  • DIY Scottish spindle (a Dealgan) made from an Industrial Bobbin and one 3/16 inch dowel. Plus instructions on how to spin wool horizontally and suspended like a Drop Spindle. More info in my Blog: missingspindle.blogspot.com. Historically correct dealgans can be found in my shop here: missingspindle.etsy.com. In Dealgan form, this Steampunk Bobbin conversion is used like spindles seen in my "Spin like you're Scottish" RUclips video. This spindle is not Historical, just Hysterical.

    I'm currently working a story in a fantasy/medieval setting, and having picked up spinning earlier this year (via some of your videos for tips and tricks!) was making one character someone who spins while on the back of her horse while on go. I was thinking drop spindle at first because that was what I knew and not caring much for the thigh-rolling motions, but watching this type of technique just opened a whole new world for me and seems FAAAAR more fitting for a "traveler." Awesome videos, please keep it up!

      I know it's been three years but there is also grasped or in hand spinning. This what I do with a bulgarian spindle. The bulb at the top gives you somewhere to snap the spindle when spinning, the spindle is only suspended for a few seconds at a time. I love this spindle since it's small enough I can keep it in my bag, without knocking a whorl around, with a few balls of cotton. I'll regularly spin while walking around shopping, sitting in a car, everywhere.

    Thank You from all of us who will follow....
    it is not often I send greetings to some one setting off an undiscovered chapter in hand spinning.
    Lucky me, day after surfing for early period images and then getting my head around this very fresh research
    I was set to attend a vintage textile fair! Pryms were on to be had! not eight inch hole but little will not slow up my next adventure.
    Spindle keen..... since about 2003 ish. Now researching lead cloth seals.

    Hi Lois, I am part of the Bothwell International Highland SpinIN & Fibre Festival in Tasmania, Australia. We are seeking an international guest to attend the event in March 2021 and I thought you'd fit the bill. Are you still active in the industry, and would you consider taking this idea further?

    • @jant4741
      @jant4741 3 года назад

      Late, but think most festivals are on hold. Lois was scheduled to teach at the 2020 Central New York fiber festival. Their organizers can likely get you in touch. Lois does know her stuff thoroughly, which is a rarity.
