There were 82,000 people at this concert and everyone was on fire! This is a song from their album "Once" and it is on of their most popular. Marko has sung this song with all three of the female lead singers. This version is something special, though. Hmmmm, that would be something kind of fun. React to all three lead singer's versions, not to contrast and compare them, however, but to see how Marko has evolved in his vocals on this song. Don't stick too closely to this concert, though. There are other concerts, with different songs and it would be a shame to remain too focussed on this particular concert. The End of an Era concert DVD has lots of great songs, as do the concerts from Wembley and Tempere and the 2018 Buenos Aires is a wonderful compilation of songs from their earliest beginnings to present day.

Ditto! I actually discovered NW when I came on RUclips shortly after Neil Peart's death to see what was being said. I discovered reaction channels by first watching the Kel N' Rich channel ( I sure miss them!) ...they did Ghost Love Score (the live Wacken version) and I was instantly HOOKED on NW, especially with Floor.

Same! Rush was the soundtrack of my youth. I still *love* their music!!! However, I recently told my brother and sister the mighty Rush had been supplanted by Nightwish as my new all-time favorite…and they said “BLASPHEMY!!!!” 😂
Wacken Open Air (2013).....
82,000+ people witnessed this absolutely flawless concert and experienced Floor Jansen with Nightwish for the very first time since it was only 10 months after her debut in Seattle, Washington on October 1st 2012.
Wacken was also Floor's biggest show ever at that time. ❤
After the opener "Dark Chest Of Wonders" they played this song. Wacken 2013 was on fire because of the Nightwish show. I miss this song, because it became one of my favourites. But "End Of All Hope" with Floor and Marko together, is a little bit better than this. I think "End Of All Hope" is the song that I miss the most. Nightwish with Marko stays amazing forever and ever. ❤ 82.000 people were at Wacken.

The history doesn't matter, except to fully understand "The Poet & The Pendulum," or maybe "Master Passion Greed." You've really zeroed in on the two greatest bands as far as composing and chemistry is concerned. They are all GREAT people.

This one and BLESS THE CHILD caused me to become Nightwish fan.... and it was 2006.
This song has one of my favorite, and most bad-ass, lyric lines ever:

Yesterday I visit Floor’s soloshow. What a contrast between the soft songs of Floor and her appearance on Nightwish. Both great. Floor said she regret that NW has no liveconcerts in 2025.. About two weeks the new album. I hope one day to hear Floor's voice more than in the first two songs that have already been released. And....that Emppu's guitar can be heard clearly. I'm curious.

Wachen 2013 has to be one of the legendary concerts of all time. The band was on fire and every song was off the charts. Marko and Floor together were a match made in heaven. They just fit. I read once Marko said when Floor joined the band he no longer had to hold his vocal power back. He wasn't knockin' Tarja or Anette at all, he was saying Floor has so much power he could belt his own power with her. Damn they were good together.
Strange comment from MH. Turunen had/has power by the bucket load. And he often drowns out Floor Jansen. He does here, around the seven minute mark.
Great reaction RED! This band is easily one of my favorites of modern times. Every musician is a master of their craft. I had the luck of seeing them in Finland on one of my vacations. F. Jansen is my favorite of the female leads they have had. But ALL female leads have been incredible. Check out their version of Phantom Of The Opera. You'll love it I'm sure. Many listen to the full Wacken concert. But for me the Vehicle of spirit tour is definitely my favourite becouse of the setlists and many, many good recordings all over the world❣️

It's such a shame that the Floor/Marko combo is no more after Marko left the band. Their chemistry and their contrast of vocal sounds was just so good. Great idea to just work through this concert. 🔥

According to Tuomas: "I was there with my girlfriend at the time, and all these guys kept hitting on her. Even people I knew - guys who were certainly aware that we were dating - tried to chat her up. There was a full-scale hookup going on on the dance floor. The line ‘wish I had an angel’ just slammed into my head. I thought it was so corny that it might even work. In a way, the dance beat conveys the setting of the song, and is an essential part of what that song’s about. Lyrically, it’s the most down-to-earth, redneck, truck-stop song I’ve ever written."

Tuomas wrote this song after a nightout with his girlfriend. All his freinds and others kept hitting on his date while he was right there.

I have done security at a few concerts, we have to catch the crowd surfers when they finally make it to the front. Had to catch a guy in a wheelchair at a Metallica concert. He was lovin it.

Unique song. Nightwish was asked to write a song to serve as the theme for a TV show. The TV show never got run. The song became famous from the time Tarja sang it through Floor singing it. You should watch the music video that the band did (the one without the TV show scenes). As for the band, the firing of Tarja came with a huge public attack on Tuomas. The idea of publishing the letter given to Tarja was very bad PR. It was seen as an attempt to preemptively humiliate her and her husband. She was leaving the band in a year - when her contract was up. Would have been simpler to buy out her contract, hold a joint press conference and shake hands and move on. Tarja's firing and the publication of the letter had difficult effects and resulted in four songs (three from NW, one from Tarja's band - specifically Tarja). Read the translated open letter from the band to Tarja that was released to the public (bad idea). Then watch Tarja's press conference. One song was written to target Tarja's husband (someone the band came to hate as you'll see in the open letter). That song was sung by Marko alone, was never performed live or in a video. The song was "Master, Passion, Greed" and only exists as a lyric video. The song is angry, like no other NW song really is. More than "Slaying the Dreamer" aimed at the label for trying to make the music the label wanted instead of what NW wanted. More than "Your is an Empty Hope" aimed at critics of NW. MPG spills venom at Tarja's husband, and this was perhaps why Tarja wouldn't speak to the band for over a decade. The next song, sung by Anette Olzon and Marko, "Bye, Bye, Beautiful" was aimed directly at Tarja. Tarja's song was called "Enough" and was aimed at NW, mostly at Tuomas. Tuomas wrote a song that described the depression/pain he felt after firing Tarja and so many feeling of being the person that the backlash most affected. Many friends turned their backs on him. One of those friends was a member of the Finnish Parliament who publicly denounced Tuomas. The thought of suicide crossed his mind. However, family encouraged him to do what he does best - write a song. The result was "The Poet and the Pendulum". It was not an easy song. It is an emotional roller coaster. Before a concert where Anette was to perform, she found out she had lost a custody battle. During this song, she broke and ran screaming "sorry" from the stage. Floor and Marko do this song justice. It oozes pain and torment. As you listen to it with Floor singing, you might very well want tissues. Timing in this song is critical. He mentions he has three minutes before death. From that mark +3 minutes, you see Tuomas swing his hand across his throat like a pendulum blade, and hear his heartbeat fade. There are whispers at the beginning signifying mental illness. These are not the only hard moments. At the same time, this song is inspirational. You realize that it can and usually does get better. These NW songs were on the same record - Dark Passion Play. On the next album they were better in some ways, but trouble was brewing with Anette. However, before she was fired (less publicly) a NW movie was made. The movie was called "Imaginaerum". Interestingly, some songs from early NW aren't seen much anymore. The songs can be heard on YT, but there was no video made at concerts (that was very expensive, especially then). However, if you want a sonic view from the past, I like the song "Nightquest". Great video.

I want to add to your "prattling on" at the beginning, not only are the composition, intelligent music, time signatures and fantasy base and all that, but there is also the chemistry between the bandmembers on (and off) stage that creates the "epic feeling" when they perform.. this might be one of the big reasons why Nightwish music feels "better" live than on records...

The only reason to get into the dirt about why Tarja (the first singer) was let go is to have a deeper understanding of "The Poet and the Pendulum". That said, I have seen several reactors who easily picked up on the emotions without having done any research.
Dear Red, you just might consider doing one of the absolute masterpieces from Nightwish.
When Floor joined Nightwish, Tuomas realized, that he would never have any limitations in his writing and composing any more. Floor would be able to tell his story no matter what - and tell it better than he could imagine also.
Therefore - on the first Nightwish album with songs written to Floor's skills - the song 'The Greatest Show on Earth ' - that one you should really consider seriously....
The Tampere 2015 is the most spectacular because it is outside with syncronized fireworks - Floor using the catwalk into the crowd (22.000).
Or the Wembley version - indoor and half the size (12.500) - but Richard Dawkins on stage at the end....
I prefer Tampere - but...(I were on both) - 22 minutes..
Remember to stay on until the video is completely finished because the ending is an important part of the song!!!

If you're looking for chemistry between Marco and Floor try 'Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean' in Buenos Aires, 2018. Floor is a mermaid and Marco the Devil trying to seduce her. It travels at 1000mph from the first bar, never stops and you'll see and hear things you won't believe.

Enjoyed your reaction! Although I usually prefer Floor's performances this is one where I prefer Tarja's performance. Floor is it killing it but Tarja's dark, witchy classical voice fits the song better IMO. Check out the official music video or her performance from the End of an Era concert. I love her Finnish accent in this song which make it feel even more evil. According to the Nightwish biography Once Upon a Nightwish, the song was inspired by an evening Tuomas had at a bar with his then girlfriend. All the guys there kept hitting on her. Even those that knew him personally and that they were dating. It really pissed him off and he wrote this song as a result. The line Wish I had an Angel just popped into his head and he thought it was so corny that it might work. He called this song his most down-to-earth, redneck, truck-stop song he has ever written.
The two who were helped out by the security seemed to me to be a bit dehydrated. A risk that is often underestimated. Personally, I always need 2-3 liters of water after a concert.
