      MasakoX What do you think of Dabura? Why do you think he wasnt considered for Universe 7's team? He is in heaven and we know he became kinder in heaven as a scene shows in the Buu arc when he is with Bulma and ChiChi in heaven so why not add him to the team instead of Krillin, Master Roshi and Tienshinhan

      It's almost as if Toriyama said (We have a lot of pink paint, so lets make a gumball character!) Kinda wish the gray buu would have kept his color to kid buu.

    • @JoseGarcia-rg3dx
      @JoseGarcia-rg3dx 7 лет назад +74

      I like to think that Mr. Satan is the manifestation of Toriyama's image, He's rich and famous and is well known the things he does, and fans everywhere expect so much from him to the point where they believe every word that he says regardless of whether or not it's a lie. That would explain why he likes the character so much, along with the self depricating humor he would use to describe himself in the Dr.Slump Manga.
      Maybe That's why Buu and Satan are best friends, Satan is how the people see Toriyama, Where as Buu Represents how he actually is, a creative, childish free spirit who prefers to do things how he wants, the way he wants it.

    Cell was the amalgamation of all the battles that Gohan took part of, but held his potential back and felt useless and/or that it was his fault that things didn't go as they should have gone. Fighting Cell was his redemption of sorts, fighting all of those past battles and coming to peace with himself. That's how I see it.

    I always loved how Goku and Cell share a similar personality. The resemblance is even more striking now that Goku endanger all the universe just to get his tournament. That's EXACTLY the same kind action Cell were pulling off, taking the earth hostage to force the Z warrior to outdo themselves and give him a good fight.
    Both want to get stronger, both want to have good fight, both don't mind all the lives put in jeopardy by their action.

    • @_Seru_
      @_Seru_ 7 лет назад +21

      Perfect Cell basically is an evil Goku. Perhaps that's why he's likable, at least for me :) He wanted to get stronger, he loved to fight powerful opponents and ultimately he respected Goku so much that he offered him a chance to eat a senzu bean and fight again. Goku vs Cell fight was somewhat unique - there was practically no hatred between those two, Goku clearly enjoyed their battle as much as Cell did.

      He's an evil Goku combined with notable aspects of Piccolo, Vegeta and Frieza, and created by the scientist of the Red Ribbon Army. That's all of Goku's past major enemies (nobody counts Pilaf as one, XD) That's what makes him so cool.

    I pretty much agree with Masako and Cell has always been my favourite villain.
    First, there is something I liked about all his designs, be it the alien/insect imperfect form, the more powerful looking semi-perfect, or the more elegant yet intimidating perfect form (the wings also really help in underlining his movements).
    His imperfect one was probably the most terrifying, the way he hunted and absorbed people. It was unsettling, in a way more fearsome than even a sadistic, planet destroying Freeza/Freeza/Frieza(have your pick). He wasn’t just a villain; there suddenly was a link in the food chain that was above us, and that idea alone, in addition with his more human traits, makes it so effectively unsettling.
    And I enjoy Perfect Cell just for the wonderfully smug bastard that he is. That scene alone when he walks into the TV-station, destroying the front of the building(along with half the city), leaving only the (still functioning) doors standing, calmly walks through them to politely ask where he can find the right studio. Or slapping Satan.
    Frieza (to me personally), always had a bit of ‘bratty child’-vibe that I kinda disliked, Buu in a way (in some forms anyway) always had something childlike, or changed personality so often due to absorption of others that it became meaningless and I just kinda lost interest in him as a character. I don’t think either of them or others like King Piccolo are bad villains, but I simply found myself enjoying Cell the most.
    I love that he has all/many of their techniques, strength and even characteristics, that all these things that made our heroes prevail is turned against them. Yet at the same time he has their flaws (sorry Cell), which is ultimately his downfall. After all, it are those very flaws, which work against our protagonists as well, be it Vegeta, Goku or Gohan. In a way he is an ideal villain.
    I personally would like to have seen a bit more…let’s say character growth and character motivation. When he reaches his perfect form, his motivation to fight is not that terribly interesting; it kina boils down to boredom and Gero’s/the computer's ‘programming’, when Cell was create. I really would have liked to see his origin play in a bit more.
    After all, he was artificially created, taught and ‘raised’ by a computer without interactions with living beings before ‘hatching’. His encounter with Piccolo might have been the first conversation he ever had. Especially following the absorption of the rather rebellious Androids, I would have loved to see him to deal with his place and purpose, maybe have a few more ‘human’ traits unsettle him. His creator thought of him as only a weapon, his perfect creation, but merely a tool in the end. I think it would have been interesting for Cell to question it more, the simplicity of his original purpose, to see if or how far he can outgrow Gero’s vision, have him plan more for after the tournament, which does not only involve more death and destruction.

      Cell is just the personification of everything that makes dragon ball cliché. There's no substance or forethought to his character. He's just "am strong because shonen"
      He's a ploy. Nothing more. Goku Black and Moro are better executed

    Cell is the Perfect villain. Let me make my case :
    He's got an incredible backstory. A creation of Dr. Gero, a man who the Z Warriors let get away. However, this Cell is from the future. So in fact, it is Cell who changes history forever, not Trunks.
    Cell is the combination of the cells of all the Z Warriors themselves. So in a sense, the Z Warriors greatest enemy is themselves. And hence to overcome this great evil, every one of them has to undergo significant changes throughout the arc.
    Goku, the protagonist who has never backed down from a challenge before, realises that this is one challenge he cannot overcome and gracefully accepts defeat, placing all his faith into the infinite potential of his son, Gohan.
    Vegeta is at the pinnacle of arrogance for long parts of this arc but then he is humbled and humiliated by Cell. He witnesses his son's death, driving him insane as to how he could be so selfish towards him while mere moments he had witnessed his arch rival give up his life to save the ones he loved. He does the only right thing, eventually, throws away his pride to give his rival's son a helping hand in his most dire moment, thus, shedding his ego for the greater good of his friends and family.
    Piccolo, while strong, understands that he is still no match for the rising dangers and decides to finally confront his past. He decides to merge with Kami, who is his polar opposite, once and for all, to become the single entity they once were, and for long stretches fights off Cell and the Androids alone so his fellow Z Warriors could prepare a greater plan of attack, all so he can protect Gohan, Goku and all who he has come to love and respect.
    Tien, Yamcha and Krillin understand their limitations and that they stand next to no chance against their enemies, yet they decide beyond their better judgement to stick on, and to fight till the end, even if it means their end.
    Gohan, who throughout the show has shown flashes of enormous potential that eclipsed even those of Goku, Vegeta and Frieza and yet at key moments, he would crumble under the pressure, and cause a great deal of harm, in fact even leading to his mentor, Piccolo's death at one point. However, at this stage, his father places all his hope on him, and when everything and everyone's life is at stake, he pulls through, digging deep, and unleashing his full power to take out the greatest foe to life, a life he loved, revered and would do anything to protect. Gohan had truly come off age and had shed his inhibitions and overcome his inner demons of doubt and anxiety to also overcome the demon in the real world known as Cell.
    All this brilliant character development would not have been possible had it not been for the concept of Cell, the perfect villain.

    No?

    As a biologist, I love Cell the most because of how much of his character makes sense. He's made of cells from other characters so he has their powers & personalities, he has insect-like qualities like exoskeleton and pierce-feeding (tail), and he can regenerate so he's the big bad that just... won't... die!!! When he was chasing 17 and 18, it was like Terminator. Wish he'll show up in future anime! Personally, I liked his first form the best.

    ...Yeah I think Cell is the best villain we have had. The ones that came after him seem to rung a bit hollow. He may not be the "perfect" villain, but he is PERFECT for a come back. There are so many things you can do with him! Go wild! Give him the access to the new transformations of Goku, Vegeta and Frieza! Have him fight against all the gods of destruction at once! Have him blow himself apart, come back as several individually reformed Cells and have them absorb each other a la Namekian style! Give us a villain that even the gods are afraid of!

      Same here. Villains who are not entirely, 100% evil, are more interesting for me. Obviously Cell was evil - however he was fully capable of doing some non-evil things, like sparing Vegeta and Trunks or allowing the Z Warriors to train. Frieza would never even comprehend something as "nice" as sparing his enemy.

  • @YamiSouru
    @YamiSouru 7 лет назад +55

    Honestly one thing i think would have been interesting for Perfect Cell would have been for him to accept his defeat with Grace and instead of going turbo mad and eventually losing the Kamehameha beam struggle he sticks around becoming Gohans vegeta. Or at least something close to it. Giving us and opportunity to have Perfect Cell get an arc where he 'discovers' that Perfection is the Path, not the Destination. If that makes sense. Also it'd force Gohan to stay on his toes which would've made it easier to transition him into primary protag.

    • @Bonkatsu12
      @Bonkatsu12 6 лет назад +1

      Interesting idea. But I think Gohan really needed the win here to assert that torch passing from Goku. A good comparison is Goku killing King Piccolo. That was the first time Goku literally saved the world and it really established him as Earths defender. Cell was built up way too much to just become a good guy afterwards. Maybe Gohan could have picked up his "Vegeta" in the next arc, but unfortunately the Buu saga happened.

      RedSpine Yea, i still like cell but that whiny self destruction thing be pulled was probably the frieza in him. Frieza is quick to do something petty if things are not going his way.

    • @AizensPlan
      @AizensPlan 5 лет назад +2

      That would have sucked ass. Cell surrendering would have been way out of character for him and Gohan forgiving him after killing Goku and Trunks would be way out of character for him. And don't forget all the murders Cell committed before he was perfect. All the humans he killed. If they had ended the saga with "Cool we're all friends now" that would have been awful.
      I like Cell and all, but as a bad guy. And that's what he should be.

    Don't get me wrong, Frieza was great (and I love his portrayal in DBZA), and so was Majin Buu, but I think Cell was the absolute best. He's pretty much a combination of everything the characters have come up against since the beginning, both good and bad, so if anything, they were not only fighting past villains, but also themselves, all packaged into a single character created from their DNA.
    What I also love about Cell is that he wasn't evil for the sake of being evil like Frieza was, he was a brilliant genius and had essentially a master plan for his motives, starting with absorbing the Androids, and then planning to destroy the Earth, but he wanted to see if it was truly possible if anything could stop him, so he created the Cell Games. I also like how he even follows the rules he created for his tournament and doesn't cheat like a villain typically would.
    Another reason is because of how he kept evolving as a villain, with there being a trigger for his form changes rather than simply changing them like Frieza did, which was that Cell needed to absorb Androids 17 and 18 to become perfect, and when he came back after Goku "killed" him and he lost the Androids, he had evolved to the point where he didn't need the androids anymore and was now MORE powerful than he was before. That's why he's such a great villain, he was not only malevolent, but definitely a formidable foe.

      What's funny is that detractors say Perfect Cell "had no motivation", when in fact, he had SEVERAL, all based around the genes within him. His motivations were partly Goku and Vegeta, partly Frieza, and even partly King Piccolo, but also based around the unique situation that was his own creation and "perfection". And then he came back from the dead and CHOSE to be an omnicidal maniac across the universe out of the newfound belief that this is his purpose, which I think is more effective than Buu just being created that way so that it literally IS his purpose.

      He was only perfect by design, Gero simply didn't care about his overall personality when he was recording his messages for Cell. In terms of sheer personality Imperfect Cell was actually "more perfect", that's pretty obvious. But then again, villains are always defeated in the end. I can't imagine the Z Warriors beating Cell with power of his perfect form and intelligence of his 1st form. He wouldn't spare Trunks or Vegeta, he wouldn't allow the Z Warriors to train, he'd just kill everyone - because that's what 1st form Cell would do if he had enough power.

    Cell is 2nd but I think Frieza during the Frieza saga will always be the best villain. You just can't beat the build up to Frieza and how far ahead of the Z warriors that he was. All the stories of how terrifying and powerful he was. Passing Krillin and Gohan for the first time and leaving them shaking. Then finally confronting him and asking yourself how the hell are we going to beat this guy? It's a shame that he was done to death.
    Cell was always kind of bested transformation to transformation until his perfect form. Even then it was only one fight before he was dominated by Gohan. He's a great villain, and brought forward some of the best moments in the series.

      @mihaimercenarul7467 7 лет назад +8

      Well, that was Frieza too. He was dominating as Cell until Goku transformed into ssj and then Frieza lost any chance of winning.
      Plus, yes Frieza was terrifying when he was introduced, but so Cell, when he was Imperfect, he was terrifying and everyone wanted to stop him from achieving his true power.

      Freeza definitely did more damage, but I think Cell is a more 'dangerous' villain over all. Freeza had that 1 bane and that was the Super Saiyan and so he desperately tries to control everything in the universe. But because there IS the Super Saiyan, he was pretty much was going to lose eventually. I mean he could've killed every one else in the universe and he'd still eventually be defeated.
      Cell pretty much knew no one was a match, and didn't do anything out of fear. He didn't want to conquer as he wanted to 'break' everyone both psychologically as well as physically (which is why he wants to beat Goku in a 'game' since everyone puts their hope in him), rendering him full control. Freeza can beat everyone else, but Cell would win the battle that really mattered. It was the existence of Gohan's power that blind-sighted him.

    *My personal favorite villain is still Frieza, but I do love Cell and deeply respect what he symbolizes in Dragonball's story.*
    I personally would've ended *DBZ* after Cell, with Goku staying dead to continue training (eventually unlocking SS 3) and protecting Otherworld from spiritual threats alongside Pikkon while Gohan becomes the leading-defender of Earth.
    He meets Videl just before the Cell Game, settling down with her years afterward and having Pan at age 18, then later becomes a professor. Despite being a busy father & husband, he reserves a couple hours every weekend to train.
    Pan, being born sooner, grows up as Kid Trunks' best friend (no Goten) and first female super saiyan, Piccolo often mentoring them when Gohan works. Goku at some point learns about ki-containment training from the Kai's rather than Whis ( *Super* doesn't happen) and trains to master SS Silver (a shiny silver version of SS Blue, skipping base-God form).
    Vegeta and Gohan achieve this too and Goku learns to summon himself into the living world for short periods, as long as his God-ki holds out. Pan grows into a teenage engineer for CEO Bulma at Capsule Corp., later meeting her grandfather and becoming his pupil while Vegeta trains Trunks. After all, their generation will someday be the next Z Fighters.
    Her adventures involve locating up-and-coming potentially gifted warriors (Ex- Uub at the martial arts tournament) to join her training with Goku and helping to protect Earth from new villains, all while she survives the perils of high school. Goku occasionally comes back to spend time with family or fight with the group in crises but does not return as the main lead.

      My only problem is there is no villain in your vision. I actually liked Buu, but I think they mishandled the plot once they killed off Gohan after they left to fight Kid Buu. Well, I mean Gohan was nerfed from the start of the Buu arc, but then they gave him a second chance and then snatched it away just to give Goku the finale, much like they gave Trunks the finale of the Goku Black arc. Both of which had asspull Spirit Bombs rather than epic finishes reflecting character development like with Cell.

    • @Justmyhandle

      OmegaPyron *New villains & arcs could be whatever you want, I just didn't want to make my comment longer by going into that. Of course, there would be new battles and characters introduced to help it develop.*
      *Ex-* In Otherworld, the original super saiyan Vegeta spoke of in the Namek saga exists as a spirit in Hell but his saiyan mind is so powerful that he manages to reform a body.
      He then hides in isolation for centuries, meditating to regain his memories and power. He senses the energies of many great fighters over generations, including Goku & friends, desperately longing for a worthy opponent.
      Eventually, in his solitude, he masters ki-containment and unlocks a blood-red version of SS Silver he dubs SS Crimson. He then transforms into an adapted Oozaru-form as he did once before in life (similar to SS 4 Gogeta but without the rings around the eyes).
      His energy is so much greater, it destroys the dimensional barrier between life & death, letting him invade the physical world during Goku's one free day spent back on Earth at the World Martial Arts tournament (around the time the Buu saga would have started).
      Everyone battles the saiyan, but even SS 3 Goku is no match, forcing him to have the group hold him off while he gathers the dragon balls at light-speed to summon Shenron, whom he asks for two wishes: *"Grow my tail back"* and *"Teach me about ki-containment fast".*
      Shenron grants both, and Goku receives a lightning-fast mental connection to the saiyan, to understand how he achieved his form. Knowing what he must do, even as his friends are being pulverized, Goku sits and meditates.
      After a few minutes, the saiyan senses and targets Goku, all hope seeming lost, until our hero finally transforms. He unlocks a temporary Golden-Ooozaru form of his own (like a Golden SS 4) and battles the saiyan in space to a draw.
      Satisfied at having fought a worthy foe, the saiyan's ki & body dissipate and the weakened Goku powers down, teleporting back to Earth with little time left from using up so much power.
      He says goodbye to his sad family, promising he'll be back, and returns to Otherworld, continuing to train in ki-containment while Gohan and Vegeta decide to start practicing it too.
      *There. that's just one idea. You can re-imagine existing arcs as well* (Resurrection F, Zamasu, Grand Priest, Baby, Shadow Dragons, etc), *however you see fit.*

    • @Justmyhandle

      +Dexis Yeah, I originally chose that number because the age of consent in Japan is 13 and it would put Pan closer to Kid Trunks' age. Being close friends and near-equal fighters would be more plausible (plus, they have to be of similar size & power for fusion). I just learned however, sexual activity in Japan is still prohibited under age 18.
      Gohan having Pan at 18 is fine, although she'd be at least three years younger than Trunks, making their almost equal ability and fusion more of a stretch (though *Super* 's Pan can already fly as a baby). As for Gohan, I imagine he'd actually not only be open to teenage fatherhood but be really good at it. He's incredibly mature for his age.
      Goku had Gohan with Chi Chi shortly after getting married at age 18, following the 23rd World Martial Arts tournament. *DBZ* starts only five years after the end of *Dragonball,* Gohan being four years old at the time, so I don't see two years making a big difference in Gohan's case. Think about how he's been brought up since the start.
      He's been home-schooled since early childhood, far more academically accomplished than his parents, and was admittedly usually more intelligent and dependable as a person compared to Goku as a warrior. Plus, the rich Hercule would DEFINITELY insist on helping Gohan & Videl care for Pan in her early years and get their own place.
      He wouldn't be able to resist doting on her, as he absolutely adores his granddaughter. Gohan would no doubt get a job soon after, his employers would notice his talent, then he'd move up to becoming a scholar and professor. Despite being mildly younger, Gohan would be an excellent husband & dad. As said, this is only my personal idea.

    The Android/Cell saga was the last arc that made Piccolo, one of my favorite characters, badass. Piccolo had the best fight of his entire run against Android 17, and he really helped sell just how strong Cell was by getting his ass beaten easily after the fight when, not 24 hours before, Piccolo was wiping the floor with the bug-man. Piccolo never was as active as a fighter after that. He was frozen by Dabura for the first third of the Buu saga, maimed a physically weak Babidi, spent a great deal of time arguing with Gotenks, and spent the remaining third of the arc being a part of Buu. Piccolo was pretty much reduced to comic relief at that point. But the Cell saga was truly the point since his introduction as Demon Jr. that Piccolo was actually SCARY to fight, which made Cell, by comparison, outright HORRIFYING.

  • @gokuvsusagitsukino5479
    @gokuvsusagitsukino5479 7 лет назад +74

    Honestly I found Cell to be the most dull and forgettable DBZ villain. I honestly found the Cell Saga to be kind of bland most of the time. maybe it's because I don't like Gohan all that much, maybe because it was the writing. I only think Imperfect Cell was honestly engaging as a villain. He was creepy, and just unsettling. As he grew...he honestly got more boring as he 'evolved'. I have never been able to figure out the exact reason I don't like the Cell Saga much, but I think it's because of Cell himself.
    I may get hate for this, but I think Buu was the best.
    Buu managed to undergo some very nice character development, and did so during his run as a villain. That helped make him stand out more as a character and as a more complex villain than most, and the whole thing about him being like “a naughty little child that didn’t know any better” made Buu’s motives unique and very engaging, and learning about morality from Hercule Satan helped with both becoming more interesting. That, plus his jolly personality, managed to be both creepy and surprisingly adorable at the same time, which made him rather engaging.
    Then we have Super Buu and the stuff he caused. I think he was a bit more interesting than Cell to be honest, but not as engaging as Fat Buu. Super Buu being the evil from Buu worked very well, and in a nice twist on the Kami/Piccolo fission, the evil one managed to absorb the good one. This left him with the inability to harm Mr. Satan, which alone gave him a lot more depth than most Dragon Ball villains. Then you have his absorption forms, and this is where I think, again I enjoyed him more than Cell. Each were different, from cocky with Gohan’s power, to clever with Piccolo’s it felt like one that truly grew as they absorbed more. Also, I think being turned into candy and being eaten is a MUCH more terrifying way to go than just being absorbed by Cell. Heck, if Vegeto is any indication, you are still fully conscious when you're being eaten, so that means you would feel him chewing you up and swallowing. The whole absorption kept the character changing, and as a result made him remain interesting
    Finally, we have Kid Buu, and while he is destruction for destruction’s sake, he is still rather good. He comes off more as a feral animal who can destroy planets, which was pretty cool and a bit more interesting than Super Buu. I still enjoyed Super Buu, but he was the weakest of the 3 personality wise. Plus, since he was defeated by a Spirit Bomb, which was one of Mr Satan’s greatest moments as well, it was EVERYONE who helped beat Buu. Not just Goku, not just Gohan, but EVERYONE was able to help since it was the Spirit Bomb.
    So Buu is hilarious, terrifying, effective, and had some character development.

      Yes, I absolutely agree with you, save a few points. I agree that Super-Buu was pretty boring, but IMHO he makes up for it tenfold in that scene where he has to wait for Goten and Trunks to finish training, where Piccolo tries to bargain with him and Buu just ends up killing all of humanity in an instant. I think the only thing that could make Buu more interesting is if somehow he was designed in a way that he's halfway in between being a naive child and a mindless animated blob of goo, rather then a kid made of goo. I don't know if that makes any sense, but w/e.
      Also I'm not sure if I would rank him as the #1, Freeza's pretty good too.

      Buu is my favorite in the series for reasons I made in a earlier comment, plus everything you said. More than that, though, is my belief that he is actually capable to do more. To be stronger than he believes he can be. He is this unpredictable entity that if Toriyama wanted could end up being as strong as the gods! Because of his childish demeanor, though, all that potential is suppressed and hidden away. With enough concentrated focus and experience, that could change.

    I think Cell's perfection is his biggest flaw. His arrogance and part Saiyan biology would cause him to get cocky and pay the price. I think ironically Imperfect cell was closer to perfection than perfect cell was. Imperfect was level headed, smart, clever, tricky, a great tactician, and had complete focus on his goal. If imperfect cell had the same power level as perfect cell, he really would've been the closest to his goal of perfection imo

      I actually noted that in another comment - when Cell became Semi-Perfect, and then Perfect, he gained more self-consciousness about that perfection, which caused him to break down when faced with defeat (first by Vegeta as Semi-Perfect Cell, then by Gohan as Perfect Cell). It's a nice touch of dramatic irony that Cell probably could have survived and gone on to bigger and better things if he HADN'T sought the "perfection" he desired through absorbing 17 and 18.

    Another point about cell is how he emphasised how great of a concept Zenkai boosts are. Often when I'm watching anime like Bleach or inuyahsa I see a main character recovering from a near death beatdown and find myself thinking "Well, atleast he's stronger now" then having to remind myself that Zenkai boosts are just a thing for sayains in dragonball, I even felt Buu was a lesser threat because he DIDN'T get stronger after every regeneration like cell did (which considering what kid buu was doing once he figured out instant transmission, would have been INSANE to imagine how powerful he'd be by the time he found goku and vegeta.)

      I prefer cell, but I can agree that I think freeza is the less least interesting of the series. Cell to me was a weak villain when he showed up, but his lack of power was avenged by his creepiness and his ability to absorb people. He literally wiped out city after city to become more powerful, and I think its better to have a goal so you can get more powerful then just doing it like frieza. He also pretty much what made vegeta lose most of his pride. Sure frieza made vegeta lose his pride and even made him cry, but frieza was literally just dodging his attacks which made vegeta lose hope. Cell on the other hand in his perfect form tanked vegeta's most powerful attacks and didn't even flinch except for the final flash and while he was doing this, he was mocking vegeta and making fun of him. Also, I love how cell is boasted and shown to be almost unstoppable, being able to tank a final flash, a kienzhan, a point blank kanehameha, and still come back kicking, not to mention like masako said, he pretty much killed goku and came back from almost nothing. Gohan's fight was symbolic as fuck and I loved it. Buu is my second fav because I god damn loved his super and kid buu forms. His super buu form got smarter with each absorption, and his attacks and violent acts were so sinister, it trumps everything frieza had ever done. I would say cell is just under him in sinister since he did torture the z fighters with his cell jrs just to see gohan try. I love buu's attitude and his actions, and I especially love his personality as buuhan. Like cell, he was that person who we had to think how are we gonna beat this guy, and they literally had to depower him to defeat him. Frieza to me was good, but he was space hitler and was predictable. We knew if he came across someone on namek they would be killed and he was powerful, but his fight was too long and he powered up by pulling shit out of his ass, and he keeps coming back it's annoying. Cell and buu are unpredictable and thats why I like them the most.

    The buu saga was the worst. Gohan, the hero of the previous arc, and my favorite z fighter at that point, had been reduced to a gag character, Videl is probably the most annoying character in Z, kid Trunks is lame, especially in comparison to his adult counterpart. Goten even existing makes no sense unless goku was allowed some bull shit conjugal visit because he's such a great guy ex machina. And Gotenks had so much potential to actually be cool, and he was just as bad as Saiyaman. The only good thing that came out of it was the Goku vs Vegeta rematch. Majin Buu was lame until he absorbed Gohan and then sucked all over again when he became kid buu. The Cell arc was conclusive. It should have ended there.....

    • @Goblin_Hands
      @Goblin_Hands 7 лет назад +2

      Gohan was ubernerfed (the first of many times sadly), but they almost gave him a second chance until they took it away...Still, Super Buu was pretty badass when he absorbed everyone, especially Gohan. Forced the creation to the almighty Vegito. But then the whole thing was ruined when they ditched their sons to fight Kid Buu and give us the asspull Spirit Bomb ending.
      I actually found Gotenks to be more annoying than either Kid Trunks or Goten, both of which were much more annoying than Videl. Videl was only annoying when she kept whining that Gohan had died. Kid Buu was pretty annoying too in all honesty, but people still love him. Fat Buu was annoying too, but when he got mad it was actually pretty enjoyable to watch.
      Personally, I find the Frieza arc the worst because it simply bores me watching it. It drags on and on...But what they did with Gohan in the Buu Arc was unforgivable. Yeah, pretty sure that makes the Cell/Android Arc the best.

    The Cell saga still remains my all-time favorite DBZ arc so I praise the editors for keeping Toriyama within his lane. Otherwise we probably would've never gotten the badass Gohan that we all grew up with. It's definitely easy to see the huge jump between Cell and Buu sagas in terms of story and transformations that led to very little. As much as I love SSJ3 and the fusions, the focus of the Cell saga blows the randomness of the Buu saga away.
    Now if only that focus would return in Super...

    Sorry, but personally Cell isn't a perfect villain. I know many people love Cell and even more with his abridge version but to me he's sorta like an upgraded Frieza. Especially in his "perfect" form. I mean it would be interesting if he made an attack that no fighters has ever seen before. Or maybe a combination of techniques like a Galihameha or a Solar Disk which is a combination of the Destructo Disk and the Solar Flare. The opponents will be blinded by the disks as it hurls towards them. Something like that from him.

    From a structural standpoint, Perfect Cell is one of the best examples of the classic Hollywood sequel trend toward raising the stakes by introducing a villain that incorporates aspects of previous villains while also transcending them with his own unique potential. He reminds me a lot of Rugal from the first two King of Fighters games. After a series of villains, each one better than the last, you then get this guy who is even better than all of them combined. He's so memorably badass that, even after stronger and more relevant villains come along, everyone still looks back to Rugal as the biggest and the best. It's similar with Cell, too.

    Sorry but I disagree.
    What do Broly, Cell, Kid Buu, Super Buu, Frost, the Red Ribbon army, Cold, Cooler, Freeza have in common?
    They're evil and they acknowledge it. Some of them don't give a crap, other enjoy it.
    If the point is having a perfect villain? Freeza is cruel, and his pride and martial arts principles aren't as important to him as they are to Cell. He's the ultimate "evil and loving it" villain. If not him then...
    Zamasu/Goku Black?
    He's the only villain who thinks he's the hero, and everyone else is the villain.
    That makes him even more dangerous.

      But Goku Black/Zamasu never seemed to pose much of a real threat. Goku and Vegeta were fine and could pretty much just end it whenever they wanted with the god button. It was kind of disappointing. Cell was great, he straight up killed Goku and left the rest of the Z fighters to save the Earth and pretty much everything. The stakes were high and they were real.

    And as for Perfect Cell, he is my favorite. I acknowledge why Frieza is important, and King Piccolo was awesome in Dragon Ball. But Cell to me thus far takes the cake. personally I think cell became one of the most generic dragon ball villains when he got his perfect form. He was like "I will destroy the world if I win the tournament." He really wasn't a big villain in my opinion. Killing trunks and make the cell jrs destroy the z fighters was the most evil thing he did. Sure when he absorb the humans that is awfully evil yeah no doubt but he's a bioandroid , he did that because he had to (storywise perspective , morally speaking he's a monster ) but when he became perfect he had no need to do the tournament or anything , he was complete he achive his purpose in life. But hey we need a story and to see a lot of plot holes , inconsistencies , Goku being Goku and the z fighters be the z fighters . Also Gohan ssj2

    Goku's death could have easily been avoided no matter how I analyze it. In the amount of time it takes for him to explain it to King Kai he could have easily flash-stepped over to him, Bubbles, and Gregory and teleport them to a place of safety with plenty of seconds to spare. Look, I'm all for a noble dearth, but a pointless noble death is where I draw the line. Look, I know he's an idiot an all, but bear in mind, when Goku's life is on the line he's good at pulling a miracle out of his ass, take for example how he got off Namek before it blew up. That coupled with his lame-ass excuse of not wanting to be revived when he could have, basically deserting his wife and son(s) made me lose all respect for Goku. This is why I like Vegeta more than Goku.

      Woah woah woah....your reason for liking Vegeta over Goku is because Goku sacrificing himself despite the fact everything he said was true (piccolo jr, raditz, Vegeta and nappa , frieza, 5 androids and cell all came into existence or targeted earth because they held a grudge on Goku) ..but you respect Vegeta more because...he obviously cared for his wife and child (totally went to look for them when 20 nearly blew up bulma's spaceship...and his son who came from the future totally didn't save his mother and himself....Vegeta also totally didn't sell his soul to a magician named babidi and didn't destroy half a stadium where he could've easily killed bulma, yamcha, chichi ,etc because he had a grudge against Goku for surpassing him)...Vegeta's sacrifice against buu was also not meaning less because he totally couldn't have avoided it of he listened to Goku and went after buu together with Goku...his death couldn't be avoided at all and his sacrifice did accomplish
      ... something...idk what...but I'm pretty sure it did something...

    The perfect villain for a series is going to be one that completes the theme of the story and serves as a perfect antithetical representation of the rest of the cast. Which is a little too complicated for Toriyama. Freeza probably comes the closest, since he served the perfect role to counter point Goku's entire world view, to the point that Goku had to break as a person, to the point that he wasn't even sure if he could restrain himself from attacking his own son he was so enraged. I think the only reason Cell is peoples' favorite is just because that's what was playing on CN when people hit the nostalgia goggle ages of 11-14. He was at his most interesting in his Imperfect form. Perfect Cell is just bargain bin Freeza. He doesn't even have a motivation or point in the overall story of the series, beyond just wanting to fight.

    • @azuresaiyan9005
      @azuresaiyan9005 6 лет назад +51

      I vehemently disagree. Cell was in many ways a perfect combination of everything that came before. He not only had all their techniques, but also all of their character traits and up until his demise used those to his advantage. His ultimate downfall being him succumbing to all the weaknesses his materials have, Vegeta's hubris, Goku's laidback attitude, Freeza's desperation, etc. He's not a villain you can develop on like Freeza, but he works well as a final battle if you will because he sort of brings alot of things full circle. It was also refreshing to have a villain who was methodical in his debut rather than immediately arrogant.
      It's not all nostalgia, and frankly, that tone you give off is rather demeaning. I'm surprise you don't like Cell more, he and you seem to have a lot in common. lol

      +Azure Saiyan
      He's pointing out flaws in a villain who is a favorite for some, a demeaning tone is bound to happen. Suck it up, buttercup. -sorry for the demeaning tone-
      _"He's not a villain you can develop on like Freeza ..."_ No, it's the opposite. Cell is the *exact villain* you can develop on. Freeza cannot get much development as a character since he is the most powerful and does not struggle. Freeza is the same character at the beginning as he is at the end. Cell on the other hand struggles a lot and is a clean slate, he has lots of room to develop. To have Cell turn into an arrogant villain who believes he's achieved perfection is infuriating. Cell had an actual arc going on but he immediately transitioned into a mustache twirling, or a "bargain bin Freeza".
      I do not believe that nostalgia is why certain people like Cell. Not entirely anyways. There is one thing Cell Arc has that could be considered "quality": Gohan's coming-of-age story. Certain people, mostly young boys, wanted Gohan to be the protagonist but for reasons I pointed out above this was an artificial transition. Instead of giving Gohan a unique threat that beat everyone else before, he got a bargain bin Freeza. To top it off, Gohan achieved a higher level of SSJ to beat Cell. YAWN! However if you really wanted Gohan to be the hero then you most likely would not care.
      Just look at how you explained Cell: he has Vegeta's hubris, Goku's laid-back attitude, Freeza's desperation(?), apparently having these traits because of genetic material stolen from powerful characters in Dragon Ball. Those traits in Goku and Vegeta are not *WHAT* they are, it's *WHO* they are. They developed those traits over time. This does not make Cell a "perfect combination of everything before" but instead a contrived and forced combination of everything before. There's no deep poetry going by having Cell succumb to the exact weaknesses he exploited immediately before, it sounds good on paper but that's all.
      I have even more problems with the Cell Arc but I will just address the issues brought up.

    • @extragirth64
      @extragirth64 6 лет назад +8

      +Supa Paduke
      I could say Freeza was better foreshadowed because the mystery of Goku's tail from the very beginning turned out to be because he's a part of an alien race that works for a Space Emperor.
      And in case you do not know, most people watching and reading Dragon Ball after Freeza had no clue who the Red Ribbon Army were. For the Saiyans and Freeza, you just have to know Goku had a tail which we see has been passed onto his son. Not only that but Red Ribbon Army does not surround something as important as Goku's tail, that being Goku himself and his origin.

      You must be joking. There is no difference between Freeza and the RRA in. Goku cares about them equally in that regard. Goku was even willing to give Gero a fighting chance by not using the dragon balls to prematurely win. To Goku they are both opponents.
      I think finding out about your heritage would be high on anyone's list. Goku even found out he was the one who killed his grandpa

    Seeing Cell return in the dub, with the "Perfect Cell Returns" theme playing was horrifying as a child.
    And I love Cell not only for his various character traits, but also because of his voice actors, both Japanese and the dub. Wakamoto and Dameon Clarke fucking nail it.

    That's probably why I like the Buu arc so much, wow. Nice!

    You could say Gohan fighting Cell is also a reference to Akira's original idea for Z. That being because Gohan not only took the lead, but also fought a villain that is a mixture of previous big bads in the series (and Goku). In the going part, you could say he was finally taking the lead role from his father, and surpassing him.
