I live downwind of the Shell ethane cracker plant along the Ohio River in Pennsylvania. The plant started operating in November and has already far exceeded its annual permissible emissions, has had at least 3 flaring events which turned the sky orange, and recently released a strange odor that is being investigated. This plant was built to shore up the failing fracking industry by creating pellets to make single-use plastics. They received huge subsidies from the state of Pennsylvania. Can anyone think of a WORSE idea?? I hope this treaty would help to shut down this disastrous plant.
Hi there. I am an Indian high school student who lives in Chennai, India. In chennai there is a huge dumpyard and most of the things are plastic. and plastics are all over many places. It's like plastic is a component of soil. I can see many cattle eating those stuff. its highly disappointing. not just that, poor people are living in the plastic pollution. i have shared this petition to my friends and relatives :)
Single use plastics should go, not just straws and bags but the tiny dishes from food vendors, the tiny packages that hold another single use plastic like a fork, take out dishes as a whole. There are so many better systems than what we are doing. We will never be able to quit using plastic entirely so people need to wake up to that as well. The glasses on your face, the hair brush, tooth brush, telephone, bicycle, car and so forth all have plastic. Just look around your home and job, my calculator is almost 40 years old and it is plastic, that didn't hurt the environment, that is for sure. PS why do UN and WHO use flat earth map?
Regarding your postscript, polar projection maps are useful because two-thirds of the Earth's land area and 90% of its human population is in the northern hemisphere.
I noticed here in the San Francisco Bay area that whatever progress we made with restaurants and the laws requiring them to use compostable dishes and utensils went out the window during the pandemic. But yes, you're right about turning off the faucet instead of bailing out the tub. I hope that the US will get on board!
@@kristinaketelsen5797 To my understanding the only petitions that are acceptable to government are on their websites. There is a blank form and that needs to be used, not sure for US>
The actionable item is not very visible and if you do not state clearly that we have to end up signing something . Please put the link in a comment and pin it on the top so that people see it easily.
Scotland has delayed the deposit return scheme another years. Bottled water needs to be banned as should many soft drinks. Although we have a sugar tax in the UK the impacts on health are hardly changed since people already have a high sugar diet. There is excess packaging on loads of fruit and veg yet the focus on crisps was not a campaign that could win. Not one supermarket in the UK has been prosecuted for excess packaging despite the laws being in plae for over a decade.
Exactly, nobody needs bottled water, nobody needs to be eating and drinking alll day long while they walk or drive etc. Have proper meals at proper times. I always took a flask and sandwiches to work and on days out such as coach trips or went to a cafe and sat down usuing crockery not takeaways in throw away cartons, there's no excuse for it.
As much as I would like to think that the plastics issue is receiving international attention that could impact the production of plastics, not much will change until we the purchasers of these products stop buying them and letting the vendors know why...
I thought the same for a while. But it's only the ones who care about this. It's very few of us. The rest of the world does not care, doesn't have time to think about it... It's the truth. It has to be forced politically and through serious ban
The governments of the world need to ban the production of all single use items, We lived without them for centuries, I'ts just laziness on the part of the user and greed on the part of the producer.
Instead / as well as a petition, maybe ask everyone everywhere to dump at least one item of plastic packaging at their local supermarket to build a mountain (of protest) and share photos with a treaty hashtag? Great video by the way. Yay!
A great film a couple of yeas ago " The story of Plastic" I think. Showed how so much of the problem is the result of fossil fuel Industry push, creating a 'need' where none really exists to give them an outlet for a product no one really wanted.
A very important subject which needs to be broadcast world wide, but why the annoying "music" of eight notes repeated, again and again; it distracts from the importance of the message; has nobody thought of producing a video without annoying music in the background?
Why is there an image of a nuclear plant releasing steam when you say "the fossil fuels that plastics are made of". Intentionally misleading, and damages the credibility of the cause you are trying to advance by subliminally influencing ppl to relate that image with fossil fuels.
As the world heats up, more disasters are on the horizon. I cringe when I see pallets of plastic water bottles being delivered to disaster sites. Why can't the response be delivering stainless steel vats of water to disaster areas? Disaster relief is perpetuating the problem.
Nowhere in his presentation does he say anything about demand. We the consumer could be in full control of this problem. If we reject plastic packaging, production of it will dry up. I can't see the US being part of this treaty because it is unfavorable among both Republicans and Democrats. Americans love plastic because it is cheap, light-weight, and indestructible. We love that we can use it once and then throw it away and be done with it. It's selfishly all about our individual comfort and convenience.
Global civilization must set legally binding tolerances for maintaining optimal living standards in conjunction to planets ecosystem and diversity of life. It's very obvious the international corporations have total disregard for life.
Plastic should be used as one of the LIVELIHOOD Program of our government official in our society. Hoping that the United Nation Organization (UNO) is a must there must be Solidarity in making the decision regarding Recycling materials and I know good ensight for the coming of next generation. We should begin first in a small or a little way on how we get our source of income specially the lowless people. No matter how much is our salary in me at least we're not begging to othe people on what food to eat.

Whi is dumping the plastic in the streets?

Well said it's a disgrace.

Save Our Planet Now!
Even drugs can't be stopped itself. This is the world. All we need to do is to not stop doing what is right to divert it.❤
What will replace plastic if such a deal is enforced? (Reminder: the world has no additional agricultural land)

I, too, braved the comments section to raise this concern.
I caught the same thing. Nuclear is carbonfree.
Cleanest energy we have

I agree that we need to know what to do more easily. Where's the link to click?
Where can we sign or push political leaders?
Link in the caption below the video!

People don't care about pollution.
If they cared, they would reduce consumption.
How about """Peace Treaty"""
can we have 5 different video representing 5 continents... the speaker should be woman's Asian African young or old...
All I heard was Blah Blah Blah.
Do the math. Tax plastic -> innovation and recycling
You just don't understand.
We do not have a Plastic Crisis.
