When you go to one, I'm sure they'd be able to help you with getting digital scans 🙂 You can also try developing and scanning on your own if you're brave. There are many tutorials out here on youtube if you search "developing and scanning film at home." This is not beginner-friendly though...
The cameras remind me of the Olympus XA series cameras. Similar thumb winding and size. However the build and lens on the Olympus is superior, the XA is truly a mini rangefinder with all the features. Maybe if you find one you can review it ;) Btw you have a very soothing style, I enjoy it. Thx!
I love my XA! I'd cry if something happened to it, that's why I'm looking for something simpler and cheaper for situations where I'd be afraid to bring my other cameras.
Only when the subject is backlit, is in shadow, or during lowlight (overcast day, dawn/dusk). Also, keep in mind the flash only illuminates up to 3-ish meters
I just got mine and I have lots of questions in mind. 1. Is it okay to let the film stay inside the camera for a long time? Not getting it coz I haven't finished all the shots. 2. If it's outdoor and is too sunny, would you recommend not to use the flash? 3. What are the tips to get the better/best shots? Hope to hear your insights. Bdw, I love the shots ;)
1. I wouldn’t recommend leaving film out for a looong time, but a month or two should be ok. I’ve left mine for a year and it’s ok, but I left it in a cool and dry place. 2. Use the flash outside if your subject is backlit or in shadow, but really, it’s up to you 😅 3. I suggest learning the basics of composition but don’t be afraid to experiment to see what works for you or not
Hi! I'm new to analog cameras and I'm very confused. Should I turn the film advancing wheel every time I want to take a photo? And how much do I have to rotate it? until the counter changes the number? Please someone help me 😭 love your video and your channel!
You have to turn the film advance wheel before you can take a photo because that’s how the camera readies it’s shutter to fire for your next shot. You just have to turn it until it doesn’t turn anymore (you’ll feel a hard stop and then you won’t be able to turn it again until after you take a photo), this will also move the number to the next. It’s all gear mechanics ⚙️ Hope this helps!
After watching many reviews, I finally found you, thx! This is more interesting and easy to understand but i'm so confused to buy kodak m35 or m38? can you help me decide~ i mean both are good but i have to choose one
The only difference between the M35 and M38 is that the M38 has a brighter flash. I haven’t really tested how different they are because I don’t use the flash that much. If you don’t think you’ll be using the flash as often, then it’s ok to choose based on aesthetics 😂 which one sparks joy?
This video was super helpful, I just have one question. Do i have to advance the film everytime I want to take a picture or just the one time I set up the camera? Thank you!!
Which photo? I only use the flash if there’s low light, or if my subject’s in shadow or backlit. Sometimes, if I’m in doors and there’s a bright source of light, like a large window with lots of light, I won’t use it. But if you’re a beginner, I’d stick to using the flash in doors or try experimenting
I would say yes. Sometimes it might be bright enough that you can get away without it. You can check by getting a light meter app with settings set to aperture 11 and ISO 800. If the shutter speed shows lower than 120, then it’ll be underexposed so shoot with flash
The m38 is supposed to have a brighter flash and is a few grams heavier but tbh you can barely notice them haha they’re not that different imo I would recommend the m38 if you like using the flash more... But other than that, I’d recommend buying what you prefer appearance-wise (m35 is offered in pastel tones, for example)
@@Bonsees Thank you so so much!! I see, I'm really new in this and I don't know a lot. I also saw your video about the Dubblefilm SHOW, but it's currently out of my budget, so I think I'll get the m35 for the pastel tones hahah. Thank you again for the videos and the reply!! 💖💖
Thanks! I got most of these from eBay or the brand’s respective stores (like lomography.com and Dubblefilm.com) If you’re in NA, B&H (bhphotovideo.com) just started selling a bunch of these reusable cameras including the Ilford Sprite 😊
Hmm that might be a stretch if the concert is at night/dimly lit, it depends on how bright the stage lighting is (and if they allow flash, some venues don’t). I know some folks who’ve used black and white film (Ilford HP5) with a similar plastic camera and were able to take good photos of an evening concert with a bright stage without using flash. I’d suggest either using an ISO 800 film instead if you wanna stick to colour (Lomography 800 is a great one, and of course there’s Portra 800 but it’s expensive), or perhaps a black and white film like HP5 which might be better because you won’t have to worry about colours getting all murky with underexposure. Hope this helps
I was taught to only wind the film on when you are going to take a photo. Leaving the shutter cocked not only wastes a frame on the film, it tensions the spring inside and if left for a long time will lead to failure of the mechanism or shutter speeds different to what they should be.
Pretty much~ there are a few very subtle difference, like the gears on my Agfa rolls more smoothly than my F9 which feels gratey 😬 it could just be quality control though
@@Bonsees im thinking its more useful to buy an used camera (here we name it "soap bowl$" for analogue compact cameras) instead these new ones. If the old ones, lasted more than two decades, probably it will survive more time...
In bright sun, Gold 200 film may be a better choice. 400 speed film tends to overexpose the outdoor shots slightly. Just my opinion! Nice review video!
If you're measuring in sunny-16, 200 ISO will probably have the best exposure in bright sunlight, so you're on to something 😂 I'm just always at 400 'cause I'm paranoid and it's the "safest." Had a past experience of getting underexposed shots with the lomography simple use camera haha
@@Bonsees Understood! Yes 400 will work better for a variety of light conditions. All the best! You can also use Kodak 400TX for black & white shots. Try it and see how you like it! 👍
@@plestj I’ve actually used Tri-X a few times for street photography (with a “proper” Minolta slr and lens 😂) and I really like the contrast you can get from it. Though I think I still prefer colour over B&W haha

If you open the film door, the counter will reset to 0. So if you have to do that to respool the film into the camera, then you’ll have to start from 0
Hi! Thank you for these very informative videos! I’d like to get your opinion on which reusable camera is better between the m38 or the agfaphoto analogue one? Thank u :3
The M38 is supposed to have a brighter flash but I haven’t tested that against the Agfaphoto’s flash. They pretty much yield the same quality photos~ I think the real difference is on price and aesthetics. I personally prefer the Agfaphoto’s look, but I like them both 😄
I'd say the difference between the three is kinda negligible to me, at least... but it does seem like my Dubblefilm has the sharpest lens. Now that I think about it, I think I prefer my M35 to my M38. It seems to have less fringing on the corners.
Hi, I am really clueless rn and need some advice. 😅 I only shot with simple non reuseable cameras before and with those it wasn’t possible to turn the little wheel (i forgot the right word) to the next photo if the film is full. Is it the same with this (Kodak m38)? Because I kind of forgot what film I put in and are anxious that I’ll take pictures which can’t be processed later on. Thank you in advance. 😅💕
You should be fine. It’s sort of the same, the film rewind crank on these cameras just allows you to rewind the film back into the canister easily so you don’t have to break the camera in the dark room like what they have to do with disposable cameras. As long as the film is loaded correctly, I don’t see a reason why your film can’t be processed 😄
@@Bonsees Thank you very much for your incredible fast response, but I think I explained it misleadingly. 😅 I meant the „loading“ of a new photo or like the setting to shoot another one. When u turn the wheel thingy on the right top, does it also stop moving or like won’t allow you to „load“ to the next photo if the film is full or will it turn on and on?
@@alina8915 oooh like the film advance wheel. Yeah you have to keep turning it until it stops then you can take the next photo. If it keeps turning, the film probably didn’t catch on to the film take up spool 😄

Hi! Would you know if in checking the m38 point and shoot camera is actually working (without film), the shutter must “open” and “close” when shutter button is clicked? Because that’s what I watched in some videos but the model is the m35 and the other one is an Olympus. So I’m wondering if it’s same with m38?
If you don’t have film inside the M35 or M38, the film advance wheel won’t cock the shutter so it will not fire (the shutter will not open and close) if you press the shutter button. What you can do is trick the camera by turning the sprocket gear inside the camera back while turning the feel advance wheel (turn them in the same direction), and it should cock the shutter. It’s a bit complicated but lemme know if you need more directions
Hey! Newbie to film here and have been checking out your videos! I noticed that you also reviewed the the lomography simple use camera in another video too. Just wondering how you’d compare the simple use camera and the Kodak m38 in terms of the kinds of photos you get? Been meaning to get one of the two but am pretty torn. Some tips in deciding would be great! :)
Maybe this video will give you an idea ruclips.net/video/DK65rXpLQW0/видео.html If I were shown two photos taken with either cameras, I probably won’t be able to tell which camera was used to take which. Maybe my M35 and SHOW camera produce slightly sharper images, but that could also be because of the film. So I just tell people to choose based on the camera aesthetics/ergonomics/price. The Lomography simple use is still the cheapest (at least here in Alberta, Canada) and the smallest, but it’s also the hardest to reload. The Kodak cameras are easier to load with film and comes in a lot more colours.
In my humble opinion the simple use camera is far from that. It feels cheap. Returned mine in the end and bought an Olympus "Shoot n go" for less money on ebay and bought a corker.
For 35mm colour, I usually go to a local drugstore with a photo lab (London Drugs) they’re pretty good. For B&W and medium format, I usually process myself at home. Sometimes, I’ll send my medium format film to Downtown Camera in Toronto for development and scanning
Adriel! What are you using to film yourself? Is that a flying camera?😂😂 Also just started following your film insta page. It’s absolutely stunning and beautiful!
Hi, i have a problem with my m38. The numbers on the counter was suddenly jumbled like from 14 it became 10 after i took a shot. Can u help me with this? Thanks in advance:)
And i think that i already used all the shots because i cant no longer spin the wind button but the counter shows 's' instead of 'e'. Is the film was damaged or what? Huhu i hope u can help me with this.
@@wcyzabc6496 hmm S means you’re back to the beginning of the counter (start) and that usually happens when you open the back door. Did you accidentally open the back? Also, how many exposures did your film have? Some films only have 24 exposures and the film counter of the M38 goes from S to 36 (it shouldn’t have an E counter), so you could reach the end of the roll before the actual end of the counter. You might have pulled the film out of the cartridge in this case, which caused the film to lose tension with the camera. Try to rewind the film and see if you can rewind it, if you can’t and there’s no tension, it might be best to go to a photo lab that develops film and tell them what happened so they could open the camera in the dark and not ruin your film inside, just in case.
Hello! Hear me out. I accidentally pressed the release/rewind button of my Kodak M38. What should I do? Can I still take pictures with it? Send help!!😭😭😭
Just move the wheel advanced forward to the next frame (or take a photo first then advance if you can’t move the wheel) this will disengage the rewind button You might have some overlap in two frames but you should be fine 😌
@@Bonsees omg thank you for the reply. However, does the m38 is really like this? I compared it my fuji dispocam, that one has easy gliding reel. But in my kodak m38, the reel is somehow hard to glide and really needs pressure to spin? Is it normal?
@@kayenaps6145 hm you shouldn’t have to put as much pressure to turn the film advance wheel, it should pretty smooth. Is it always like that, might be a defect 😔
@@kayenaps6145 no worries, it could also be that the film is a bit stuck. Finish the roll and see if you can turn the film advanced wheel easier without the film. Part of why I like the Dubblefilm show camera over the M38 is that they do a quality check and film test their cameras before shipping them, so you have a bit more guarantee that they’ll work. But they’re pretty much the same camera. Good luck!
Do you have to wind it before every shot? What happens if you forgot to wind before you take another shot? Or is there a way to know that a certain shot is already exposed?
Yeah you have to use the film advance before taking a picture. If you don’t, the shutter won’t fire. If you tried taking a photo and the shutter doesn’t fire, that means the photo’s already exposed

@@Bonsees thank you! I ordered mine today, can't wait to take photos with it

between dubblefilm show and the kodak cameras, which take the better pictures in your opinion?
I'd say the difference between the three is kinda negligible to me, at least... but it does seem like my Dubblefilm has the sharpest lens. Now that I think about it, I think I prefer my M35 to my M38. It seems to have less fringing on the corners.
which one better between kodak m35 or kodak m38????? please give a reason..... thank you so much if you answer my question.
There isn’t much difference between those two aside from the M38 having a brighter flash. Both will get you the same image quality
@@Bonsees thank you so much for answer my question. and now i choose to buy m38 xixiixi. have a nice day. :)

Hi, I am really clueless rn and need some advice. 😅 I only shot with simple non reuseable cameras before and with those it wasn’t possible to turn the little wheel (i forgot the right word) to the next photo if the film is full.
Is it the same with this
(Kodak m38)?
Does it only take a landscape photo? how can I take a portrait photo?
you can turn the camera on its side to take a portrait photo
University 😋🙌🏼😁
I didn’t go to the lab 😂
how do you export the photo from film?
do you use flash when you was outdoor?
If it’s sunny I usually don’t use the flash. It’s only good within 3 meters. I’d use it if it’s cloudy, if my subject is backlit or in shadow
Maybe this video will give you an idea ruclips.net/video/DK65rXpLQW0/видео.html
If I were shown two photos taken with either cameras, I probably won’t be able to tell which camera was used to take which.
@@Bonsees Thank you so much for sharing your insights! Your videos have been a big help! :)
@@denebsan glad to help! ☺️
In my humble opinion the simple use camera is far from that. It feels cheap. Returned mine in the end and bought an Olympus "Shoot n go" for less money on ebay and bought a corker.
Where do you usually get your film processed?
For 35mm colour, I usually go to a local drugstore with a photo lab (London Drugs) they’re pretty good. For B&W and medium format, I usually process myself at home. Sometimes, I’ll send my medium format film to Downtown Camera in Toronto for development and scanning
Adriel! What are you using to film yourself? Is that a flying camera?😂😂 Also just started following your film insta page. It’s absolutely stunning and beautiful!
Ah thanks! Haha and yes, I have a drone following me around lol JK, I use the Insta360 One X2. It’s pretty cool imo 😊
@@Bonsees 😂 Thank you for your reply. I’m binge watching your videos right now~ loving it!!!💕
Super nice!!!!!!!!!
Thanks 😊
where is the counter for the photos on the top bottom or side or something
On the top, next to the shutter release button
what will happen if you accidentally press the rewind button while shooting?
Not much, just take the photo and move the film advance wheel and it should pop out. But you might get a bit of a frame overlap with two photos
Just move the wheel advanced forward to the next frame (or take a photo first then advance if you can’t move the wheel) this will disengage the rewind button
You might have some overlap in two frames but you should be fine 😌
@@Bonsees omg thank you for the reply. However, does the m38 is really like this? I compared it my fuji dispocam, that one has easy gliding reel. But in my kodak m38, the reel is somehow hard to glide and really needs pressure to spin? Is it normal?
@@kayenaps6145 hm you shouldn’t have to put as much pressure to turn the film advance wheel, it should pretty smooth. Is it always like that, might be a defect 😔
@@Bonsees huhuhuhu what a waste😭 anyways, thanks for answering!
Good luck!
How do you convert them digitally ?:)
I get my lab to develop and scan them for me (or do it myself)
Do you have to wind it before every shot? What happens if you forgot to wind before you take another shot? Or is there a way to know that a certain shot is already exposed?
Yeah you have to use the film advance before taking a picture. If you don’t, the shutter won’t fire. If you tried taking a photo and the shutter doesn’t fire, that means the photo’s already exposed
@@Bonsees thanks so much!!! Appreciate it!
I am so stupid. So you need to wind it before taking photo 😅 I thought I loaded my film wrong 😢😅😂
Hey, you’re smart enough to look for tutorials instead 😉
