    I love 90's Schwinns . I used to have a 1999 Schwinn Moab 1 that had same colors yours has but not the same style. I have returned to watch this video 4 times now and it finally hit me. The way your is painted is like the 90's Bontrager Privateer/Racelights . I now know what color I'm painting the 1988 Tech Nova in the spring, just like your Schwinn but I'll gold pinstripe the transitions. thank you for the video and inspiration ,cheers !

    Love it. I'm a 3x guy, and IMHO 3x9 is the ultimate. Love this genre of bike. Faithful and versatile.

    I bought a 2015ish cannondale quick that had been neglected. It was $100 with lots of bird poop I cleaned off. It had the lowest end tourney 3x7 and I upgraded to 9 speed and I like it. My rear cassette is only 26 cogs but it's totally fine as my smallest option up front is 24. So it's low enough and has tight gear ratios. My best commuter ever.

    The black M510’s and black seatpost look good. Bet the ride is excellent.

    A flex home is pretty cheap and does a good job of cleaning up the inside of a seat tube.

    Good video as always, really liked how you converted the 7 speed hub to 9 speed, i didnt know that was possible. Still dont like 3x’s though!

    Best practice is to use a torque wrench to attach the cranks to a square taper. Also surprised you didn’t use a dishing gauge to see how far the rear wheel was from center.

    • @DePuesshop
      @DePuesshop  4 дня назад +1

      Good point on the cranks. As far as the wheel, I never changed the axle relationship with the hub, so the wheel was still centered in the frame. The cassette was a little closer to center than the old one.

    Just bought a 1995 (catalog year) Gary Fisher Marlin (rigid with 3x7). for gravel roads and rail trails. Why might I prefer converting it to 3x9? I'd enjoy that project. Similary, I upgraded my 3x11 road bike's cassette from11-25 to 11-34with the payoff being better climbing. What would be the expected payoff for upgrading my Gary Fisher to 3x9?.

      You ask the right question. I have a 3X7 and was wondering the same thing. I just put new rear cogs on it and went through the bearings. It seems like you have to change a lot of parts to go to 3X9 with minimal improvement.

    • @DePuesshop
      @DePuesshop  5 дней назад +1

      Good question. In this case, I had a really nice 3x9 Deore groupset that is much higher quality and newer than the Acera 3x7. I feel like this is an upgrade.

      @@DePuesshop Either one would be an upgrade for me. I bought an old Schwinn Criss-Cross for $25. I replaced the Suntour S-1 derailleurs with an Altus front derailleur and a Shimano Tourney rear derailleur. I also replaced the 7 speed Suntour freewheel with a Shimano. Tourney is the bottom of the line, but it seems to work.

    I tried the freehub swap thing once but it didn't work. The wheel was no longer centered in the rear dropouts (and no, I didn't alter the axle cone position). It would require me to redish the wheel to make it work which I was not prepared to do. It's weird...I've seen guys do the 7-to-9 swap without re-dishing and I've seen guys try to do it (like me) and fail.

    • @DePuesshop
      @DePuesshop  6 дней назад

      That's odd. All the ones I've done worked. I wonder what was different. 🤔

    • @-RM-
      @-RM- 5 дней назад +1

      @@DePuesshop Not sure. But I will likely just go for a wide range 7spd cassette on that bike instead of trying to go to the 8-11 speed freehub.

      Yes, the only thing I changed was the freehub assembly. I kept the location of the lock nuts in the same spot.

      @@DePuesshop They do by 1 millimetre on the drive side , which you didn't admit to . I did this task last night for a client with an RM -30 Shimano rear hub . I fine adjusted both sides with respect to cone position and locknuts . The re dishing could be 0.5 millimetres also but only if the non drive axle spacers are changed . With the original spacers and nuts , the amount of axle protruding decreases by 0.5 millimetres on each side .

    Hm, eigentlich hättest du auch gleich auf 1:11 fach gehen können. Die 11 fach Kassette passt auf den 9 fach Freilauf. Vorne eine 32 er Kurbel
    Und das Ding rockt. Warum du da altes geraffel gegen noch älteres geraffel ausgetauscht hast, kapiere ich nicht. Die Federgabel hättest du gegen die RockShox xc 30 tauschen können.
    Die hat 100mm Federweg und einen Lockout,was ganz wichtig ist. Wenn man ein altes Bike upgraden tut,dann gegen moderne Teile,wie auch die billig Bremsen. Da hätte ich V brakes von alivio verbaut mit XT Bremsbeläge.
