- I throw my discs to see the differences among putters, midranges, fairway and distance drivers. Should I ever throw distance drivers?

Man this is like my brother from somewhere else. DG nerds unite!
Cool
That’s similar to my experience as a 53 yr old. I’ve gotten a couple of long throws with an Innova Mamba and a Lonestar Tumbleweed, both understable. However, I can get safer distance with my 7-9 speed fairways most of the time. I have a 3-4 mids in the bag, but the fairways are just as accurate if I just relax and throw easy.
If it has the flight you want, just throw it lol.
I've seen Scoggins throw destroyers for upshots and utility shots 😂
Great video as always! Good insight with how seeing how your discs fly for you. I recently picked up an F5 in 500 plastic during the National Disc Golf Day sale Prodigy had recently. It feels pretty nice! I find that those understable distance drivers go furthest for me as well, though I picked up a lightweight (148g) base plastic Destroyer, and the plastic and weight make it pretty flippy, but the overstable nature of the disc help balance it out. I haven't tried it out in a field yet, but I suspect it will be my farthest flyer. I also keep a really overstable distance driver for utility/overhand shots. It looks like Prodigy does have some M1s and even some MX-1s on their retail site. One reason to throw distance drivers, even if you don't quite have the arm for them (like me) is that they don't need as much of a ceiling to push, which is great in the woods.
Your thoughts on distance drivers make sense. Thanks for watching!
I dont ever really throw putters. I usually take some off a mid or go with an approach disc. Thanks for the content. 👍
@50 mph arm max arm speed logic would suggest that something around a 7 speed should be my max distance driver but I recently set a distance pr (360'!) with a ridiculous 142g 13 speed DX Ape. Doesn't make sense to me but it easily outsails any of my other discs by 40 feet or so.
I think weight and plastic matters, which is why I like testing my discs out in the field. Thanks for watching!
I can’t throw distance drivers. My fairway drivers can range between 220 and 270. I am trying to get to 300 but I feel Father Time is going to hamstring me to the 250-275 range. My ego wants to play the longer tees, it all but eliminated birdies….again ego.
I love the game, but at 62 it is a bit humbling.
Thank you for the video.
Don't give up, I'm 62 also and still making gains. Also like you I'm averaging 250-275 but I can break 300 sometimes and recently set a pr with a 360' throw! At our age you have to pay to play though, daily stretching and workouts are mandatory for me.
great video man.. im new to playing.. like 2 months give or take.. i throw everything forehand.. my backhand sucks.. i should throw midrange sometimes i guess but i dont.. i do fairway driver the whole way and backhand a putter to the basket if needed.. i could be wrong but my thinking is get decent at forehand and then figure out backhand…
Nothing wrong with that thinking. But I might recommend this video by Robbie C for a GREAT drill to give you the proper feeling for a backhand. In particular, check out the "backwards throw" drill. Hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/JtYI4BmvRP4/видео.html
Does the forehand ever hurt your elbow? It hurts mine if I do too many. Thanks for watching!
@@BDubsDiscGolf used to.. now just every now and then.. i thought it was mainly from elbow and tendons not used to bending certain ways and with the force of throws.. i've changed styles of throwing forehand once or twice trying to throw better and also not put to much pressure on elbow. i haven't measured my distance on the course but at the house its only like 250 all uphill.. so i dont know what that distance is on flat ground.. need to measure while playing but keep for getting to.
