      I honestly believe Goku gets hard while fighting. The second the tournament starts "Toppo fight me daddy!" Then he sees jiren gives him that "I want u so badly" face. Sees dyspo fighting his old squeeze and gets jealous and tells Hit "Save yourself for me later big boi"

    Actually, for years, we've seen Piccolo endlessly meditating, and traditionally, he is often depicted as the closest to keeping up with the Saiyans, so yeah.
    If we're going a mental/spiritual route, then Goku may find his final great limit break in forging a better healthier attachment to his family and friends.

      That's actually a good point. By MasakoX's logic, in order for Goku to finally achieve his greatest potential, he really would need a better mental and spiritual training regimen.

    In Goku's own words "I wanna fight really strong guys." He felt bad about killing someone as unique and powerful aa Buu. Thats what people dont get about the character sometimes. He likes seein peoples potential in battle but he despises killing...its a way for him to make ammends and like he said himself after he's done training Uub they will fight again and it will be a really great match. He gets that wide-eyed childlike look lol

    • @tristanearhart6040
      @tristanearhart6040 7 лет назад +11

      Goku despise killing STRONG people. He's killed many times without a care in the world, like the red ribbon army, tambourine, etc. in fact, this whole universe of power death thing doesn't effect him that bad because weaker universes aren't as fun

    • @GSSAGE7
      @GSSAGE7 7 лет назад +5

      Tristan Earhart Goku's distaste for killing only became a thing after being trained by Kami, so I always got the feeling that Kami basically taught him a kind of morality.

    • @mikeythegenesaur719
      @mikeythegenesaur719 5 лет назад

      I dunno that he despises killing, per se, more that he figured out that others besides himself come back stronger if left alive. This was probably something he realized upon facing the much stronger, younger incarnation of Piccolo, whose existence is a result of defeating the original Piccolo. And indeed, Piccolo Jr. is the first person Goku spares for this reason. Oh, and he also dislikes it when people he likes die. But I don't think he's inherently morally against taking a life.

  • @DBZMacky

    Frieza started out as being undefeatable without Super Saiyan and was able to surpass Super Saiyan God through training.
    Same with Android 17.
    So just imagine how strong Uub could get when his starting potential is SS3 tier. I think Goku realized that when he wanted to train Uub.
    Goku's always been several steps ahead of Vegeta. If he wants a real rival, then his best bet is to train one himself.

    You know going with Goku might have been better for Uubs village then if he had just won the price money. I mean even if Goku does not really care he is someone with incredible connections. Ignoring the Kais and Dende (who might give a hand by making it possible for the village to have farms) he still knows some of the most influential humans on earth. His son married Hercules daughter and he has been friends with Bulma for years. He could ask them for help. Herc could get more for the village by doing some campaign and Bulma could make something that would help them with growing food.
    Even if he does not care he would notice that this is on Uubs mind distracting him so it would be in Gokus best interest to help.

    Goku did think about having a successor, so I don't think the reasoning is as extreme as him "only" caring about himself. That's ignoring Goku's selfless qualities. Goku does selfish things, but he does care for his family, friends and the Earth. He's, both, happy to have a potential new equal opponent and also thinking of the future, training a successor. Goku planned to initially pass the torch to Gohan, even deciding to stay dead to protect everyone, but that didn't work out. This is also why Chichi decided to try and train Goten, but neither Gohan nor Goten are interested in becoming Goku's successors.
    It would be great if Super ended with an alternate ending where we do see Goku change as a character because of the events in the story and end up training Uub while still staying together with his family (training Pan, as well, together with Uub), though.

      Great comment. I know this is from a year ago. But people want Goku to be this completely selfish guy when in all actuality he's very selfless. I mean he has moments of selfishness but I think he's a hero all things considered.

      You can only resist your instincts for so long. At some point, Goku had to do some soul-searching and he had to face facts that he didn't save Earth all those times to do good. It was the best way to fight strong guys. Dragon Ball Super depicts a Goku who made peace with that fact I think.

      Goten should go his own way.
      My idea is when he becomes a Teenager, he becomes a rebel. Kinda like Vegeta but without the killing.
      Pan should be trained by Gohan if he keeps his training up.
      Later in DBS, there'll be an arc where only the kids are a part of.
      Pan, Bra, Uub, Goten, Trunks and Maron. They'll all be on a trip to some beach on a distant planet but Pan and Bra went off somewhere. Goten and Maron went looking for them and Trunks and Uub went looking for Goten because they wanted to spar. Now, they're in a forest on an unknown planet with powerful monsters nearby. And so starts the mini-arc of 5 episodes in DBS.
      - Goten and Maron fall in love
      - Pan and Bra show off their terrifying strength
      - Trunks grows up like his dad
      - Uub will beat the powerful monster
      Would be a great arc for the characters and in DBS.

      I think Goten wouldn't be upset about that because he is very much like Goku but he trains under Piccolo and Vegeta as a switch off.

      Vegeta should just keep training Trunks

    I 'm trying to figure when Goku got his fighting addiction. He didn't have it in the original series.
    First he just wanted to see Shenlong and thought he would just get the four star ball back.
    Second arc he trains under Roshi who made the ofter, but it didn't stand out from Krillen or Yamcha.
    Third arc he goes looking for the four star ball and happens to encounter the red ribbon army on the way. And then destroying then so he could bring one of their victims back to life despite already having the four star ball and the army not really being a challenge. Then king Piccolo because he killed Krillen, Roshi and chiaotzu. And then trained under Kami after learning about Piccolo jr after going there to get Kami to revive the ones who died.
    It seems to start in the saiyan arc where they made him an alien and they started making everything about him his saiyan origin. He has a tail? Alien. He can turned into a giant ape? Alien. He likes fighting? Alien and now he is randomly addicted to fighting.
    He is a bad father and husband? ALIEN!

      In fact, I wish he was just a magical Demon guy who came from another dimension.

    • @ExistentHope
      @ExistentHope 7 лет назад +8

      Yasuda1986 The turn Goku had to becoming addicted to fighting was against Vegeta when he met someone so strong it tested him to his limits he spared Vegeta cause of that so he could fight him again after that Goku kept getting excited about a higher challenge then after he became a super Saiyan he had used anger to fight and transform and by nature anger makes you more fight prone. Then in the Cell Saga Goku sees fighting as a means of getting stronger so he can fight the next strong one that comes along. So when he faced Vegeta a second time he was smirking more and loving it far different from the Goku he use to be in the Saiyan saga.

    • @HigurashiMerlin
      @HigurashiMerlin 7 лет назад +6

      Frankly it might have been better if goku hadn't been made an alien. It doesn't really add anything and Toriyama keeps making everything about Goku's character be his alien origin.

    • @weridplusho
      @weridplusho 7 лет назад +3

      He always had a fighting(/training) addiction, see him wanting to eagerly be trained by Roshi. It's just that in the original he was more muted as he can put it aside for other interests. His heritage really became a lazy crutch for Toriyama just so he can write the simplest character all while blaming it on him being an alien.

    • @HigurashiMerlin
      @HigurashiMerlin 7 лет назад +7

      I wouldn't really call that an addiction to fighting. It didn't really seem more intense than Krillen, Yamcha or Tenshinhan. The rest stands, Goku really suffered from character de-evolution.

  • @sarahreynolds1958
    @sarahreynolds1958 7 лет назад +7

    I thought it was pretty obvious why... He wanted to fight him again, fairly, without the universe at stake so he could do it alone without interference from the others. Same reason he wanted Krillin to spare Vegeta on earth.

  • @amanofnoreputation2164
    @amanofnoreputation2164 7 лет назад +15

    I wouldn't be too sure. Goku is selfish, but he still understands what's important.
    In the Frieza saga, he stayed behind to fight Frieza completely at his own risk. If anything, having everyone else go back to Earth set him at ease because there was no way any of them could get caught in the crossfire.
    Throwing Cell a 仙豆 may have been the quintessential "Goku's an idiot" moment, but back then he really did beileve that Gohan would defeat Cell without any effort. (senzu already means "magic bean." You don't need to say "senzu bean")
    The complications that arose were simply beyond his foresight.
    He shows no signs of envy and instead is proud of his son's accomplishment and then sacrifices his own life to save the earth.
    Goku was well and truly dead for the beginning of the Buu Saga and he knew that he wasn't going to be able to stick around for much long so he made the effort to impart what he knew to Goten and Trunks. He even expended what little time he had left on Earth to go SSJ3 so that Gotenks could do the same.
    Goku had every opportunity to zip off to some unknown corner of the galaxy to train in peace but instead he is shown doing farmwork to sustain his family.
    What need would Goku have to do this if fighting was really all that mattered to him?
    Toriyama didn't really put that much thought behind the ending to Z. He needed something to give a sendoff. If he had put more care into it perhaps he would have had Goku set up a fighting school, appoint Uub as it's head after he had imparted all of his techniques, and then spent the rest of his days living quietly on his farm.
    It isn't always about limits and getting stronger. Toriyama loves manga. He wouldn't have become a mangaka if he didn't. He could have kept going and going with Dragon Ball, making it better and better with a re-write here and a continuation there and a subplot over there -- but in the end he just wanted a change.
    Even Goku can get bored of fighting all the time, especially when it doesn't look like there's anything else to learn. That's why he likes to go fishing or just relax by a river instead like he did right before the Cell games.
    At this point, I think the people de-humanizing Goku more than anyone are the fans, not the writers.

      Rei Ranmaru, one of the underlying ironies of that is the fact that Gohan could work fighting miracles with his scientific knowledge and analytical thinking, if he just put them to combat use... and it would give him an ever bigger strategic edge in comparison to others (not that his sluggy alien mentordad didn't already help there). He should be one of the most well-rounded fighters in the multiverse, really.
      Then again, he does break down the science of ki manipulation and make it readily available to the normal populace of Earth several decades down the line, so there's that at the very least. :)

    Goku spent his early life living in the mountains with Grandpa Gohan, whom he eventually killed after becoming a great ape, leaving him completely alone.
    At the start of Dragon Ball, he's never even seen a car or a woman before.
    It stands to reason that someone like him would have a very unusual outlook on family and human interactions in general long into adult life.
    Here's a real what if scenario for you: What if Goku married Bulma instead of Chichi.
    Now *that's* how you shake up a timeline!
    (I don't know if you've done that one. It's just the first thing that came to mind.)
    It's no wonder that Toriyama had such a hard time drawing Chichi because her character just seemed to revolve around being a girl who's infatuated with Goku. She's whiny, nagging, clingy and complains all the time.
    Really she just comes off as all of the things Toriyama found annoying about girls all rolled into one character.
    Bulma is always a joy to see though because there are aspects to her character that Toriyama can instantly identify with: she's a scientist and has a love of technology.
    On top of that it lets her actually do shit and contribute to the plot.
    She complains as well, but the nature of her complains are usually less petty and more relatable. She doesn't care who it is either, if they've upset her they're going to hear about it. Not even Beerus is scary enough to deter her.

    Not going to lie here. It kind of feels like this explanation is only a thing because people were criticizing Goku's character in Super. As if the Uub moment was one of the only things getting in the way of the "Goku's always been selfish" counterargument.
    Hell, the last sentence almost comes off as "Just let go of the idea that Goku should be more selfless at this point already." Maybe I'd feel differently if the other side of the argument had some acknowledgement other than "It's wrong" because, as you said yourself, the ending was left ambiguous. But whatever.

      Sadly, from what I've seen people were praising Goku's character in Super because this what Toriyama originally wanted Goku to act like, not what the anime adaption did prior to Kai and Super. As a matter of fact when that reason came up, people were quick to pin the blame on Funimations early dub of DBZ, when from what I recall, Toriyama found fault in both the Funimation dub and the original Japanese version because they treated Goku more like a hero, with Funimation making Goku slightly Superman-ish with that speech he gave to Freeza on Namek

    I blame Master Roshi. In the original Dragon Ball after Goku's first world tournament, Roshi tells Goku he should not be focused on winning but to train and that there are always a more powerful people out there, which drove Goku to training throughout his life. Couple on to the fact that every time there starts to be a moment of peace, a new opponent arrives to give Goku a reason to train more. Roshi never taught Goku moderation and I think his Saiyan blood drives Goku to becoming stronger.

      If Piccolo can keep up with the Sayains from just meditating, that should say a lot about how far Goku can go, if he started to focus on just mental training. • @mattwright6229

    @MasakoX I think the only problem with the thought process you give to this video is that this is America's Hero Goku. Fighting for his friends, family, and loves ones against Frieza, self sacrifice against Cell, and when the universe's most feared being was reincarnated, he took the Supreme Kai's job of thinking about the future of the universe. Now at this time we only knew of Buu, not Beerus. And even Beerus is linked with Buu as being the two beings never to mess with as told to Frieza. He looked after Uub to train him to use his powers for good. Sure Goku would get a good fight and learn from Uub, but his selfish ways that are maid apparent from Dragon Ball, and Dragon Ball Super aren't as apparent with the Buu arc.
    In regard to other ideas pitched in this video, SSBlue Goku and Golden Frieza clearly went toe to toe evenly, if not a slight advantage to Frieza, in the movie replay arcs. The only difference was that Frieza couldn't sustain the form. Frieza sustaining "mental training", would still not give the body endurance to handle a form that drains stamina.
    I'm also going to note that Dragon Ball Super is full of other convenient plot devices and cop outs. Trunks learns Mafuba, Trunks learns "half blue" form and somehow is more effective than SSBlue Goku and Vegeta, SSBlue Vegito gets a time limit cut with fusion, Universe 6 Saiyans have tingly backs to power up for the tournament so they aren't rendered useless, Frost can immediately manipulate the mafuba, and Kale who is supposedly equal to Broly, can overpower SSBlue Goku even though Goku in a weaker super saiyan form, along with other super saiyans was able to defeat Broly.
    I can understand why certain things are done to move a story along, but it has been frustrating to see people take these things as applicable canon. There's nothing to judge things off of anymore, but to just say "well that happened"...... I like the idea of mental training, because powering up and powering up and powering up is going to eventually get ridiculous. The tournament of power has been wonderful and making strategy and puzzles applicable. But it's also been a horrible attempt at fan service, and that is twisting the show in a way that is unpleasant.

    1st, he's just like piccolo, a being reincarnated from the completely darkside of the strongest antagonist goku fought years ago. He would obviously want to see how he is and that he stays on the straight and narrow.
    2nd, he didn't want to leave a kid as powerful as kid buu without any. Means of surpressing his power or keep it controlled. Any sane person would want to train him so that he doesn't accidentally destroy the world by having one bad day

    Honestly, I kind of thought this was the reason to some extent at least. I mean, when Goku was saying/praying that he hoped Kid Buu would be reincarnated as a good person someday. He finished by saying that he would like to fight that person one on one (I'm paraphrasing the lines, but they are essentially the same in English and Japanese). So, of course Goku wanted to fight Uub and when he finally got to and saw that Uub was young and unrefined, Goku decided to train him to become stronger so he could finally fight him again at a higher level. If anything, the fight between Goku and Uub at the start of GT is actually a good end to the story arc (if that fight was longer, more action packed, and maybe open ended).
    Also, not sure about the original Japanese version, but in the dub Goku told Uub not to worry about winning the prize money because he would just ask Mr. Satan to sponsor Uub's training meaning he would just give him money so that solves that problem.

Goku's life... and let's face it, afterlife goal will forever be that of climbing the power ladder as long as he knows there are rungs. Frankly if anything he should be given the title *supreme Kai of limit breaking* ... and honestly maybe that's the actual end right there. the fact that he just continues to climb forever beyond the mortal coil.

      This is dragonball. At the end of every ark so far they undo all the losses with the dragonballs. The only ark who didn't was the zamusa ark. But than they still made an alternate timeline happy ending. It would be a first if there are real consequenties.

    the uub arks starts after Goku takes uub to the hyporbolic chamber for 5 years telling uub
    that they will leave the chamber after uub defeats him.during the 5 years inside the chamber a disaster is unfolding out side of the chamber.a race of the most powerful demons have defeated
    the gods of destruction and also
    overwhelmed the angels sealing them away.mr popo & dende comfronts Goku & uub about the bad situation that had unfold.
    Goku challenges the top demon
    to fight in order to defeat him and save the entire Galaxy and free the angels.even though Goku is even stronger than super sayajin blue form now it's still not enough to
    defeat the top demon.thats when
    the uub story unfolds.

    What if Goku became an angel like Whis and he's training uub to be the next God of destruction.

    I wonder if Goku is actually Training Uub to be the next God of Destruction? Maybe Goku spends the Five-year gap looking for a replacement for Beers.

    I don't think the ending we saw in Z is going to happen now and the entry of Uubs character is going to be completely different and might have something to do with BUU. Also Goku is the bread winner at home now he has to run the farm Chi Chi is not going to let him take off for any periods of time, in fact the only time Goku actually skipped out on his family in the past was when he was dead.

      Despite his looks, Goten is 14 years old. He can run the farm.

    Goku's been living with his family and friends for over 5 years. He spent 5 years with Pan and Goten, gave chi-chi all the love she needs. Some of these moments are seen in DBS in the "filler/peaceful" episodes. Like DBS episode 43...
    So after five years or so, Goku finally meets Uub. The person he's been wanting to battle ever since he defeated majin boo. Uub's existence is the result of Goku's request to Shenron to reincarnate Boo as a human being so Goku can have a strong acquaintance to train with. So when Goku met Uub at the tournament he had no choice but to take Uub as his disciple and train him.
    It was never implied that he left his family and friends for good. In fact, Goku probably visited them every week. I mean he does have the instant transmission technique. And even if he did leave for a long time to be with Uub, its for a good cause. Uub's power is a huge responsibility, and its Goku's duty to ensure Uub reaches his full potential and becomes one of the planets next greatest warrior.
    He spent 5 long years with his family and friends already, and his kids are all grown up too. So its not that big of a deal that he left for a little bit to train the reincarnation of majin boo. But once again, it was never implied anywhere that Goku completely abandoned his family for good.

      Why would he being black have anything to do with it? Lol
      I just think he is bland, not interesting and boring, i'd rather Goku stayed with Pan and trained her, even though i hate her character too, you implying i dislike a certain character because of his or hers skin color is asinine, makes me think you are trying to act like the typical sjw to get likes, pathetic, really.

    If you take into account the events of Super, GT Uub becomes more explainable. By the time of GT, the Z fighters aren’t just the strongest fighters in earth, they are one of the strongest forces in existence. Uub was going up against Baby who would scale as significantly stronger than Jiren. Of course he would get bodied, he’s just a kid!

      if they are a majin they gain his power,
      if not it is normal candy.
      the ability to absorb the power of others in this way is unique to majin physiology
      its not the candy its how he process it.

    One thing that I noticed when watching the show was with Vegeta. When he exited the time chamber the last time he wasn't sweating or showed any fatigue. It might to do with his energy control. I think he might have some new trick up his sleeve when it comes to his power.

    My theory about Uub in DBS is that Weiss and the kais are gonna be scoping him out as a future God of Destruction candidate
    Uub is the reincarnation of Buu, destruction incarnate. Such boundless potential in the body of a young boy can be trained and molded for the day Beerus needs a successor
    Uub has the potential to be the strongest fighter since Gohan, wasting his character is criminal
    *stares at GT with disgust*

      The door relocates within the pocket dimension every 2 years (2 days in Earth Time). It doesn't give off any energy, so you wouldn't be able to find it easily. The farther away you are from the door, the more extreme the conditions are. However, I will point out that this no longer seems to apply, since Vegeta (and others) have been able to force their way out, by making their own door. Which... Is actually pretty insane. They are literally punching holes within space and time.

    Your reading of the ending of Z, taking all the lore of Super in account, is really cool, in my opinion. The melancholy of knowing pretty much all there is to know about the universe, it fits perfectly with Goku. The only slight problem I have is that you say he isn't being altruistic. We don't know that. It could be that he wants to train Uub for his own satisfaction, and at the same time because he realises that the Earth can't depend on Saiyans to keep them safe forever. Him training Uub how to fight him could be seen as him teaching Earth how to defend itself. Gone are the days when legendary Super Saiyans fought off evil Gods and Galactic Emperors, it's up to us humans now.
