@@jonathanreed5731in the previous chamber Burger activated what is known as the crouch fly glitch (CFG). By crouching while not moving in an excursion funnel the game incorrectly determines the player to be in 2 funnels, so when the player steps out the game thinks the player is still in a funnel. While in a funnel gravity is disabled for the player, so you’re able to fly/walk over pits without falling in. This bugged state is preserved between level transitions, so all Burger needs to do is activate the glitch before entering chapter 9 and he is able to skip the long slow funnel ride that would normally happen. Luckily, the final level of chapter 8 has funnels, so before finishing the level Burger activates the CFG and uses it to skip the traps Wheatley has created in chapter 9. Before the final boss fight he briefly enters the excursion funnel that would take you to the boss fight. This causes the game to recheck the funnel counter. Seeing that it’s at 1 the game doesn’t update it because it correctly detects he is in only 1 funnel. Now when he leaves the funnel, gravity is enabled again as the game sees he is not in a funnel, allowing him to finish the game with minimal issues. TLDR: he abuses buggy code to make the game disable gravity, allowing him to fly. He then forces the game to reactivate gravity when flying is no longer necessary. Hope this helps!
As someone who regularly plays the portal series and is one of my top games… what the hell just happened?!?! I audibly gasped multiple times at how easy it was for you to skip long parts-
i get invincibility on Wakeup level by falling down the incinerator earlier than intended, which persists to the end of the game. The elevator thing is me waiting for a specific dialogue line to get as quick of a fadeout as possible.
In the first room of chapter 9 the part of the wall he flies through has no collision as it isn’t possible to reach it without glitches before a cutscene of it opening. Something similar happens later on near the end of chapter 9, as a wall is supposed to be destroyed and fall away before the player can reach it Burger skips the triggers for both of these with the crouch fly glitch (CFG). At the end of chapter 8 before exiting the final chamber Burger is pushed into a wall by an excursion funnel. He then crouches which causes the game to incorrectly increase a counter that determines how many funnels the player is currently in. As a result, upon exiting the funnel the game believes the player is still in a funnel. While in a funnel, gravity is disabled, so when CFG is activated the game no longer gives the player gravity which allows them to fly. CFG is disabled right before the final boss fight by entering the funnel the player is intended to take to get there. When entering a funnel the game checks if the funnel counter is at 1. If it isn’t, the game increases the counter by 1. Otherwise, the game does nothing. When Burger now exits the final funnel the game updates the counter, decreasing it to 0 and reactivating gravity. TLDR: the walls he flies through have no collision so there’s nothing to stop him, and he can fly by tricking the game into disabling gravity through the use of glitches.
If you mean: "why does the speedrun starts at 5 minutes?" The opening cutscenes of chell waking up and meeting wheatley counts as time for the speedrun but have little to no gameplay So most people choose to fast-forward that part because until you enter the first test chamber there is no way to save time in the run for those first 5 minutes
the fastest way for the level to finish is to enter the elevator in a way so the dialogue ends right before reaching one of the invisible triggers during the elevator ride
Remember when we people were saying that ceiling catapult skip was IL only? Yeah, neither do I! 😂😂😂 (Also, I have NEVER seen it done faster on first try like that!!
they just have stormtrooper aim. (real answer: i do a trick at the end of wakeup that allows me to finish the cutscene earlier than intended by falling down the incinerator, and because of that the game doesnt get rid of the invincibility that it gives me)

you step on it for just 1 tick and it stays pressed in

do you think i can get into portal 2 speed running or is it too late like top 3.
It’s not too late, but you have to be committed. You need to be willing to put thousands of hours into the game.

Here you go: 0:00-5:00
