Detroiters Are Waging Paintball Wars As A Way To Stop Gang Violence

- Police in several cities across the U.S. are trying to put a stop to the groups of men waging paintball battles as a part of #PaintballsUpGunsDown - an anti-gun violence campaign police are calling misguided.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig said the #PaintballsUpGunsDown movement has gotten out of control and could backfire if officers mistake a paintball gun for a real firearm.
The grassroots movement first gained traction on social media in early April as a proposed way to resolve conflicts with paint instead of bullets. Since then, participants from Atlanta to Detroit have engaged in full blown paintball wars on city streets, with as many as 50 shooters taking aim at each other at once, hitting innocent bystanders and marking up cars and homes.
Over the last week, police in Detroit started making arrests for destruction of property. Paintballers say they're being targeted for being young and black and that cleaning up paint is a lot better than picking up dead bodies.

The fact that the news initially spun this in a negative light speaks volumes about how desperate they are to sell negative sensationalistic stories.
How could you possibly spin it in a positive light? You know it's extremely easy to just not murder people, right?
It's a dumb thing to do makes guns to be like a toy. Makes your stuff look like garbage. Grow up raise your kids to be real men and real ladies. Not wannabe gangsters and ratchet trash women. A gangster wears a suit and tie you can't even get that right in the hood.
What do you expect them to say? There's no evidence gang violence has gone down. So why should they approve of this paintballing if it hasn't shown any tangible benefit yet.

This is actually a great way to stop Gang Wars, you get to have fun and take out anger on others with paintball guns and do it in the exact same way, driving cars and doing drive bud with paintballs instead of bullets.

Nor a step in the right direction to achieve a safer neighborhood. There is a stigma in paintball as a result to these kinds of things. Anyone who actively plays would refer to their gun as a "Paintball Marker" rather than say " paintball gun" to avoid any sort of confusion or accidentally stir panic in public. And with the rise of magfed markers; such as the first strike T15, tippmann TMC, and other such platforms taking direct inspiration from AR Platforms. Some even functioning similar to them, its become more of a delicate issue in terms of public views and its sense of safety.

"We settled a lot of beef" "It brought people together" and that's the whole point. Why take and lose lives over beef? A lot of people who grow up in neighborhoods like this are forced into the same lifestyle and mindset as everybody else. It runs back generations. Government doesn't help aid these people, nor are their solutions for the crimes all that good. What needs to happen is a reshaping of the way people live in places like this. You can't just arrest every gang member and call it a day. You gotta make an impact that's gonna teach the younger generation why they shouldn't be killin each other, cuz all their life they've been told they should.

No amount of equipment or officers in the way they operate now will never fix crime. The only problem I’m seeing with this is that they’re shooting at people who are not into this game, and also nobody is wearing eye protection. Still a thousand times better than having them do the same with real firearms

@@maxim6088 Yeah that's true what you are saying but, police and other people would mistaken a airsoft gun then a paintball gun. Trust me I play in airsoft fields with thousands of dollars worth of airsoft guns. Most of the airsoft guns nowadays mimic real guns like they dont even have an orange tip on the gun.
@@drinkableslug7894 true, even with an orange tip, you can easily mistake the rifles for real fire arms, ussualy something like and AR with an extended rail, has a very poorly visible orange tip, so it literally can't be differentiated from a real weapon from certain angles, and the blowback pistols, are extremely real life like
