Arthas literally embodies the phrase From Dracula Untold "You think you are alive because of your strength you are alive because of me because of what I did to save you"
For longest time and even now i have a fever called the Wacraft fever. But i never played WOW, I played the RTS game Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne. I think it is an epic and every character have crossed my mind so bad it almost became like a fever. I still think and imagine about arthas illidan the naga the horde the alliance the nightelves. In this video lot of things are missing as I am a fanatic of this game i know almost everything quite clear but still thanks foe making a video on it as it mesmerised my beautiful experience and fever of the game. Warcraft is the best game I ever played. I am in love with the game. Sometimes its not the graphics it the characters and the storyline and the missions that make a game epical.
Till last part of Lich king...I was hoping somehow Arthas released from Lich king cursed 😑 but it didn't happen 😒 because Arthas was my favorite character..I know he was crazy young boy but he tooks that curse thinking he can save his homeland 😥
they pretty similar, both taking a curse to save a homeland but that very same curse is what destroyed their most beloved, and illidan being banished after all he's been through.
missed the culling of stratholme, turning sylvanas into a banshee. What's the point in the video if you aren't going to show the key defining moments of the character/series?
I posted this in response to someone else but I'll post it here too so that more people can see it: this is the story they should have chosen for the 2016 Warcraft movie. One of the many problems with what they went with was that it was too lore-dependent. The story of how the Alliance and the Horde were first formed is just too complicated and involving a lot of concepts and terminology to tell well in a roughly 2 hour long movie that's purpose is to be luring in the uninitiated. Conversely, Arthas' story is that of a fallen hero; a knight in shining armor led astray who becomes a monster. A Darth Vader in High Fantasy. That's the sort of thing that, by contrast, is much more accessible to a casual film-goer, is way easier to dive into without knowing the greater lore, and would have almost certainly resonated with audiences more if it had been done right. You don't need to know the names of all the main locations, Fel Magic, the politics of the Alliance, etc. to understand what makes Arthas' story so tragic. And that's why its a much, much, much better choice for a movie that's being marketed to an audience that, for the most part, has never played these games and knows nothing about them.
I remember that one: 'I'll hunt you to the ends of the earth, Mal'ganis.... TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH!' How did he know about Earth when he lives on a different planet? something is fishy
I remember running my rogue friend through culling of stratholme about 25 times for the bis dagger drop before naxx.... never dropped for him but I'd won and vendored it 3 times lol. Could quote the entire instance about 1/2 through the runs and still thought it was a good dungeon if painfully slow to run 30+ times. The really was THE moment that made him... only reason he would have accepted frostmourne to begin with
Nice! Thank you. I knew some of the details but this added dimension. I had hoped to see something of Stratholme. The portrayal of Arthas as seen here paints him to be consumed by revenge, immature and petulant. The tragedy and horror at Stratholme showed his humanity, his tenderness. Even though he made an awful choice that day and ended up being seen as cruel by the residents of the city (how could they not feel that way?) I could see the battle he had inside himself.
actually thats the most relevant choice that should be made... the genocide itself is impt because had they leave it as it is, undead army will rise n harm them. the problem was when arthas went to chase mal'ganis, n uther/jaina that didn't stand with him when he need them imo this was the turning point of arthas.. yeah.
Yo my boi you skipped so much! culling of strathome, invasion of silvermoon, summoning arch by invading dalaran, informing illidan about scull of gul dan, the betrayal of some undead, the fight against illidan are all pretty important events that had cutscenes. Some minor things you missed are meeting anubarak, raising sindrosa, fighting ancient ones and old god entities. basically the whole journey to icecrown.
yeah i get how you gotta cut some stuff. was great still. i read the comments below after i typed it out and went aww jeeze pcpenguin already covered this.

AFter playing the warcraft franchise for over 20 years. It all started because of my father when i was 8 years old he played warcraft. This is nostalgia for me watching all this. Gives me goosebumps
I'll never name my son with a name like this. Knowing the end of Arthas, this sounds like an evil outcome, A bad omen. We shall listen the words of the spirits and the deads. Or we will just be doomed ourselves and being condemned to be companions of those deads who warned us. We Italians have a kind of "six sense" about bad luck and similars. After all, here there are 3 thousands of years of deads that wished us every kind of things. Let the deads sleeps in peace and always listen their words.
Something that's funny is that arthas's story is very similar to anakin's in Star Wars but this came out before episode 3 so technically blizzard did the darth Vader transformation first.
I find his story to be the saddest in WoW he only wanted to save his people and in doing so he became what he hated the most a true Tragedy... His story is a must read
What a horrible fate at the very end. Becoming a DEathknight than the Lich King is cool; I'm not talking about that. I'm talking his final chapter in Shadowlands; his soul being painfully and nightmarishly drained until he was nothing but a single particle... which faded away into oblivion. THAT is a cruel fate- to never have the relief of a after life; his soul just faded into oblivion without a whimper... horrible. I know he aws a evil man... but geeze- geh. What a nasty fate. THen Sylvanas says something like: 'Just fade away, Arthas... and your legacy, story will forever be forgotten.'
It's strange to hear them laugh at 4:10, since now the Afterlives:Bastion cinematic shows the injured soul of Uther, willing to cast his own student into ever painful and eternal torment at the hands of the Maw instead of going through the normal process of death.
I feel so commoted by the story of Arthas Menethil. He was promised to be a great king, but after being corrupted and turned into evil, he became something else that was even more great. Something that in life and in peace he would never be able to become. Arthas became a legend without legacy. A force of nature. A will of a power beyond restriction. And still he was almost able to control that power. He was moved by his love for everything he loved, and he was doomed by love itself. Arthas now its a legend, a legend that it could be wishpered quietly, in order to not disregard the deads. A legend that tells us what will happen if love fails and our will not. Something that is against everything we are trying to build right now. Peace, brotherhood, love, respect, an unified species. He is the form of the ultimate will of man. Blind, absolute, intolerant and ferocious. Nothing good came from that path. Remember it when you are in doubt. Even me, myself, I was in doubt. But I've chosen a path of humble negation. I'll be poor and forgotten in short time. But at least I'll never turn any mother into a widow. No one will never dress the black due to my actions. It's a small price to pay for the right choice.
Not a big fan of the in-game chats but since you are using them, stunning misser that you jump from infected grain to Northrend. You show Arthas becoming evil but not the why, the part in lordaeron that makes him hell bent on revenge
I didnt intend to include them all, it would be far too long of a video. I agree that culling of stratholme probably should have been included though...
I remember when i first had installed lich king and first saw that intro.. Fuck my life.. Amazing it was. Then i quit after lich king and I think wow itself did too in a way..
10:48 these in game cinematics look like a parody through today's eyes. "baang.....arrrgh...dies....Frostmorne drops....whatever". 12:08 "slash....arrrgh...done"
Arthas storyline is the best thing abut WoW, WoTLK was and still is the best expansion ever, the others are fine but WoTLK really had me hyped back then and brought tears when it came to an end.
Because it carried along with it some of Warcraft 3's main story. Now the lore is all over the place and is specifically for WoW. No longer an actual Warcraft game :(
I see a lot of people saying that Arthas should have been the focus of the Warcraft movie. As awesome as that would be, there is a big reason why that would be extraordinarily difficult, not from a visual perspective, but a storytelling one. To tell that story, you have to also tell the story of Ner'zhul, which is a massive story in it's own right. You have to tell Illidan's story as well, equally long. Basically, you need about three movies to tell the whole story without RETCONing the whole story and making something new, which they would undoubtably make worse.
I think wow should get a prize for best storyline ever created aswell as most badass character and so on i think we can agree all that nothing even comes close to arthas . It matches up so perfectly the epic music the lore the feeling you get everytime entering icc or nordend like it gave me goose bumps everytime if i could turn the time back i would go for release of wotlk man:(
I absolutely love this character, him and Sylvanas. Illidian is awesome too. These 3 are my favorite characters in Warcraft 3. I'm sort of regretting that I haven't really been focusing on lore in WoW cause there are probably many amazing storylines too, although I'm glad that Sylvanas is getting some love lately. Also, if any of you watched Sons of Anarchy show, I'm curious if you're seeing any resemblance between Jax and Arthas ^^
Honestly considering what horid things Arthas does in the campaigns, it's surprising that I feel like rooting for him during his whole journey to becoming the lich king, especially in the frozen throne campaign. The game does such a great job at building up his character and story! Definitely the reason I got into the Warcraft universe to begin with!
The first encounter with the abomination, the first encounter with Kelthuzad, the culling of Stratholme, being abandoned by Jaina, his betrayal of the mercenaries that fought beside him, his burning of his own ships, his exchanges with his past paladin brothers, his first encounter with Sylvanas, his killing of Sylvanas, his sacking of Quelthelas and destroying the sunwell (pretty much created the blood elves), his exchange with that wizard dude in the level where you need to pass the death wall by killing lesser ward magi, his return to his kingdom, his exchange with the dreadlords, his injuries sustained by Sylvanas' betrayal, his association with the Nerubians, his initial battle with Illidan, his final battle with Illidan, the entire battle for Northrend between the two, the internal struggle he went through to fend off Nerzhul's possessions, the killing of his inner self, various mental mind games and atrocities along the way that add up to one helluva villain. Better, even, than the Joker. And I'm a huge fan of the Joker. There is a lot you left out, even more i bet as i haven't played WOTLK. Before you try to make a video detailing something, make sure you get it all down and don't leave out vital character plot points like Stratholme.
5:22 "If we allow our passions to turn to bloodlust... we will become as vile as the orcs..." 10:21 "Forget this business! Lead your men home...!" sounds familiar... goosebumps
Fun thing to think about: Somewhere during that council in the first cinematic, sits Deathwing. Probably the guy that tells everyone it's rubbish and nothing to worry about.
I always thought it was ambassadors from the various Kingdoms that are loyal to Lordaeron. So that'd be Gilneas (not sure if they had put up the wall at this point), Alterac, Stromgarde, Dalaran, and Stratholme. Maybe I'm missing some, but I think that's all of the big ones.
I wonder how many people will be playing online and how many custom games will return to popularity. I hope that just as many or close to wc3's prime will return as well as tree tag, custom hero arena, angel arena, X-hero Siege and more will be available. I loved those games as a teen!
Man i wish they bring back arthas and punish him for his stupidity by becoming like an angel bound by serving the light forever and no matter what or hopeless the situation the people of the alliance, he needs to give them hope and continue to serve
Oh cool negating his free will will also serve well, when shackles 'll fall after time, creating supermonster Arthas again. But Igo farther. Some times ago: "Father! I dont want to be next king. I have some guys creating a folk band . I'll be leading them. It will be great. We will sing about the greatness of our homeland. And their will be a little baroness I'm loving so much." You will be the next king , or all your buddies will work in Kings Stoneyard and your little baroness...." "Oh, OK. Can I say goodbye to them?" "No, you will never see them again, or else....!" Some years later..... "Welcome Arthas, Victor of the Icecold North!" "DIE FATHER!!!" So why should I say something like this? Imagine the ending of Arthas' story. Lying in the arms of his father. Some stupid Paladin wants to crown himself with the Icecrown. And the Kings says A) : " No do it not, it will send us all to another age of terror!" or does he say B) "Yes do it! There must always be a Lich King!" I think it was B) But, after all what happened to him and Arthas no human being with some intact soul , even if there is no alternative to do such a thing, can say such a sentence. Arthas' Father was thrieving with hate in such a manner in the moment .....
Megan Kittner yeah i'm not antagonizing you. Im just telling you what i want in for arthas if he ever comes back. I want him like tyrael from diablo as a messenger of loght and will never ever lose hope to humanity. You dont have to be so defensive ms.
This skipped the bits about slaughtering the infected villagers. That is one of the most important moments. We might even argue it was the right move, but his willingness to do it shows how he's psychologically vulnerable to paying steep prices and making tough sacrficies, and hence foreshadows him taking up Frostmorne despite its curse.
Employees get a similar helm to the the Lich King helm shown at 17:25 on their 20th anniversary. It looks like the helm of a "good" Lich King, at least thats how I think of it.
The incident At wraths gate truly demonstrates how evil the forsaken really are And how they have no business being part of the horde. They should have always been they’re own separate faction
Great video. I love the story of Arthas; it is so tragic. One can see the gradual descent into corruption over the course of time. However, you forgot a major event. The Culling of Stratholme. This, in my honest opinion- and it seems that way from the story- was a major turning point in Arthas's life. It was the first time Arthas committed an atrocity, even if he did it with the intention of saving his people. The conversation he had with Uther beforehand- when he disbands the Order of the Knights of the Silver Hand was a major part of the story. It shows Arthas making the conscious decision to commit a horrible act and defying his Mentor and his Order's laws. My question is: Why was this excluded? I know the story predominantly from playing WoW back in the day, and from reading the WoW book on Arthas's life. I've never played the single player games Were there no cut scene to include? Also missing is the conversation Medivh has with Arthas, telling him if he goes down the road he is pursuing, it will hasten the destruction of his country, rather than prevent it. Not as important as the Culling, but still a great foreshadowing. All in all, though, this was a well done video. Good job.
Yeah Tirion sure had his own destiny to fullfill. Getting offed in early Legion so that players can wield his signature weapon and lead his faction. Course they intended more for him with becoming a Death Knight but people did not like that and for some reason Blizzard decided to back peddle. I wish they stayed the course, I think they got something in the works with the Scourge and Tirion was going to have a major role. It was hinted at a lot through the Death Knight storyline in Legion, especially with the Frost Death Knight Artifact and the whispers of the old Lich King hinting heavily at this.
The sad and funny part is, Arthus in the books would have never touched the blade IF JANNA helped him during the purge. His last hold on his humanity walked away when she denied him knowing that the only way to stop the scourge was to purge the city. He was force by the light to choose abandon and let more get massacred do to his choice of stop it there and be abandoned and hated by all till pushed into madness
Grom's storyline would be so badass for a movie. His life and survival in draenor, him succumbing to madness by drinking demon blood and him getting redempton with thrall's help.
I'm soooo fucking much of die hard fan of Wrath of the Lich that I still live in some dead WotLK servers, I've never even made an account on any expansion after WotLK. Blizzard has invested sooo many childhoods into Arthas, it's absolutely crazy.

Arthas killing his father is the best Blizzard cinematic ever.
The movie Warcraft should have been based on Arthas's story.
Till last part of Lich king...I was hoping somehow Arthas released from Lich king cursed 😑 but it didn't happen 😒 because Arthas was my favorite character..I know he was crazy young boy but he tooks that curse thinking he can save his homeland 😥
Ilidian is a better hero/villian
they pretty similar, both taking a curse to save a homeland but that very same curse is what destroyed their most beloved, and illidan being banished after all he's been through.
Not sure bout illidan but wasnt Arthas already a prick before he had the frostmourne? he performed genocide with no remorse.
Arthas kicked illidans ass. And Frostmournes curse is what makes Arthas who he is. Id rather he die than be some shitty redeemed paladin.
But when he said "father, is it over?" Wasn't that Arthas speaking?
The dutchman must always have a captain...... oh wrong franchise.
What do you mean? It is not in real world so there are no dutchman here
Well there is a ship that's literally flying and Jaina's the captain
No get the reference?
Thomas Cole
Guessing no one got the reference lol

missed the culling of stratholme, turning sylvanas into a banshee.
What's the point in the video if you aren't going to show the key defining moments of the character/series?
No conflict with Illidan either.
ciknay547 Sylvanas was merely a step for Arthas. Not something important in his story.
Valerius Wolf he created a banshee that betrayed him and creat a new faction from its own army, nop, nothing important really
thomas Simonart she was never a threat to Arthas and the lich king. She was merely an obstacle
Still doesn't explain skipping Stratholme.
You should've included the Culling of Stratholme
Yeah, especially since that was a MAJOR turning point for Arthas.
I remember that one: 'I'll hunt you to the ends of the earth, Mal'ganis.... TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH!'
How did he know about Earth when he lives on a different planet? something is fishy
because earth means ground and that means that he will hunt him everywhere
THIS CITY MUST BE PURGED!
Marianne Wade d
actually thats the most relevant choice that should be made... the genocide itself is impt because had they leave it as it is, undead army will rise n harm them.
the problem was when arthas went to chase mal'ganis, n uther/jaina that didn't stand with him when he need them
imo this was the turning point of arthas.. yeah.
So much of Arthas is missing. His descent into madness after having to purge a city before the plague turned them into scourge was awesome
+Kevin Howard sorry man. Had to cut some things in interest of video length. Wish I would have included strathome in retrospect though
yeah i get how you gotta cut some stuff. was great still. i read the comments below after i typed it out and went aww jeeze pcpenguin already covered this.
@@kevinhoward9174 have you found a video that contains all of those , I don't care if it's an hour long
PCPenguin long time since you replied this but any interest in making a full length one with all the above cutscenes? You know us lore junkies will watch the whole thing - even if it’s 3 hours lol like another dude in this thread replied, it’s hard to find a video with everything
My son. The day you were born, the very forests of Lordaeron whispered the name, Arthas.
AFter playing the warcraft franchise for over 20 years. It all started because of my father when i was 8 years old he played warcraft. This is nostalgia for me watching all this. Gives me goosebumps
Oh, the arrogance of Bolvar. The fact that he wants to be forgotten by the end of Wotlk, and is now starting to reach out is not by chance.
That sure didn't go how anyone expected
Noooo Arthas... That 2H mace could be desinchanted!!!!
Moralescofre so is this the past story of dota 1&2?
thats the big part of the plot for warcraft 3 and world of warcraft

Arthas: I intend to live forever
Patch 3.3: I'm about to end this man's whole career
The Arthas story is amazing. It's a shame that they concluded his story in the lousy cartoony MMO, instead of giving us Warcraft 4.
Yep. Shame indeed. Arthas deserved more than to be a lootbox for a bunch of mount hoarders. lol
@@kuyt20 Is it over father? Naw son next friday you'll respawn again
THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME FLASH BACKS OF HOW HARD THIS GAME WASSSSSS
ESPECIALLY THE ILIDEN FIGHT
Named my son Arthas... Any my company after him. Such a beautiful name! Amazing but tragic storyline.
Maybe this Arthas may turn that tide and become the hero his namesake once was
@@colleenross8752 we all hopes that.

So that is what happened to Arthas he sold his soul for victory against his enemies by taking that Cursed sword.

Something that's funny is that arthas's story is very similar to anakin's in Star Wars but this came out before episode 3 so technically blizzard did the darth Vader transformation first.
I've always wondered who copied whom.
This story should be warcraft 2 movie...
Factual.
The best story in Warcraft, and yet parts of it was retroactively ruined by Shadowlands...
you missed a lot of cutscenes.
But good video.
I didnt intend to include them all, it would be far too long of a video. I agree that culling of stratholme probably should have been included though...
Skipped entire Loarderon part, makes the video absolutely useless
PCpenguin who gives a dusty fuck if it's 10 hours long id still sit through and enjoy me and a whole army of the couch dead pffft
i remember, me and my sister. after returning from school, we scramble to play Warcraft 3 & stronghold.
I remember when i first had installed lich king and first saw that intro.. Fuck my life.. Amazing it was. Then i quit after lich king and I think wow itself did too in a way..
Crying... :'( the nostalgia.. this has got to be the most captivating story in all of video game history.
The crow , the hall of throne , the unproven threat, the dragon of arthas , the undead... G RR Martin stole a lot !
10:48 these in game cinematics look like a parody through today's eyes. "baang.....arrrgh...dies....Frostmorne drops....whatever".
12:08 "slash....arrrgh...done"
This is probably the best game that I ever played in terms of lore wise and story telling!!!!
No longer an actual Warcraft game :(
Exactly and it's so sad.. Atleast we might take a trip back to memory lane with BFA who knows!
I am going to build a Lich King themed gaming pc. Like this comment if you want me to make a video on the build!
That first little scene about the quarantine hits different
I think wow should get a prize for best storyline ever created aswell as most badass character and so on i think we can agree all that nothing even comes close to arthas . It matches up so perfectly the epic music the lore the feeling you get everytime entering icc or nordend like it gave me goose bumps everytime if i could turn the time back i would go for release of wotlk man:(
Christ... Warcraft 3 feels like a lifetime ago by now. I played the shit out of that game. I still remember all the keyboard shortcuts for Undead.

I believe it is called "invincible".
Arthas is one of a very few villains but respected like heroes
The Lich King is probably the best villain.

I LOOOOVE Thrall. He is my favorite leader of any faction. But the story of Arthas is ultimate. He is by far the most enthralling.

"we may never know, I intend to live forever"
I absolutely love this character, him and Sylvanas. Illidian is awesome too.
These 3 are my favorite characters in Warcraft 3. I'm sort of regretting that I haven't really been focusing on lore in WoW cause there are probably many amazing storylines too, although I'm glad that Sylvanas is getting some love lately.
Also, if any of you watched Sons of Anarchy show, I'm curious if you're seeing any resemblance between Jax and Arthas ^^
Most epic fight of warcraft is missing ,Arthas vs Ilidan, anyway excelend job !
For those confused, the ending is about Jaina's Locket which one can loot from the Lich King during his defeat.
Arthas Menethil was a better Anakin Skywalker than Anakin was. Truth.

Fun thing to think about:
Somewhere during that council in the first cinematic, sits Deathwing.
Oh yes. ever lasting service as paladin was a good idea for Arthas' live in first place, lets try it again.
Megan Kittner but this time he is bound to it he cant be corrupted he will be shackled by the light to serve
Oh cool negating his free will will also serve well, when shackles 'll fall after time, creating supermonster Arthas again. But Igo farther. Some times ago:
"Father! I dont want to be next king. I have some guys creating a folk band . I'll be leading them. It will be great. We will sing about the greatness of our homeland. And their will be a little baroness I'm loving so much."
You will be the next king , or all your buddies will work in Kings Stoneyard and your little baroness...."
"Oh, OK. Can I say goodbye to them?"
"No, you will never see them again, or else....!"
Some years later.....
"Welcome Arthas, Victor of the Icecold North!" "DIE FATHER!!!"
So why should I say something like this?
Imagine the ending of Arthas' story. Lying in the arms of his father. Some stupid Paladin wants to crown himself with the Icecrown. And the Kings says A) : " No do it not, it will send us all to another age of terror!" or does he say B) "Yes do it! There must always be a Lich King!"
I think it was B)
But, after all what happened to him and Arthas no human being with some intact soul , even if there is no alternative to do such a thing, can say such a sentence.
You skipped the part where Jaina left Arthas
This skipped the bits about slaughtering the infected villagers. That is one of the most important moments.
We might even argue it was the right move, but his willingness to do it shows how he's psychologically vulnerable to paying steep prices and making tough sacrficies, and hence foreshadows him taking up Frostmorne despite its curse.
I wish they would make a Tv series of World of war craft even if it is CGI because it awesome.
yes and the movie was bad
maz ditzo I agree I had high Hope's for it to :(
Bolvar taught us something, the best way to become the Lich King is to be the first one to get on the Frozen Throne and refuse to move.
Slaying the Lich King was the last thing I did on WoW. Everything else just felt like a filler to me. Arthas and Illidan made Warcraft what it is
Great video.
Thrall's early years would be awesome too. Lord of the Clans would make a great movie!
@@-Wolfheart only the early years of thrall. Him becoming green jesus is not for my taste.
I'm soooo fucking much of die hard fan of Wrath of the Lich that I still live in some dead WotLK servers, I've never even made an account on any expansion after WotLK. Blizzard has invested sooo many childhoods into Arthas, it's absolutely crazy.
