I love going into the registry and making changes to suit my needs. I remember people always telling me as i went through my travels through the IT sphere, "Do EVER go into the registry as you'll break the OS!" Since i was always the type of person to NEVER listen to anyone, i went into the registry and broke my OS! BUT...as i got older and much wiser, i learned how to comfortably go into the registry and i've never looked back. I think the biggest problems people have is that they confuse zeros with the letter O. As you mentioned in the video, if you change one single character, you can easily break the system. And the last hack was the best btw.

If you don’t like editing the registry yourself, WinAero does it all for you just by ticking a box. It has like 100 different tweaks and settings like disabling telemetry altogether and also the ones showcased in this video (and probably the next one too).

When editing the registry I have found it useful to just type the first letter and let it jump down close to what you are looking for. Example type "S" to get close to search setting and then use the down arrow to get the rest of the way. This works globally throughout Windows (ie. Explorer, Word...) Also right and left arrows work to expand and colapse branches.

Hey Rich, what an awsome channel! Having held off from upgrading from Win7 due to MS making a total mess of subsequent UIs, you have made the inevitable move to Win11 a lot less stressfull having had to get a new PC recently.
From your Win7 lookalike videos to the reg hack videos, my new PC is actually close to how I had my trusty 12 year old XPS8300.
But what I find is your delivery method is excellent and so easy to follow, unlike a lot of other channels.

  • @warp00009
    @warp00009 Год назад +5

Thank you! The larger taskbar and restoration of the old, functional context menu helps make the clunky Windows 11 UI much better!
I recently got a TPM daughter board to plug into my old Intel X99 based motherboard, after the price dropped substantially - just to see if it would give me the option of upgrading to Windows 11. Even after installing this I was disappointed to see that the compatibility checker still said my system wasn't ready for Windows 11 because it didn't like my i7-5820k CPU (6 cores, 12 threads, clocked at 3.3GHZ - so what's not to like?). I was then surprised a few days later when Windows Update decided to upgrade me to Windows 11 all by itself, which (thank God!) it did successfully. It even kept all my existing applications working perfectly too, stuff like my media server, FTP server, web server, and home security camera hub - stuff that would have been a pain if I'd had to set it up all over again.
The main thing I've been very disappointed about in Windows 11 is how clunky and worse Microsoft's desktop UI has become! I really miss the Cortana/Search textbox on the task bar (without having to pop-up huge menus that I don't want to see), so hope they'll provide some user options for adding it back in.
Even before my Win-10 system upgraded itself, I have used "Classic Shell" for my desktop UI for years. After Windows 11 installed , I was happy to see that its Windows 7 style "Start" button and menus all still worked perfectly - even while the native Windows 11 "Start" button also appeared in the middle of the task bar and worked as well. Maybe someday Microsoft's UI team will create something worth using, but as Windows Vista, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows 11's horrible desktop UI 's show - they clearly aren't very good at this!
Love what you're doing on your channel - subscribing!

When you're navigating the Registry, you can reduce the scrolling about for keys, by typing the first letter of their names. If you're a fast enough typist and you manage to hit the second and third letters, too, you'll get to the very key you want, not just its neighborhood.

It would be nice to make it the default. Microsloth fixed it so that the registry fix no longer does it any more. One good idea would be to put all that minimalistic crap on a special mode for tablets that we can turn on or off at any time. We would be able to choose a classic or tablet mode if they did what I was thinking of. Instead they just want to make annoying changes and continually block us from undoing them. I am just glad I was able to install Windows 10 on my laptop that came with 11 by default. It worked flawlessly for me and all I had to do was make installation media. Of course there are other things that need fixing in Windows 11 but have existed in 10. They are both similar in some ways.

As far as this method versus the ISO method using NT Lite, will theses settings be changed back as or when Windows updates? I only want to change the Logo and Background Screen and not mess with too much debloating with the ISO method to make it faster to load more PCs. What do you recommend? Love your channel and appreciate your knowledge.

So glad I'm not the only one who is irritated by that dumb menu thing fixed in the bonus hack. THANK YOU!!!

I only tried 2 Registry tweaks, ~Change Taskbar size~ would not work for me but ~Restore context menu~ worked perfectly! Thank you! I'm glad to have the old menu back! I'm not a noob on registry tweaks, I've been doing it for years - I typed in Change Taskbar Size in the Reg Editor perfectly but it did not work. I'm running Translucent TB on my taskbar (leftover from Win10), I'll remove it and try again. Windows 10 Pro (OS Build 22621.1413) Edit - I uninstalled Translucent Task Bar and T-Clock (leftovers from Win10) but still couldn't change the size of the taskbar or icons. Weird....

My favorite hack is the one that makes an updated version of Windows 7, including the Quick Launch toolbar. :)

Like you, I hated that new style context window. Consequently, that was the first thing I looked up and changed when I got my new Win11 machine.

Thank you. That last hack got rid of one of my pet peeves. WHY did Microsoft think it was "good" to hide the most commonly used menu items? If I'm using Windows File Explorer, I usually want to Copy, Cut or Paste. What do they do at Gate's ex-company? It's just bizarre!

They have cut copy and paste but instead of them being menu items they're little icons across the top. I always forget which icon is for which and I have to mouse over them for the tool tip. It's unbelievably annoying.

I hate that Microsoft removed Move to and Copy to from the bar (ribbon in Windows 10). I use those a lot to move files. There is a registry hack to bring the Windows 10 ribbon menu to Windows 11 (making File Explorer look like Windows 10)

Just an FYI.. In the WIndows 11 registry you can click and edit the 'address bar'. Just start typing and it will auto-resolve to the key matching what is being typed. Once it finds a match left-arrow, type a back-slash then move onto the next sub-key, etc. till you are where you want to be. You can also copy-paste the path from here. Say you copy the path from this vids desciption. Get there quickly by simply pasting in the Registry hive \ key path. (just an FYI)

I have one more question, I really like the weather icon at the bottom left of the taskbar. But I hate the other widgets like news, roadblocks ect. Is there a way to display only the weather?

One thing you should also do besides making a restore point is export the registry in case you mess up then you can import it back
