Diesels were designed for instant power, moving loaded trains, lorries etc, hence the instant torque, which in the real world translates into effortless acceleration and easy overtaking AND fuel economy. Depends on how deep your pockets are and if you want instant power delivery or progressive acceleration/top speed. Cant beat low down torque in any gear OR the sound and speed from a petrol. • @PiOfficial
      @PiOfficial Год назад

      @@AK88onCars the only thing you mentioned that makes any difference is weight distribution. Although it’s so marginal that the variation in road conditions between the two different sides of a track will make it impossible to measure.
      Stock brakes can take more kinetic energy out of a moving car than any road legal tyres can handle. Brake upgrades don’t affect stopping distance all cars basically stop in the same distance when equipped with the same tyres.
      If you don’t believe me turn off abs and slam your brakes in literally any car ever made at 60mph and you will lock the wheels because the brakes aren’t the weakpoint the tyres are.
      If you want to see how much weight comes into it check out how friction coefficient changes with loading on modern tyres. It’s a few % at the extremes.

    • @AK88onCars
      @AK88onCars Год назад

      @@PiOfficial Appreciate the educated reply 👍 Your right (at speeds less then 60mph), but only in a vacuum (figuratively speaking) where conditions are perfect and heat and inertia are playing no part. In your example, you also take that standard breaking system around a track and by the second lap - the effectiveness of the brakes have reduced significantly, and the balance of all those other points come into play. Then, a car with a better braking set up, will show up cars with 2x the straight line performance. This applies equal parts to suspension, tyres, cooling, engine, control systems, etc every part of the car.
      And I guess that's the point I'm getting to, in your 20's you build cars that are "all gas, no brakes". You then take said unbalanced car off the street, and find on most focus settings, it excels at nothing (personal experience, loony numbers in FWD hot hatches - good fun, but flawed).
      When you're more of a grown up, you build your car in equal parts, as what you then build is more complete car that does better all around. Life's rarely straight lines.
