The greatest receiver of all time talks about catching the football in his fingers. Science shows that Jerry Rice catches the football with his fingers.
No doubt! Met him at an Airport in 2012. He stopped and took pictures with my entire Army Reserve unit. He even took out some Super Bowl rings and let some of us wear them in pics!! I was the first one to get his picture and didn't want to hold him up. Then everyone in my unit knew he was Jerry Rice 😂. They stopped him but he didn't mind at all.
Jerry Rice is hands down ,the greatest wide receiver I've ever seen. He was a great route runner;he had phenomenal hands...he rarely dropped a pass that hit him in his hands...and he was a great blocker and teammate. Very humble for a super star.
I remember reading an article about special forces training instructors (who were WW2 combat veterans). The trainee had expected the instructors to have really nasty voices. But instead, they were calm, spoke softly but clearly, and were always teaching. Just non-stop teaching, with patience and good humor. Hollywood just makes us believe that "bad-asses" have to talk a certain way, screaming, ranting. That's just useless posturing by guys trying to aspire to leadership but are merely covering up their inadequacies. A true "bad-ass" doesn't have to posture. He simply *is*. The sharpest knives are the quietest.
Thanks Jerry for the tip. I am training and learning as much as I can right now so when I try out for SJSU football in 2 years I hope to make the team. Tip: Catch the ball with your fingers rather than the palm of your hands. Tip: LEARN FROM THE BEST!
The most important factor to catching the ball, and Jerry Rice agree's, is watching the ball into your hands. This is a fundamental technique that is often overlooked and separates the winners from the ball droppers.
This dude's work ethic is amazing, he looks like he can still play today. I think he's more than just the greatest wideout of all-time, but also the greatest football player of all-time -- but... when it comes to just pure catching ability, nobody was better than Cris Carter.
I'm sorry but the greatest football player of all time belongs to Walter Payton. He can run, block, pass, catch & only missed 1 game his entire career despite being small. Jerry is the greatest wideout of all time, but greatest football player ever belongs to sweetness Walter Payton. Nobody comes close to Walter's skills ability dead or alive.
Catching bricks made your hands strong, Jerry. That's why you can catch the ball with your fingers, without letting it bounce off your palms. You're sort of right, but you discount the strength you built up catching bricks, even though catching a football is different technique.
I read that article many years ago in Reader's Digest. He didn't say he learned how to catch footballs by catching bricks. He stated that it helped strengthen his hands. He would work summers with his dad, who was a brick layer and his dad would toss him bricks, which he would catch and toss to the next person. It's called a "brick brigade".
@itwaslikethatalready loved this comment. Keep in mind though, that was just his receiving yards. he has another 600 plus rushing. He averaged something like 7.2 yards a run.
When Randy and Chris were both on the Vikings at the same time. Randy was thrown at less times than Chris and yet still caught more passes, more yards, and more touchdowns.
Jerry Rice and Reggie Miller are probably the two athletes that are still in GREAT shape today. I think both those guys could play in the NFL and NBA today.
It didn't hurt that for 20 years he did "The Hill" and would work until sundown almost every practice to get everything in his routes picture perfect. I do agree with you that Carter had better hands, but it's not by much. They both made some great catches and were prototypical possession receivers.
To validate your point, when the 49ers played the Broncos in the Super Bowl, rice caught a touchdown where he bounced off of Bronco safety Steve Atwater to get into the end zone. I bring this up as validation because the 49ers knew that the Broncos were not a tackling secondary; they were more concerned with hitting. Rice caught the pass, absorbed and bounced off Atwater's hit, and just about walked into the end zone with Atwater on the ground looking around for him.
He actually did play in this league only 8 years ago and he was still catching over 1000 yards. Jerry Rice's and Randy Moss's careers overlapped by 8 years actually
I'm not disagreeing with anyone on here, but megatron is 27 years old. Jerry was 42 years old when he retired. If anyone is going to beat any of Rice's records, it's Calvin. GO LIONS
True, CJ is better than JR. But i believe that when CJ's career is over, JR will still stand as the best WR ever to play the game. Jerry was productive almost his entire career (20 yrs!!) and he played most of it in a league that wasn't quarterback-driven, unlike today. Meaning, CJ, like many other great WRs today, has had the advantage of playing in an era with, not only extremely talented QBs, but a league that favors the passing game as well. Let's see if CJ will ever have 22,895 rec yards.
All great players are going to say they are the best. Rice was definitely the best and Moss is number 2 for sure, i cant say Moss was better than Rice but it would have been interesting to see what Moss could have done if he was catching passes from two of the greatest qbs of all time in montana and young, and you see what Moss did when he finally played with a hall of fame qb.
not only is jerry rice the best reciever, he is the greatest player to play football ever out of every position, as ranked by NFL network, followed by jim brown.
Kris Danielson bold statement!!! in the current climate of worshipping all things manning, and assigning him the greatest, II believe brady is this generations stand out qb. in any discussion of who is the greatest qb of all time, I have to go Montana 1, maybe brady 2.
Brady isn't even done his career he still has at least 3 more years, has over 50k passing yards 389td passes 3 Super Bowls went to 5 though and he was a sixth round pick
Kris Danielson I don't disagree, big fan of brady. just think Montana tops him. maybe its my bias, Montana's season by season stats probably don't best brady's, but its in the clutch when everything is on the line I think Montana shades it. if you had to pick a qb to make a final 80yards in the last minute and your life depended on it, I'm going Montana everytime. I don't now if the stat even exists, but it would be interesting to see who has the most last minute drives for victory in regular and post season especially. off the top of my head cannot think of another qb who has done that to win a superbowl, I think things like that add to the Montana legend.
Don Hutson never played against black players in the secondary like Deion Sanders, which is not his fault but that would've changed the course of his career. He had all day to run around. In the modern era, Jerry Rice got those numbers playing in an era where there was no penalty for helmet to helmet hits or personal fouls for hitting a defenseless receiver. I don't think there's any real debate that Jerry Rice is the greatest of all time.
Matt stafford is good, and calvin is really benefiting stat wise by being on the lions. Even though the team is terrible, most of the offense is run through him so he gets alot more passes. Trust me if he was on the patriots, even with a better qb, im sure his stats would drop.
Lol 3 days after the super bowl he was practicing! He's the goat Best work ethic Holds every wide receiver record Voted #1 by nfl Everyone in modern nfl has fancy sticky gloves Back then everybody used stick um
i'd absolutely love Megatron to leave Detroit in pursuit of a ring! Give him to Brady and they can chock up a few more SBs before Brady retires :P And when you think about it, if you put calvin on the pats right now, you've got Calvin and Amendola and a pack of rookies (with potential, but still rookies) so honestly I would still expect him to rack up atleast 1600+ yards as brady's go-to-guy with the pats if he was with them this season.
@Moerab the fact that im not from detroit dosent mean anything. i never said calvin johnson wasent a beast, and im pretty sure fitzgarald would put of better numbers then everybody, every year if he had even a decent QB. and andre Johnson has been amazing for a long time as well. those 3 guys are in a league all there own.
Annnd as usual,Drew Brees is the exception to the rule.He was on the cover of the game, and the last time I checked Number 9 is still an effective NFL Quarterback.
@MrKevthetube To contrary belief, colds are caused by viral infections, which become airborne through coughing and sneezing, and NOT BY CLIMATE. Trust me, I live in Phoenix. That's just an old "Wives' Tale".
Clannademe you should only catch with your hands because it may nock the wind out of you if you catch with your chest and also it won't bounce out if you catch with your hands

it's been so long since i've seen jerry rice catch, i almost forgot how good he was. class act and one of the best athletes the nfl has ever known.
he has the softest voice. did not expect
I remember reading an article about special forces training instructors (who were WW2 combat veterans). The trainee had expected the instructors to have really nasty voices. But instead, they were calm, spoke softly but clearly, and were always teaching. Just non-stop teaching, with patience and good humor.

Lol he didn't have to talk loud . He's accomplishments SCREAM
He didnt use stickum in this but he still could make impressive catches.. And stickum totally affected his running ability...
Obvi don't play football lol
you my friend have amazing sarcasm
'Science validates my instincts'. Sweet line
That shit went so hard
yeah rice had better quarterbacks than moss, but he did last longer in the NFL. he was very productive at the end of his career.
Matthew Chow moss had culpepper and Brady
Yeah moss had pretty good quarterbacks
Thanks Jerry for the tip. I am training and learning as much as I can right now so when I try out for SJSU football in 2 years I hope to make the team. Tip: Catch the ball with your fingers rather than the palm of your hands. Tip: LEARN FROM THE BEST!
It’s been 10 years. Did you make the team?
The most important factor to catching the ball, and Jerry Rice agree's, is watching the ball into your hands. This is a fundamental technique that is often overlooked and separates the winners from the ball droppers.
omg don't you guys just love this 4k video quality
"Science... it validates my instincts."
Yeah... instincts meaning bad-assery to the epic max...
God i love how Rice explains this the way it should be, catching a football a million different ways is truly an art form
This dude's work ethic is amazing, he looks like he can still play today. I think he's more than just the greatest wideout of all-time, but also the greatest football player of all-time -- but... when it comes to just pure catching ability, nobody was better than Cris Carter.

@@cesarcanete3402 I would argue that Barry Sanders is the best at running the football of all time
Randy must have given up on the route to the sports science stadium.
I was expecting Lynn Swann when he said -- the greatest.
lmao why
Catching bricks made your hands strong, Jerry. That's why you can catch the ball with your fingers, without letting it bounce off your palms. You're sort of right, but you discount the strength you built up catching bricks, even though catching a football is different technique.

The jerry rice interview on Howard Stern made me like Jerry even more then I already did.
Classy insanely talented guy.
12345balla12345 not really that talented. He just outworked everyone
@@отпирайтеright, being a star receiver requires no talent at all, neither does running after the catch.
Tropic Mix in an nfl scale he wasnt crazy talented. He just worked harder than anyone
Jerry still looks like he can give you a good quarter and some TD's,,,, Looking good there Jerry....
That's also hard work and a lifetime of staying in shape. He still trains as hard now as he did during his playing days.
Easy for you to say... Hall of Famer.
P.S. Those gloves are alot of help too; not taking anything away from Rice.
Loved watching him in college, I figured that he would be great
GREATEST FOOTBALL PLAYER OF ALL TIME HE JUST HAPPENED TO BE A RECEIVER
hmmm, from his last comments it sounds like Jerry Rice had the stickiest hands in the NFL.
Jerry's records of receptions, TDs and yardage will never be touched. Best PLAYER to ever grace the gridiron.
Whoever does break his record will have to stay in the league for 20-plus years.
jerry rice greatest wide receiver ever
Wish I got into football while in his prime. Seems like most top WR have huge egos. This guy GETS it.
Jerry Rice is “The Science”! You can’t argue with “The Science”. I heard some little troll in a white coat say that a while back.
The guy is crazy gifted he;s going to still be able to that kind of stuff when he 80 years old.
The greatest receiver to ever play the game. There will never be another Jerry Rice, not even close
Jerry Rice could still be a top 5 receiver today
The greatest. Period.
Hopefully the NFL will release a collection titled: Jerry Rice's 10 greatest games, so that people that didn't get to see him play get a chance.
good job taking a stand for what you believe in
It didn't hurt that for 20 years he did "The Hill" and would work until sundown almost every practice to get everything in his routes picture perfect. I do agree with you that Carter had better hands, but it's not by much. They both made some great catches and were prototypical possession receivers.
Damn. Even science confirms that Jerry Rice is a bad-ass at catching.

can someone tell me the name of this movie or show? thanks
jerry rice seems like the nicest guy
Great video and thanks for sharing!!!!
YAY! THIS HELPS! THANKS!
Jerry looks like he could still go out there and put up average numbers at least!
At least a 1k 10td season
He might beat the records but will never be the best... No ones work ethic will match his. Yac!
Not even Terrell owens
He actually did play in this league only 8 years ago and he was still catching over 1000 yards. Jerry Rice's and Randy Moss's careers overlapped by 8 years actually
That's just called ability. Some of it's God-given, most of it is because Jerry never, EVER took a day off. This is why he is the best.
Science validates my instincts...Jerry Rice will always be the greatest
Jerry rice, god of the wide receivers
Man, Jerry sure hasn't let himself go
Calvin Johnson had a pretty good year when he was on the cover.
I'm not disagreeing with anyone on here, but megatron is 27 years old. Jerry was 42 years old when he retired. If anyone is going to beat any of Rice's records, it's Calvin. GO LIONS
@TheGame5050. I'd have to agree, Moss is more my style of reciever. He's also my favorite everr
he seems like a nice guy
Where was this tasted? Great link, and well, I think we didn't need science to prove that Rice was beyond all other WR born to date
He still runs "The Hill" if you guys know what i'm talking about. Jerry runs up a hill to stay in shape. This guy has had the best work ethic.
The man still got it greatest player of all time

Yeah, Odell wouldn't have made that catch without some fuckin' gloves on his hands.

k
Taelan Baylor Lmao nah ur just salty
Taelan Baylor ive done it before so I know
Taelan Baylor all I needed was gloves
how old is he right now?
This guy should go to the Jags. Even at 49, he's still better than any of the receivers on the team.
Wouldnt you jam your fingers though?
not only is jerry rice the best reciever, he is the greatest player to play football ever out of every position, as ranked by NFL network, followed by jim brown.
This needs an update of wide to the greatest wide reciever
larry fitts been breaking his records :P

jerry rice is one of the greatest football players of all time
and joe benefited from a GREAT D-fence, and the greatest WR of all time, thats how it works man, thats why football is a team game.
Interesting.. salute Jerry Rice
Lets just say, stickums most likely played a role in all his records.
the fact is that he has got a rice field in his hand which attracts balls
I think Moss COULD have been the best ever but he didn't seem to want it bad enough. But on the other hand, Rice had better quarterbacks than Moss.
Tom Brady is better than joe Montana

Jerry Rice should catch babies as they're being born. They would be blessed by the softest hands of a legend. Lol
god dammit he can still catch like a madman

It's just a ball to people like him, not really much to it. Balance and cooperation with the ball.
At work, his dad used to toss bricks down to him while Jerry was a kid.
what about obj
well when u got stickum u can do anything
