  • In this short video recorded in India, Mingyur Rinpoche gives the Tergar community an in-depth look at the first few weeks of his retreat. He talks in inspiring terms about how he worked with the expectations he brought with him on retreat and the near-death experience that transformed his resistance and attachment. You can discuss this teaching in the Monthly Teachings Forum of learning.tergar.org under the topic Expectations and Appreciation.
    Video length: 18 Minutes
    Reflection Questions
Have you practiced letting go of expectations and if you have, did it change your outlook?
Have you found that practicing appreciation has an effect on your daily life?
This video includes subtitles in English, Bulgarian, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.

16:11 literally 4-5 seconds before he said "you have beautiful eyes" I accidentally poked my left eye and I was thinking "hell, what would I do without my eyes?". And then he said "appreciate that you have nice, beautiful eyes", which was a perfectly timed coincidence.

I meditate with Rinpoche every morning, and try to watch at least one of his videos a day. He has changed my life. This week I am blessed to be on vacation at the beach with my daughter and son-in-law and lots of family members. To be able to meditate at the beach is such a wonderful experience that I will treasure forever. Being able to meditate out in nature is incredible! Especially when the Ocean is my Home in my Heart. ❤️ 🌊 🌺

I envision sand in a glass stir it up and you can't see thru the glass but slowly the sand starts to settle and vision becomes much clearer. I have a block and I know what it is but need some advice. It is inconceivably wonderful just to exist as a sentient being. But for some reason we become dependent on seeing ourselves as a certain variety of sentient being. Why does that happen? Is socialization? Is it self-gratification? Is it reaction formation? Probably all of these and more. To perceive these mechanisms at work would be ... to become a wisdom being.

Practicing gratitude in everything good or bad has done this for me a great deal.
Even if I drop a spoon. Said 'so what. Thank you. Some reason I dont know is why I dropped this.' because I was so annoyed.
Got a vision of being sick from eating with that object.
The bible speaks of this. Show gratitude for everything, EVERYTHING - and watch how light you become.
    Thank you Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche.

Another instructive narrative of high quality simplicity about the recognition of the differences between helplessness like a dependent child, and dispassionate adult wisdom necessary to manage the experiences, self-teaching and practiced altogether in this one person. An example anyone can emulate without having to experience the extreme NDE, but it's a matter of applying "free will" to self-deny unnecessary distractions, and relearn what you already know empirically, from the opposite perspective intellectually.
After you do the best you can with what you have, here-now-forever, do nothing and all will be done. (Philosophical appreciation)

I also had another experience where I almost died 3 times in one day. That same day God showed me he is here as I randomly pulled off the road into this area where there was a pond. It had been cloudy all day and just as a pulled in and stopped, the sun started showing through, the clouds where parting, the blue sky was showing, and there were church bells that were playing from the direction of the sun. So many coincidences happened that day. I was appreciative of just living and life for over 2 years. However, this happened 11 years ago, and again, I have reverted back. I am still appreciative of life, but what is the purpose of appreciating only? Even Buddhists have ambitions and motivations, so there is no living with detachment. Maybe through meditation there is detachment, but through thought, word, and deed, there is attachment. So I find myself dealing with the frustrations of trying to make progress in life.

Look I can feel the Dali lama too loud. I used to work with Alzheimer's patients. It is hurting him so loud that I just think he needs to leave. I prayed a lot and he object as if people are objects to treat I'm a way I won't speak to you.
