There’s a way to test this without film too, open the back door and advance the film advance wheel like how you normally do but at the same time, also advance the gear where the film sprocket goes just a bit below the film advance wheel. This should trick the camera that there’s film inside and will cock the shutter. 2) Weak battery? Try replacing it. This also means the red light is very slow to turn on. Hopefully these helps. Try winding the film advance wheel until it stops and you can't wind anymore. The flash will only work if the shutter has been cocked 😊 Hope this helps
In paper, the M38 has a brighter flash, so if you think you’ll be using the flash a lot, then maybe it’s worth getting the M38. Otherwise, the difference between the two is mostly just aesthetic
Hi I am a beginner user of the same film camera. I am currently using the same film. I have gotten the result of my films but most of them are covered with fingers and dark. When should we use the flash? Why are there fingers in my shots when i clearly put my fingers away. Please help. Thank you
Use the flash in-doors, during cloudy days, after sunset, in shadow or back lit. The fingers are ghosts 👻 jk The lens of this camera is a bit wide so even if your finger is just a little bit near the edge of the lens, it can still show up in the photo. Or the camera strap…
I have a question when you unload the film. I took my 36 photos and I see the E, I was rewinding but i dont know if the counter goes down gradually (like E-36-33-30… until 1). Ooooor, my cranck got stuck or the film came off (i cant spin it anymore)
The counter won’t go down gradually, be sure to keep the rewind button at the bottom of the camera pressed down so you won’t get resistance from the gears ⚙️ (this may be why your crank feels stuck). The counter will reset when you open the film door

Hihi, I recently just got mine and I have a question do we need to wind the film counter every time after taking a picture because I'm kinda confused with the film counter number it kinda stucks sometimes 😂 Sorry if that's a silly question as I'm a film camera beginner 🥺
It’s ok! Yeah, you have to turn the film advanced wheel every time you want to take a photo. Not sure what you mean as “stuck”, but you’ll be unable to turn the counter if the shutter is cocked, you’ll only be able to turn it again when you finished taking a photo
Great video! I have a little question, I just bought one and I’m not sure how much I should turn the advance wheel after I take a picture. Like 3 times until it stops or just once? Idk if my camera is broken but I thought I only have to turn it once but when I do that, I can’t take a photo. Lol I’m just a little scared I’m doing it wrong.
@@Bonsees omg thank you i thought i was using it wrong and wasting film or smth🤦🏽♀️😂 I actually thought I inserted the film wrong the first time and took it out… is it completely burned? It wasn’t a lot, I guess the only part that’s burned is the film that was exposed to light?
hi! would you know if the exposure counter resets after a particular number of shots? or does it count til 36? mine reset to S after taking around 15-20 something shots (i didnt open the back though)
Hello, i just bought my m35, after i finished finish loading my film and winding it, i stupidly open the back to check if i load the film correctly (which i still cannot figure out), will my first or two picture burnt?
Haha nice! Using the flash really depends on the situation. In-doors, I would always use the flash. Outdoors, if it’s sunny, I would suggest using it if your subject is back-lit (sun is behind the subject), if the subject is in shadow (like in a shade of a tree), or if it’s cloudy outside.
hi! just a question, i'm also using m35. i think i took all the 36 shots already and it says 12 at the photo count not the letter E, i advanced the film and it doesn't move anymore. does this mean that i should rewind it since i think i'm done with all the shots? thank you so much!!
What film did you use? Maybe it’s one of those 24-27 exposure rolls Also, doesn’t the Kodak m35 count from 0 to 36, not the other way like the Lomography simple use? 🤔
mostly without flash since I was outdoors with lots of light. But I recommend using the flash when in-doors, in low-light (sunset, cloudy days, etc), or when your subject is in-shadow or is backlit
It might… I usually take the battery out of mine if I’m not using it for long periods of time (like half a year or something) but short periods should be ok. It also depends on the battery quality
i want to ask you some questions ; we can or cant see the photos we take on this film camera until we go to the lab ? then , if i go to the film shop to get the picture , can i ask them to transfer to the pendrive btw , hyeee from malaysiaaaa
Hello 👋🏼 you won’t be able to preview your film photos And you can ask the photo lab for digital scans, mine usually gives me a link to where to download the photos
Hiiiiii I’m using the Kodak M35 right now and it’s suddenly not allowing me to take more pictures eventhough there’s still more shots so is it like the Kodak’s problem of allowing a maximum of 30 shots or is that just mine?
Hmm 🤔 what’s the camera doing that prevents you from taking photos? Can you move the film advance forward? Is it stuck or does it keep going but the shutter doesn’t gets cocked?
I don’t actually think Kodak made this camera. A Chinese company (SinoPromise) manufactures these under the Kodak licensing program. Might be hard to track when it was first made
hey i love ur video :D but i have a question: can i use another film roll or do i have to use the kodak one? cuz they are kinda expensive and i found other ones that are way cheaper and have good reviews as well also what app or whatever this is are u using at 8:32 that is displaying ur photos?
Hey thanks! You can use any brand of 35mm film as long as the ISO rating is 200 and above. Black and white or colour. And I make my photo slides for video on Adobe premiere 😁 If you wanna do something similar on your phone, check out the Unfold app
Sorry I have a question, when I’m loading my film I did not check the rewind crank and now I already took 3 photos 😂 and every time I took a photo I wind the film the rewind crank is not turning along how can I solve the problem 😭 thank you
hi, sorry for the late reply, sometimes there might not be enough tension between the film canister and the film rewind crank. If you can turn the film advanced wheel and it stops after 2-3 turns and the shutter engages, then that means your film is still properly loaded
Hi, this may be a dumb question, but once I take a picture do I have to wind the shutter to get to the next number to take the next picture? Or should it automatically move to the next number? :)
It’s fully manual so you’ll have to advance the film every time you wanna take the next photo 😅 if you want something a little more automatic, check out the Harman EZ35 (which I already tried but haven’t edited the video yet haha it’s pretty cool too)
@@Bonsees ahh yea Thankyou! I just got confused because I was advancing the film and it was advancing to the dots, then I realised it doesn’t show all the numbers, it goes in an order of 3,6,9,12 with dots in the middle 😅 so I think I’ve wasted about 5 lol
@@mxrx8888 oh no! Haha yeah, the dots are there because they can’t really fit all the numbers up to 36 😂 but as long as the shutter gets cocked, then you can take a photo
Yeah no, I wouldn’t… ISO 400 film already gets underexposed in some of those conditions, in my experience, so lower speed films will probably be worst 😅 you can use Kodak Gold with these in bright sunny days though
Hi! I’m basically illiterate with film cameras but I really wanna try it. I’m so curious how I can get a digital copy of the pictures once it is developed? Do we just scan it or the shop where we get it developed gives us a copy? I hope i don’t sound so dumb T_T
It's all good! I would ask the lab/shop where you get your film developed if they offer a scanning service, which they usually do. You can try scanning at home, which can cost less in the long run, but it can be tricky + time-consuming. For beginners, I would suggest going to a lab that develops and scans film :)
hii i have a question! so basically i just bought one and then I was using it till the nunber shutter went to 3 but then it suddenly went back to S and i have no idea what i did. Is that okay? and what should i do ?? someone pls help
Hi!! Do u know what is happening to my camera... I took 4 pictures alr but it is still in the S mode.. is the camera suppose to change the numbers according to the number of photos we took? Like s to 1 to 2 to 3
The number should go up after taking photos. rolling the film advanced wheel to cock the shutter should do this… if you do this and the shutter fires, the film is probably advancing properly but maybe the film counter on your camera is broken
I haven’t used the KB10 but they will probably yield the same image quality given that the KB10 has a plastic 30mm f/8 lens, which is comparable to the M35. If you can find a cheap KB10 in good condition, maybe go for it. Though maybe you should check out the Harman EZ35 first. It’s kinda like a new KB10.
my kodak m35 flash doesn’t work anymore and i always use flash. i changed the battery but the flash still isn’t working. im afraid it’ll change the quality of the photos i took and will be taking
I’m sorry to hear 😵 I’ve been quite lucky with mine. For what it’s worth, you only really need the flash in lowlight or backlit situations. Although it does limit some creative functionality
You have to scan the film. The film lab where you get your film developed should be able to do this 🙂 if you wanna do it yourself, check out scanning film tutorials

hi! just a question, i accidentally dropped my film camera :( and the film count went back to S. will the photos that i've taken will be lost or...? and what should i do with the remaining shots.. i have like 5, i think it might be double exposed, i'm not sure tho. thank you!!
It’s fine, just take the remaining shots. I think the mechanism that resets the counter got activated when you dropped it (that counter resets when you open the film door). But since this is a fully manual camera, the film won’t actually rewind if you don’t wind it yourself using the film rewind crank and release button. As long as you didn’t accidentally expose the film to too much light, they won’t be lost. So just continue taking photos until you can’t advance the film anymore 😊
Hi, just wanna ask if the quality or outcome of photo the depends on the films that you use? Or it doesn't affect the photos at all? I hope you notice. Thank you
Short answer: the film has an effect on the photo TLDR: There are many variables that affect the final look of the photo. There are gear-related ones and skill-related ones. Personally, I think the top three gear-related ones are: 1. Scanning and editing 2. lens characteristics 3. film characteristics (in that order) Like say, a good lens will capture sharp images, but if you use a grainy film and have a bad scanner, the outcome will still be a not-so-sharp photo. This Kodak M35 has a plastic lens which will lower the image quality. But a good film and good scanning will result in good quality images. This leads me to my short answer, that yeah, the film does affect the final image haha.
I bought one. Amazon. $29.95US. What did you pay for yours on eBay? The Kodak name rights - like GE, Minolta, Yashica and RCA - have been sold to the highest bidders. Like your plastic camera reviews. (I sold a lot of your “classic cameras” as a high school kid camera store clerk…I am 70 - so that was a long time ago!)
Ah, I definitely paid more than that in January 202~ I think around $50 CAD~ I think now that places like B&H online sell them, online sellers can’t increase their prices anymore haha 😂 And thanks! Getting back to film then? 😆
@@Bonsees Never left it - totally - but labs are dying out in a lot of the US. I can process B&W at home but would need to get up to speed on scanning negs and LightRoom.

It’s ok! Yeah, you have to turn the film advanced wheel every time you want to take a photo. Not sure what you mean as “stuck”, but you’ll be unable to turn the counter if the shutter is cocked, you’ll only be able to turn it again when you finished taking a photo
Do you just turn it until you see the next number or dot?
Great video! I have a little question, I just bought one and I’m not sure how much I should turn the advance wheel after I take a picture. Like 3 times until it stops or just once? Idk if my camera is broken but I thought I only have to turn it once but when I do that, I can’t take a photo. Lol I’m just a little scared I’m doing it wrong.
You’ll have to turn it until it stops, don’t worry too much about it 😆
@@Bonsees omg thank you i thought i was using it wrong and wasting film or smth🤦🏽♀️😂 I actually thought I inserted the film wrong the first time and took it out… is it completely burned? It wasn’t a lot, I guess the only part that’s burned is the film that was exposed to light?
@@paulamezareclusa4575 yes, the part that is no longer in the canister and exposed to light is burnt 😅 but the rest should be fine
@@Bonsees thank you so much for answering so fast but especially for just answering, not a lot of youtubers do that i really appreciate it🥰

Woow, thanks for this one!
My pleasure!

after every capture, should i wind the gear to the upper right til it clicks??
cuz that's what i did to mine
Yes. That readies your camera for the next shot
Hi im new to film photography and just got my m35! Do you recommend always using flash outside during daylight?
You don’t really need the flash if it’s sunny. I tend to use it if my subject is backlit (like if the sun is behind your subject) or in deep shadow
should the film be advanced every after shot? thank you in advance!
Doesn’t have to be immediately after, but you need to advance it before you can take another photo
got it! thanks! 💗
Love it 💎
Thank you 😊
hi! would you know if the exposure counter resets after a particular number of shots? or does it count til 36? mine reset to S after taking around 15-20 something shots (i didnt open the back though)
Mine stays at 36 even I’ve shot up to 38. It usually only resets when the back is opened
Did you on the flash when you took pictures outside?
Just on a few, like the selfie and the red toy car
Hello, i just bought my m35, after i finished finish loading my film and winding it, i stupidly open the back to check if i load the film correctly (which i still cannot figure out), will my first or two picture burnt?
Most likely, yes, you’d lose a frame or two but the rest that’s still in the canister should be fine
i know i'm pretty late but is there a specific type of battery you used? i can't seem to find the right type for my camera!
This should just be a common AAA battery. I use one from energizer
Hello! Can you please teach me when to use the flash? Is it better if I don't use the flash at all? Btw, we have the same camera and same color! 😍
Haha nice!
Using the flash really depends on the situation. In-doors, I would always use the flash. Outdoors, if it’s sunny, I would suggest using it if your subject is back-lit (sun is behind the subject), if the subject is in shadow (like in a shade of a tree), or if it’s cloudy outside.
@@Bonsees Thank you so much! Such a big help. Thank you! Stay safe! ❤️
@@lindzayconsul9428 glad to help! stay safe as well
hi! just a question, i'm also using m35. i think i took all the 36 shots already and it says 12 at the photo count not the letter E, i advanced the film and it doesn't move anymore. does this mean that i should rewind it since i think i'm done with all the shots? thank you so much!!
What film did you use? Maybe it’s one of those 24-27 exposure rolls
Also, doesn’t the Kodak m35 count from 0 to 36, not the other way like the Lomography simple use? 🤔
I have this problem too . Sometimes it goes to 12 or 21 . Lucky if i get all but not always :(
Hi, which one do you think is the best? Kodak m35 or yashica mf1?
I’d go for the Kodak m35. Cheaper and easier to reload 😁 Yashica MF-1 is mostly for style
How does this compare to their regular disposable “fun saver” camera if you know?
You can reuse this many times compared to a one-time disposable. The image quality is fairly similar
Hi! Just wondering where you were able to buy the camera? :)
Got mine from eBay but B&H photo and video carries them now
Just got this camera as a gift from my girlfriend. Are you taking those picture with or without flash? Thanks in advance.
mostly without flash since I was outdoors with lots of light. But I recommend using the flash when in-doors, in low-light (sunset, cloudy days, etc), or when your subject is in-shadow or is backlit
@@Bonsees thanks for the information!
will keeping the battery in ruin the camera? or do i need to take it out when im not using it
It might… I usually take the battery out of mine if I’m not using it for long periods of time (like half a year or something) but short periods should be ok. It also depends on the battery quality
4:33 so say if i wanna take the second pic, i must roll the film winder to 2 right?
Yup, you always have to advance the film for every photo
i want to ask you some questions ;
we can or cant see the photos we take on this film camera until we go to the lab ?
then , if i go to the film shop to get the picture , can i ask them to transfer to the pendrive
btw , hyeee from malaysiaaaa
Hello 👋🏼 you won’t be able to preview your film photos
And you can ask the photo lab for digital scans, mine usually gives me a link to where to download the photos
Hi Sir Bon! May I ask where do you get your film processed and developed? I'm also from Calgary. Thank you!
Whoooh Calgary 🙌🏼 I just get my 35mm colour film developed and scanned at London Drugs at Brentwood, NW. They’re pretty good 👍🏼
the bunnies!!!!
they're so chill 😂
hii does the flash works correctly?
Mine does
Hiiiiii I’m using the Kodak M35 right now and it’s suddenly not allowing me to take more pictures eventhough there’s still more shots so is it like the Kodak’s problem of allowing a maximum of 30 shots or is that just mine?
Hmm 🤔 what’s the camera doing that prevents you from taking photos? Can you move the film advance forward? Is it stuck or does it keep going but the shutter doesn’t gets cocked?
hello! if i didn’t use the camera for a short while, will it affect the film? im still new to film cameras so your tips will help me a lot! thankyou
Hi, I’ve had film left in my camera for almost 6 months and it was ok. I just store it in a cool, dry place
@@Bonsees thank you for replying! 🥰
@@vividaniaalyssa1877 anytime! 😊
Does anyone know the year Kodak first made this camera?
I don’t actually think Kodak made this camera. A Chinese company (SinoPromise) manufactures these under the Kodak licensing program. Might be hard to track when it was first made
i just got mine in the MAIL!!!!!!
Woohoo have fun! 🙌🏼
After using this, do you prefer the Lomograph camera or this one?
I like them both, but with a slight preference to this type (the same as the Agfa photo, ilford sprite, and dubblefilm show)
hey i love ur video :D but i have a question: can i use another film roll or do i have to use the kodak one? cuz they are kinda expensive and i found other ones that are way cheaper and have good reviews as well
also what app or whatever this is are u using at 8:32 that is displaying ur photos?
Hey thanks! You can use any brand of 35mm film as long as the ISO rating is 200 and above. Black and white or colour.
And I make my photo slides for video on Adobe premiere 😁
If you wanna do something similar on your phone, check out the Unfold app

Sorry I have a question, when I’m loading my film I did not check the rewind crank and now I already took 3 photos 😂 and every time I took a photo I wind the film the rewind crank is not turning along how can I solve the problem 😭 thank you
hi, sorry for the late reply, sometimes there might not be enough tension between the film canister and the film rewind crank. If you can turn the film advanced wheel and it stops after 2-3 turns and the shutter engages, then that means your film is still properly loaded
@@Bonsees okay thank you so much I go try it now ✨
@@laladailylife6057 good luck!
@@Bonsees thank you !!!
Did you edit the photos?
Yep
Is there a way to adjust shutter speed on this camera?
No, it’s fixed at around 1/125
did it take a long time to ship?? every ebay offer i find says it wont be here until july
Mine took 16 days from Hongkong to Canada
Nowadays it seems like a month wait on eBay is standard 😅
Genuine question, do i need to keep rolling the round thingy everytime I take shots?
Yup. That advances the film to the next frame and also cocks the shutter ready for the next shot
how did you get the photos?
Got them developed and scanned for me by a photolab (the one I went for the photos in this video was a London Drugs photolab in Calgary, Alberta)
hellooo! do i have to wind before every shot?
Yes, you have to use the film advance wheel to take a photo
@@Bonsees Because everytime it got to the dots I kept advancing to the next number and was confused why it skipped from 3 to 6 😂
@@mxrx8888 oh no! Haha yeah, the dots are there because they can’t really fit all the numbers up to 36 😂 but as long as the shutter gets cocked, then you can take a photo
I'm on my 2nd shot, Mine are also showing DOT and then 3,, is this normal for the 2nd shot??
Hii it’s been a year since u posted this, does it still work? Just curious on the durability of it:) thanks!!
Still works, flash and all 😂
I'm on my 2nd shot, Mine are also showing DOT and then 3,, is this normal for the 2nd shot??
Yeah, it’s not possible to have all the numbers printed on the gear so some of them will be shown as dots instead
Hi, can I use Kodak gold 200 with this camera at night or indoors in low light to take photos of friends if I use flash?
Yeah no, I wouldn’t… ISO 400 film already gets underexposed in some of those conditions, in my experience, so lower speed films will probably be worst 😅
you can use Kodak Gold with these in bright sunny days though
@@Bonsees okay thank you for your advice! And thanks so much for making such informative and entertaining videos :)
@@roisinl.3892 my pleasure! Thanks
When do you use flash?
Low light, when subject is back-lit, and when subject is in shadow
Can I shut the camera off? I am scared I’ll take photos by accident.
Just don’t advance the film to the next shot after taking a photo and the camera won’t be able to take a photo when you store it away
@@Bonsees Thank you 😊
hii i have a question! so basically i just bought one and then I was using it till the nunber shutter went to 3 but then it suddenly went back to S and i have no idea what i did. Is that okay? and what should i do ?? someone pls help
The counter resets if the film door is opened. If you can continue taking photos you should be ok
I got this camera as a giveaway item. I'm figuring out how to use it
Congrats 🥳
im using flash when i put my roll film is it make it burn?
Sorry I don’t quite understand… did you mean your flash was on when you loaded your film roll in? That should be ok
Hi!! Do u know what is happening to my camera... I took 4 pictures alr but it is still in the S mode.. is the camera suppose to change the numbers according to the number of photos we took? Like s to 1 to 2 to 3
The number should go up after taking photos. rolling the film advanced wheel to cock the shutter should do this… if you do this and the shutter fires, the film is probably advancing properly but maybe the film counter on your camera is broken
what would you recommend, kodak kb 10 or M35?
I haven’t used the KB10 but they will probably yield the same image quality given that the KB10 has a plastic 30mm f/8 lens, which is comparable to the M35. If you can find a cheap KB10 in good condition, maybe go for it. Though maybe you should check out the Harman EZ35 first. It’s kinda like a new KB10.
@@Bonsees thank you so much!
Did you use flash for all outdoor photos?
No, just near the end when the sun started to set more
my kodak m35 flash doesn’t work anymore and i always use flash. i changed the battery but the flash still isn’t working. im afraid it’ll change the quality of the photos i took and will be taking
I’m sorry to hear 😵 I’ve been quite lucky with mine. For what it’s worth, you only really need the flash in lowlight or backlit situations. Although it does limit some creative functionality

hi! just a question, i accidentally dropped my film camera :( and the film count went back to S. will the photos that i've taken will be lost or...? and what should i do with the remaining shots.. i have like 5, i think it might be double exposed, i'm not sure tho.

Thank you
Short answer: the film has an effect on the photo
TLDR: There are many variables that affect the final look of the photo. There are gear-related ones and skill-related ones. Personally, I think the top three gear-related ones are:
1. Scanning and editing
2. lens characteristics
3. film characteristics
(in that order)
Like say, a good lens will capture sharp images, but if you use a grainy film and have a bad scanner, the outcome will still be a not-so-sharp photo.
This Kodak M35 has a plastic lens which will lower the image quality. But a good film and good scanning will result in good quality images. This leads me to my short answer, that yeah, the film does affect the final image haha.
@@Bonsees thank you so much. This is very helpful 😊
Idk but he sounds exactly like that narration guy from daily dose of internet, is it only me?
You’re not the first to say that 😂
I bought one. Amazon.
Ah, I definitely paid more than that in January 202~ I think around $50 CAD~ I think now that places like B&H online sell them, online sellers can’t increase their prices anymore haha 😂
And thanks! Getting back to film then? 😆
@@Bonsees Never left it - totally - but labs are dying out in a lot of the US. I can process B&W at home but would need to get up to speed on scanning negs and LightRoom.
