I would just drop by the office and ask in person, things can get lost in the mail, although I hope that's not the case! Normally it shouldn't take that long. In any case, make sure you follow up quickly to get that SIN! All the best!
Great video! I have a quick follow-up: Is proof of address necessary if we apply in person? We won't have any proof of address during our first week of arrival :(
It's been a while since I've requested a SIN in person, but I believe that proof of address is just for online applications, as the SIN document will be mailed to you. If you go in person you'll get your SIN on the spot. Hey, I love your video.. I have a question.. I got my ecopr and I applied for my SIN online like you showed... The CRA login website now says that I will get a security code in the mail.. Do you know how long will this security code take to come? And can I get it by calling CRA too??
I am not sure how long it takes, and I don't remember the part with the security code, unfortunately. But as far as I remember the whole process only took a few weeks (until I received my SIN in the mailbox). When in doubt, yes try and ask them for clarification. Hope you get it soon!
I had a temporary sin and got my new sin after PR. Now, should I update this on my cra account for taxes? I updated my new sin to banks and my employer.
When I first arrived I did it in person. But I believe that you can do it online as well, at least I can see the option presented when going on the website!

If you have concerns about it getting lost, then I would go and get the SIN in person.

Usually you can apply for a SIN card in Canada, if you are citizen, PR, or have a work or student permit.
