Nice cover !!! Congratulations !!! And I'm very happy to see your daughter play with you, in this actual days, this is really rare !!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺
I start watching and you just kinda think to yourself, " I wonder where he's from", and then it all clicks when you see the "dancing kiwis!". Made my day mate!
What an awesome bass player you are, and what great job you do transcribing/playing👏👏👏👏! Please say your wonderful daughter is musical as well, because her rhythm is tremendous💃🤸🦱!!!
Great job Todd.. having your daughter in the video added some spice what a cutie.. enjoy the time when there small.. I’m sure you heard this before but the time really flys by.. I remember when mine where that young now there all grown up.. don’t know where the time went..?? Oh I love that Squier with the matching head stock.. almost forgot to tell you that.. see what happens when you get old!!! LOL... have a great day..
I have watched a few videos of guys playing this song and you're on it man! I hear it the way you are playing it! And your daughter adds great entertainment! What a blessing!
Best take on the cover. Priceless! Don't be surprised if Ellen gives you a call to appear on her show because your daughter is soo adorable and stole the show lol... Great Job. Smiles for days!
Thanks Todd! Nicely done. I can remember when this came out in 1972. Tyran Porter was the bassist. I was a huge DB fan - even joined their fan club. LOL! Your daughter was a nice add, giving me a laugh.
Love it and your daughter is simply precious!! I have a little girl about the same age as yours, and she keeps me in check. 😂 Daughters have their daddy's hearts for sure!
Excellent cover Todd, I like the embellishment you added to some parts. The tone is excellent great choice with the Jazz bass. I think we also have a new star on the Todd Hamby channel 😊
Awesome playing. I’m new to bass. I’m coming from a brass instrument so I relied on sheet music and now I’m having to learn to play by ear. A lot harder than I thought it would be.
Well I am back again because I forgot a few bass runs :)... At least I got "Long Train Running" down pat. I that an EB Musicman Stingray in the background?
Hey Damian. I was completely self taught the first section of my playing life. I played from the time I was 15 until about 32 years old. I set it down for about 12 years and started back playing when I was about 45 years old. So over the last 11 years I've taken lessons with Anthony Wellington and the a local person that taught me about reading and theory. I usually play about an hour to 2 hours a day working on songs and learning whatever catches my ear at that particular time. I hope this helps and thanks for asking :)
I keep forgetting this song and have to keep coming back to learn and get a few laughs. I also have a squire p bass. Pulled the neck off, sanded it down, used a red type stain and topped of with some boiled linseed oil. It looks like those flamed necks that are being offered my Ernie Ball and Fender. shhh.
Hey Todd, you can tell me to go jump, but I am wondering what fingering/notes you are using for the 7th bar/measure of the first verse? I have watched your cover heaps but I can't make out. The tab I have is ok, but i like what you have done. My tab is 7 7 9 9 on the a string then a 7 on the d, another 9 on the a and then 7, 8 9 on the d string. As I said, tell me to go jump if you don't want to answer. But if you do, I can promise you free lodgings if ever you are down under. Hehehe. Cheers ian
@@oldmanvlog1154 it starts with open A to B to C# to D to E to F# (all on A string) then F# to A on D to F# on A string back A on D string to A# on D string to B on D string. On the climb to the F# on A string I’m usually hitting the note the right again as a pickup note before moving to the next note. Let me know if this makes sense.
Clears it up for me perfectly and the way you play it is exactly how tirian played it. It is interesting how many tab transcriptions are not quite there. Thank you so much for your help. As I said you didn't have to but am super appreciative that you did. I am playing it at 106 bmp which I am assuming is correct. Cheers mate.
Not sure what NC means, but I'm guessing that it's the Blue Ridge Mountains? Todd, how are getting that tone on your J Bass? Are you using a compressor?
Yes sir right next to the blue ridge mountains :) For that tone all I'm doing is using the neck pickup and running into a boss gt10b for compression and straight into the camera.
John Fogerty Country. Too kool for SCHOOL! I'm glad you said you compressed it, as I thought you had. It sounds great mate, Tiran, would be proud... onya Todd
Great cover! As per usual. Since I’ve been watching there has been a wall Of amps behind you. Do you play through all of them pretty frequently? Is there one that gets more love?
i think we know who is responsible for the unicorn sticker on the bass. great job.
you are correct!
Her emotions are EXACTLY what the song is about.
Thank you!
This makes me smile every time I watch it....
😀
Than you so much! that little baby is my heart

How do you learn new bass lines? Do you find sheet music or figure it out by ear? Or write it out yourself?

Yes, that part
