- The A/C was stuck on defrost in my 5.0 Mustang. No matter what I switched the controls to, it remained in defrost mode. This means loss of vacuum pressure. After a little thought, I decided to check out the vacuum lines under the hood. TO my surprise I had a bad a/c vacuum line. I replaced it and viola! A/C fixed. This video is intended to help anyone with this same issue.
I just had to say thank u so very much!! I looked like a bad ass in front of all the guys when I fixed my sister's car LMAO !!! She has a 1996 Ford Mustang. 6cyl. I found the hose not hooked to the boot but hooked to the ac box under the hood. Your video was very helpful!!
Thanks for posting the video! Had this problem for over a year, never thought to check the vacuum hoses!
Thank You, just had an argument with my mechanic, air was coming before I took it in, they replace the valve covers so they had to remove the manifold, when done only air came out of defroster, they wanted $350 to fix it, a problem they caused, did as you recommend on the video now works fine! had to go back to mechanic and showed him
You are a life saver! I just got my heater core and evaporator core swapped which was a big chunk of money to fix. I was worried it might have been something to do with behind the dash.
Thanks man! My wife had a problem with her 91 coup AC. No air out the front, but cold air at the feet, next day- no air at all. I looked at the hose at the manifold, the little hose crumbled in my fingers. I connected a temporary hose and the AC is back to normal. Thanks again!
On the Mustang V6 3.8 liter there is a thin vacuum hose that runs 3/4 the length of the firewall. Sometimes there is a check valve. This hose gets brittle with time and breaks. It's at the very top and very easy to see and get to.
I have a 96 GT convertible. Not the same connections, but the same principle. This helped me fix my problem. Thanks for the video!!
Your the best! I just got my 99 Mustang back from the Transmission guy and the AC would only go into the defrost mode. Of course he said he didn't touch the AC. The vacuum line was just above the transmission dip stick and he broke the line. For now, just some electrical tape fixed my problem. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! just dropped in a built 306 and was freaking out because the a.c. was coming out of the defrost area and it's getting pretty hot in az. saved me from sweating my ass off
This video really helped...i had just bought a car and wondered why the ac only went out of the defroster....after watching oyour video i found out by inspection that the a/c vacuum hose was just disconnected. ..thank you
Thanks for the video, just did a cam swap and then it got stuck on defrost. This video made for a 20 second repair.
This is a common problem on many other Vehicles.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this. I took apart my center dash trying to fix this problem. then i watched this video and realized my vaccum hose to my A/C was completely detatched by the manifold.
excellent, I had this problem before and watched them "fix" it at Firestone -- very simple to do and this just refreshed my memory on "how to". Soon as the engine cools off a bit, I'll go check it out.
You saved my day.. My original (small) lines were so brittle and fell apart in my hand. Thanks for the post.
Thanks for the plastic in wind proof, but it turns out we could hear the breeze blowing.😊
Thanks! I've got a 93 LX 5.0; had the exact same issue, and this video helped me fix it. Like the other comments below, now my woman will quit complaining about how hot it is in my car--we live in the desert, and it is hot!
Dude, you rock. Same issue with my 1995 Stang. Now I just need to find out where to buy the hose.
Thanks so much this fixed my car great work man :)
crazy that's what it was on my 2001 Ford Taurus thanks forputting this video up
Best help I've found yet. for my Pontiac gto
mine was a little different problem but fixed it because of your video, thanks.
I haven't looked at it yet but it makes perfect sense. It quit working when a shop put new head gaskets on my car.
That help a lot in my 5.0 thanks a lot buddy!!!
Dude this helped a lot solved my problem too.
My 1998 Mercury Mountaineer had a digital climate control but still I had a bad vac hose. Thanks man

My little brother found the problem, Thanks for your video
Thanks man! Mine has been doing this for a couple weeks and it wasn’t a big deal but now it’s getting hot and I wanted my air back. I haven’t owned it long so I had to clue what it could be but this video is the exact same issue I was having.
Thanks! I had the same failure this past week...
Awesome bro, that is exactly what I needed to know..... I. Have a 92 foxbody & I knew it was that hose that kinda brittles apart, but the a/c place wants $300 to fix what you just showed to be a $5 fix! Thx so much bro
Thanks. I know this will come in handy in the future. Great vid
THANKS!!!!!! This helped I havet hooked up those hose yet but I know there is lost suction and now i know where it is!!!! GREAT VID!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, just saved me and most importantly my customer diagnostic time.Problem solved.
Great Video helps a lot cause mine has no vacuum line since the guy i got it from did the AC delete on it , but now I want to install the AC back in my problem is the fan doesn't work but i cant find the dam thing. To even check if the motor is connected.
i have a 1994 ford mustang GT, only the defrosterd and floor vents would work. but warm air only.
after watching this video and locating the problem under the hood...it was exactly how you said it. thanks man!
now women will stop complaining how hot it is in my car haha
I think I have found the solution to my problem thanks to this video thanks man because I need my ac
thank you sir you helped me a lot!😉
Wow brother, great fix. Cars been sitting for over 5 years and am putting it back to health. Many issues more to tackle but this one was a simple straight fix thanks to you! Again Thank you for sharing your insight.
I just wanna say thanks to your video my ac is back to cold 🥶 lol thanks man
I have a 97 mustang and sure enough my hose wasn't connected to the ac port after seeing this it really helped
Hey I have a 96 and have the same problem. Do you mind sharing some info on how to fix
Not able to find replacement hose. Most autoparts stores sell parts to build your own hose. I repaired the one I had. Works magnificently! Now just need to charge the a/c. Next project.
Thanks man, this fixed my problem!
so behide your dash on the controllers vacuum lines there's a black line with a yellow strip where dose it hook up at
I wonder if this is the issue in 89? It only comes out of the defrost and when I am shifting gears my car does not idle down like it should, sometimes it actually idles up like it has a vacuum leak. I thought maybe it was the Engle cam but maybe it is a vacuum leak.
Awesome video made my life easier
Nice! im gonna check that line on my SVO
That did the trick! Thanks so much.
My 90' GT 5.0 a/c blows through the vents when going down the road but when you press gas pedal down to pick up speed the a/c then starts blowing through the defrost vents until you get off the gas pedal and stay at a cruising speed.. Any solutions to my problem?? And what is the name of the piece that looks like a vacuum fitting that is on the passenger side that you connected the clear hose to???
Thanks a lot! This fixed my problem
thaaaaaank you sir... it was exact same problem and exact same fix
That second vacuum block that the two hoses come off of. Could you tell me where the one closest to the passenger fender runs to?
would this work for a 1994 mustang?
Please answer this do you think the reason it’s not working is cause the line that goes to it is to small cause the black line I have is like thin thin would you suggest getting a bigger one
Thank you for this vid!
I've got a 90GT and I have the same problem sometimes it comes out the vent sometimes defrost I'll try that right now!!
those two other small lines on the distribution, where do those go to?
Same problem on my mustang thanks for the vid beats spend a couple hundred dollars for something so simple
wow...I popped my hood and there it was...the damn vacume line broke...that brittle plastic stuff..just pried the old piece out of the boot thing and pushed the line back into the boot and connected the line back up...now the vents work again... Thanks
you're a Genius Bro
Love the 87 gt t top
What is that hose called
This is the exact issue I was having. Is this easy to replace?
0n my 1993 mustang gt 5.0 , my a/c is coming out heater vents
Anyone have a link to replace this hose?
so dizzy, great video though. Time to look into it. THANKS!
What about on a 96 gt
great video thanks
you are the best God has made to send you to my phone. If you only knew the bullshit that happened to me and my car. This video kept me from slapping a scamming ass mechanic. You don't even want to hear this story. Thank you very much. God bless you. I'm sending that mechanic to hell.
I have a 1994 gt 5.0, job well done bro. That was the exact problem I had and help me 100%
Thanks I fix my the problem on my car
I have the same problem with my 83 Monte Carlo but I can hear a hissing behind my controls...Really do not want to take that shit apart.
my line broke at the firewall =[ kinda hard to get to...
I have a 2004 GT that's having this problem, does anyone know if this solution works on the later models?
I have a 96 GT Convertible. I just changed the engine and transmission out, got the air to function but had this same problem. There is a small black vacuum line coming thru the firewall into the engine compartment near the air conditioning connections on the passenger side. This connects to the vacuum lines in the top of the engine, (mine are red). This line had broke and was very brittle. I put a hose over it that was just large enough for the existing hose to pass thru. I had some sealing putty that I used on each end and my problem was fixed. Not sure how difficult it would be to replace the brittle hose. Hope this helps if you do not have it fixed yet. Good luck, I used youtube to research all of the work I did to my car. Had never done extensive mechanic work like this before. Lots of good information, like this fellow that helped me find my problem.
+Blaine Hall Thanks, your comment was a huge help, but sadly not what my problem is. i checked all the vacuum lines under the hood and they are all in great shape, so I'm assuming that my problem is behind the dashboard. i was almost positive that I would have found the problem under the hood, i thought maybe something like a cat or a squirrel might have broken it. what's frustrating is that the car only has 15k miles on it, it's practically a new car still.
Man I gotta try this. I was thinking I'd have to put apart the whole dash...
How did that work out for you just curious
@@LuisSilva-eq9qf that was my issue! Saved me so much time and haven't had an issue since!
I have a Ford Mustang 2008 v6, but I can't find that tube. Help!!!
Same with my 2005. Did you ever find it?
@@StevesCraziness no, I have to take it to a mechanic. 😢
My vac lines are intact but it will only blow through the defrost vent, I am thinking its the switch, but idk what the piece is called. great vid btw !!
thank you
I had the same problem on my 94....
graciassssss thank uuuuuuuuuu amigo
dam, all I did was bring the blower motor housing down so I could have more access to my ecu then when I put the ecu back in and reinstalled the blower housing I turned the fan on a/c on every setting it came out of the defrost vent.
yo thanks man ill try that out right now cause i hav the same prob on mine
