I can’t believe I was able to watch a really helpful cleaning video in which the person did not blather on and on and endlessly on! This guy is great. A Very good teacher!
I thought exactly the same thing! I dislike videos where the person insists on telling us their life story before finally getting to the content we came to get. This video was a breath of fresh air in that regard, and the Rain-x idea is tremendous. I am heading out to buy these materials today so I can clean my shower stall glass.
Incidentally, I followed his instructions and it worked perfectly. I used Rain-X after cleaning, and the results are amazing. We have had zero issues with soap scum or hard water build-up on our glass shower stall. We squeegie at the end of each shower and the stall looks as though it was just freshly cleaned. I'll be reapplying Rain-X periodically to make sure it keeps repelling water. This video was the most useful thing I've watched on RUclips in months. Thanks again for making it!
I put about 2 tablespoons of JetDry (dishwasher anti-spotting fluid) into a quart size spray bottle filled with distilled water. After showering, I lightly spray glass and metal fixtures. I haven’t used my squeegee since doing that. It gradually even cleans off the old water spots. Super easy and very effective. No scrubbing or wiping down. The JetDry makes the water run off and it drys with no spotting.
@@mooncake5579 Even if you don’t clean the glass first, you will notice that the water spots start noticeably going away the first time you use it. Once the glass is clear, I find that I only need to spray it about once every 3 showers.
I use it just like that as well when I clean my aluminum blinds. I mount them on a piece of plywood in the backyard and after a light scrub, I apply the jet dry spray. They dry in minutes.
The 6X vinigar was $ 21 a gallon. I told myself this better work, i used 0000 steel wool, built up soap, and hard water. I was amazed yes, let vinegar set 3 minutes to do the work hardle had to clean it off , no hard elbow grease needed easy clean now my shiwers look like they were installed yesterday, Big Thanks
I followed these steps and bought the exact same steel wool. My shower doors look like new! I had attempted to clean off soap scums using store bought cleaner and didn’t work. Then I attempted scrubbing them with a mixture of vinegar & detergent… didn’t work. Now I tried your method with just spraying only white vinegar and made a big difference. Then topped it off with the steel wool and Ive never seen my shower doors this clean. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO.
I did this today. Lowes has the 4 X category steel wool. And most grocery store have the “cleaning vinegar” Only one small area needed a second application. It was a huge improvement. I did just what he said to do- even with the Rain X. Wear a mask. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
That's how I did it in the beginning, I wiped down the doors with steel wool, now every time anyone takes a shower, I dry the doors off with a towl so no more water spots.
Wow, thank you! This actually worked. I had tried lots of things before trying this. I know nothing about cleaning, so I was piling up stinky products, assuming they would work, but they did not. I scrubbed to exhaustion, I might add, surrounded by horrible chemicals. We canceled the maid service about two years ago, and since then, our glass shower door has gotten a gross water film big time; I am not motivated enough to deal with it because it seems so onerous. I had more or less given up, but today, I said, why not try again. Naturally, I thought this would not work; it was too cheap, simple, and no hard scrubbing. But it totally worked on my shower. Now that I see how easy this is, I can easily clean it. Thank you for the simple tip and short, simple video.
I find that wiping my glass doors after each shower also helps with the back up. I use a mixture of vinegar and water as a spray as well. Then every few minutes I use a razor blade in a bix cutter to gently scrape the areas with any scum build up. This has worked for me. I never thought of steel wool or rain-X. What a great tip!
Applying rain-x would be hard work and a bit dangerous putting enough pressure on glass doors to buff of the rain-z once it dries. Someone suggested 2 tablespoons jet-dry in a quart of distilled water, sprayed on after showering, no squeegee needed.
Just tried today and it works. The vinegar alone could remove most of the soap scum of the shower glass and I used window cleaner one more time. There are some other YTbers advising to add dish detergent to the vinegar but I dont see it necessary. Very helpful video.

Thank you for this video! So glad I found it! It was very precise and straight forward. May I ask for tips on how to clean the shower door strips/seal that are located on the side where the glass door attaches to the wall? I have glass shower doors and they have not been a lot of work, due to two things: I do not use deodorant soap. Deodorant soaps are loaded with wax, which causes the soap scum to stick (like glue) to everything. Second, I keep a spray bottle of undiluted cleaning vinegar in the shower. About 3 times a week, after I shower and while the water drops are still on the glass, I spray the glass with the vinegar and squeegee. That's all I have to do to keep the glass looking pristine. I see a comment here that ronaldkelley uses JetDry dishwasher anti spot and does not have to squeegee at all and his glass doesn't have water spots. I'm all for finding a way to get out of even squeegeeing so I'm going to try his tip!
This worked great. I had exterior ground level windows that had developed some kind of film. Neither vinegar or ammonia were working. The trick was to use the wet 0000 steel wool and wipe several passes while keeping the window wet. Each window took about 3 minutes after that. Thanks.
I like that rain X idea. Definitely going to try that after I get my shower doors cleaned. But they’re putting up a fight. I’m cleaning a house that has not seriously clean their shower doors for 25 years. And the hard water stains that I’ve built up have created a solid shade of white over the whole glass. I’ve been using 75% vinegar soaked on paper towels to let it sit and leave it. It’s gotten most of it off but it’s taking me three days so far just to get all of that off it’s just layer after layer. But I’m definitely gonna keep plugging away at it. It’s worth it.
Man, this procedure is amazing. I honestly didn’t think it would work just like everything else I have tried, but it did. How do you clean ceramic tile. Mine has a glassy texture and I don’t feel like I have ever cut all of the soap scum off.ceramic
I tried this method in a house that we rent out for 6 months each year. Obviously, renters don't have the same motivation to squeegee as I do. While it's better, the water spots are still visible. I will keep trying and hoping that it improves a little bit with each effort.

We have hard water in Vermont, I have a spray bottle with dawn and vinegar under the sink ready, i only use Mr Clean Magic eraser and like new. Thanks for the rainex tip I’ll try that or jet dry like some mentioned.
I have a shower glass that is coated with some special hydrophobic/oleophobic coating. I had always squeegeed the glass once a week which was always all that was needed. I hadn’t live there in months while another family member lived there and they did zero cleaning on the glass. Unfortunately the water spots won’t go away with any method not using steel wool. Would the steel wool be able to remove the water spots without damaging the coating?
The method I have been using for years taking a flat blade at a 20 degree angle and just go through the glass, and use a good scum remover to finish it Also works on sinks, stove tops and kitchen countertops to keep them clean
Clr in spray bottle once every few months, knocks off any build up. Put a little extra into a wide cup and soak shower head, cleans out the jets. Use squeegee after shower is the #1 thing to prevent spots.
Be careful when you choose your shower doors ! We have a specific coating on the inside that doesn't allow limescale to form, just a wipe with a microfiber cloth after each shower and never had any spots or stains.
Question is: How do you clean these coating clear glass doors when after 10yrs the coating begins to show soap scum or could be from our house keeper using the wrong chemicals to clean the doors and they have become spotted. Anyway to reverse this issue? Thanks
@@adamcopper-localgoogleguide I really don't know. We have them only since one year as we renovated one of our bathrooms. We just rinse and wipe after each shower that's all. We too do have a cleaning lady, she uses a kind of anti calc sanitizer each week in the whole shower cabin.
I haven’t cleaned shower doors in 30 years and mine are super clean. Here’s how : I leave a hand towel hanging over the shower door all the time. After each shower wipe down the inside of the shower, it takes 15 seconds and you will never have a dirty shower door.🎤
I do the same but I use a Chamois Leather cloth first, this way most of the water is squeezed down the drain and the towel is almost dry when I am finished. Glass shower still looks new after many years. Also I don't hang a damp towel in the bathroom, I put it out to dry first, I think this cuts down on mildew in the bathroom. I live in a very humid climate.
All good. Thank you My tip is from new. We always spray down the glass with water then squigy the glass top to bottom and wipe water off tiles with a towel you've dried yourself (stops grout getting mold) Every shower Only takes a minute. No scrubbing ever 😊🚿
Great video. What if the glass is etched from yers of hard water buildup? Will the steel wool work? I have marble, so vinegar is probably not a good idea.
@@cwald3278 repel new stains once you get it clean, it really helps on glass and ceramic tile as well, you only need about a teaspoon of jet dry to a litre of water.
Thanks for the video. I purchased all the products mentioned & went through the steps. Unfortunately, the water marks on the shower have been there for too long, so it looks like I’ll need something more heavy duty to get rid of them.
@@dovi1342 Yeah I thought it worked after scrubbing with the steel wool, but as soon as I applied the Rain-X, the old water marks appeared. It does look a bit better though. A 2nd shower that hardly gets used is like new now though & it’ll stay that way. Cleaned both sides of the glass with vinegar too - surprised by the invisible film of grime that appeared there, but now it’s gone 👍🏼

Just did the whole process thx it worked great.
Excellent video…no fluff no nonsense! Thank you!

Do you happen to have a link to the squeegee you used?
No ma'am I sure don't. You can buy good ones at Lowes or Home Depot though 🙂
I have only had to use vinegar but will reassess when dry. I bought the s/w just in case. Good advice here,
Just the information I was looking for - thank you.
you are welcome!
Great tips and not a lot of cost either. Thank you for this great information.
Happy to help
Great tips 👌 thanks for sharing great videos
you are welcome
Awesome tip with the steel wool!!
It may be my favorite cleaning hack of all time!!
Thank you!!! I have the same shower doors and I have a hard time keeping them clean.
you are welcome!
Great tips. How would you recommend removing something called efflorescence from tile grout?
I haven’t cleaned shower doors in 30 years and mine are super clean.
Here’s how : I leave a hand towel hanging over the shower door all the time. After each shower wipe down the inside of the shower, it takes 15 seconds and you will never have a dirty shower door.🎤
I do the same, but I wipe down the entire shower with a spare bath towel.
I agree and have been doing the same for 10 years: no stains.
I live in a very humid climate.
simple and effective - no regular cleaning needed.... maybe once a year a deep clean
That also works for me. I just use the E-Cloth for glass for those super cleaning times.
All good. Thank you
My tip is from new. We always spray down the glass with water then squigy the glass top to bottom and wipe water off tiles with a towel you've dried yourself (stops grout getting mold)
Every shower Only takes a minute. No scrubbing ever 😊🚿
Wow it worked amazing for me!! Thanks
Happy to help!
Do you think the method can be used on tiles in the shower as well?
Do you allow the glass the dry before you spray the Rain X?
I live in a hard water state. Try any dishwashing pods. I use 2 . Works miracles
What do you do with the pods?
Great video. What if the glass is etched from yers of hard water buildup? Will the steel wool work? I have marble, so vinegar is probably not a good idea.
That is correct, if the glass is etched it will be permanent.
You can also use dishwasher jet dry in a spray bottle filled with water and just a squirt or two of jet dry.
Use this for what? To remove calcium or to repeal new water stains?
@@cwald3278 repel new stains once you get it clean, it really helps on glass and ceramic tile as well, you only need about a teaspoon of jet dry to a litre of water.
great tip with the rain x
Glad you found the video valuable🙂
Top advice. I have tiles as well and would like to know how I do the same - even just weekly.
Thanks for the video. I purchased all the products mentioned & went through the steps.
Unfortunately, the water marks on the shower have been there for too long, so it looks like I’ll need something more heavy duty to get rid of them.
Same here.. Just sotting now frustrated.. Not even a bit better.. Looks nice while its wet and as soon as wipe dry all stains reappear.. :(
@@dovi1342 Yeah I thought it worked after scrubbing with the steel wool, but as soon as I applied the Rain-X, the old water marks appeared. It does look a bit better though. A 2nd shower that hardly gets used is like new now though & it’ll stay that way. Cleaned both sides of the glass with vinegar too - surprised by the invisible film of grime that appeared there, but now it’s gone 👍🏼
Im trying dish soap + vinegar 1:1
If not will have to order some heavy duty cleaner before rainx.
@@dovi1342 I was going to try a paste from an industrial cleaning retailer not far from me. It’s not cheap though, so I’m hesitating because of all the failed attempts thus far & don’t want to waste more money…
I saw so on amazon, not to expensive so will try that if this fails :D after that - im giving up :D
Adding Dawn dish soap helps the vinegar stay where you put it.
Between the cleaning, what is helpful for me anyway, is I bought a squeegee from the dollar tree it helps alot because the hard water doesn't stick after that but this video is good for cleaning it
Can you make a video for removing mold that grows in the clear caulk ?
If the mold is in or under the caulking you cant remove it. You have to strip it out and redo it basically 👍
For soap scum I found using a few dryer sheets works super-fast at cutting through it.
Hi, would that be new or used dryer sheets,
