I meant Robert Penn in 1983 when he and Marv Johnson was producing music for the Motown review, which spotlights David Ruffin and Martha Reeves among others. I was one of the back-up singers managed by Navarro through the Detroit on Parade Showcase of songs tailor made for artist in Detroit... he is a talent greatly respected among his peers.
I first met Robert at Bert's Place on Jefferson Ave. Summer of 1983. The man could sit and stomp! LOL I was painting the historical front. Boy did we have good times, we were part of the "Bert's family". When Bert moved to Eastern Market so did we.
Proud 2 say: my music teacher. Anderson Music, Dearborn, MI. Absolute master musician, teacher, and scholar. Hilarious, too. Introduced me to 1 of the Marvelettes, whose grandson was taking lessons right before me: 'Here's my newest student, Mr. Allen. He thinks he's got a little black in him.' RFGA, Ph.D.
Sir, your solo was beautiful. 0 but the best 4 Mr. Penn. He was my music teacher for a few years at Anderson and set high standards. I never could get Hideaway right.
Love you, Robert Penn

Saw him in Windsor in the 80s and bought a copy of Penn is Mightier than the Sword. Is he still performing?
