to change some of them to hex and some to dec and if i should find a different video because i really want to make the maximum improvement. but even though i just followed this eexactly it made a big difference.

    Gonna have to say you should have taken this video down long ago. You VERY obviously don't understand the difference between Hex and Dec, YES there is the option to use both but they are not interchangeable values. Please consider the following carefully, if all the criticism is consistent with each other chances are there is something wrong. I have looked through it myself and its a wonder how you didn't realize what you did wrong. It is instantly testable to disprove the statement "it means Max Values" my simply changing the value you stated, the INSTANT the number changes suddenly the "Max Value" changes which if it was an actual Max Value then it wouldn't change.
    Please take down the video, I do not care how old this video is, remove it and either apologize for being incompetent or upload a video explaining the steps again using the correct values with a HUGE DISCLAIMER about it probably being wrong.
    for example, my MTU value is 1472 a DECIMAL value.
    If I typed it as you suggested, it would come out as a DECIMAL value of 5234. In HEX values that would be 0x00001472, however if I had 1472 as decimal the correct HEX would be 0x000005c0. Can you comprehend the SHEAR difference in those numbers when being just 1 decimal value off can cause ERRORS?
