himachal village lady hand spinning wool

I met this beautiful old lady from the Hills in the Himachal. She was hand spiining wool as she was walking. I asked her to explain me about it. She scolded me saying tits so simple.. theres nothing to explain. I told her it may be simple for her but we have forgotton this ancient art of hand spinning wool as we do other chores. the she readily explained it to me.

The support bowl tucked in her waistband is ingenious! I'll have to tell my support-spindling friend (I prefer to use a drop spindle). Great vid!

to comment on the comment saying one needs a support spindle to spin very fine yarn: i've been spinning for 20+ years. one can spin fine yarn on just about any type of spindle. i spin superfine lace on my spinning wheel, drop spindle and support spindles. don't put limitations on what can be done w/ specific tools! this woman's technique is fabulous--the idea of putting the support in her waistband. cool!
