that's exactly what I thought. How is that really a good question, girl playing bass, and he says it several times. Young person, playing her songs, with Vinnie on drums and Jason on keys, I mean, THAT is a monster trio right there. Holy moly.
holy shit l that was spot on ... the tricky timing bit was flawless ... and i LOVE the tonal shit you got going on with the right hand power and left hand pressure , just wonderful

I'd LOVE to Tal rip it up on a fretless. This girl has got it going on. Can you even imagine being this passionate and ending up in Jeff Beck's band, at her age???
I saw her with Jeff Beck & I was really impressed. She plays like someone with many years of experience. She really locked up the rhythm section. Very impressive.
Funny he mentions bass as an "unusual" instrument for a young lady--I've been teaching Middle School strings for almost 2 decades, and some of my best bass players have been girls.
stringendo1 I'm an old man now and have been playing bass since 1972. Before that I started playing piano at age 6 and finished when I got to do my A-MUS. I taught myself how to play bass. The point I'm getting to is, that I was surrounded by more talented musicians who were all GIRLS. Wilko is just a presenter and I doubt he's been anything else.
That's the problem; perpetuating stereotypes just because somebody's Neanderthal uncle thinks like that. My experience has been the opposite, so I SURELY don't think that way.
What’s even more depressing is he used to host the Australian version of MTV many moons ago... how do you do that for years and not know shit about music? Having met him I can say he’s an absolute knob, something he displays here by being condescending as f#ck to her... no surprise
yeah man, it was cringeworthy watching him and showed that he knew nothing about music. A very naïve and narrow minded man. He's likely a racist as well.
As much as this album exceeded my every expectation, her second release was a complete disappointment. Tal has so much vision, skill, and passion that I wonder why she felt digressing into folk, pop and vocals was the right shift. I truly hope she finds her way back to jazz.
yeah, I feel you on that. Transformation is great. her new stuff was just a diversion. she made a bid of popularity. but she still does jazz. she toured with Herbie Hancock not long ago. I'd love for her to do another jazz record though.
All I can say is WOW! She has great feel, and I can tell from looking at her face that she feels her music like the rest of us Ol'skool die hards! I'm a fan :-)
well i hate to say it but its true...you don't see many young ladies that play bass at all out there. That's not to say that they are there, and many are extremely talented. Example A in the video above :P
it is unusual. Playing this kind of music so close to the bridge for so long takes a lot of endurance. I'm an in-shape guy who can barely do this stuff. That is why there aren't many attractive female bassists, whereas there are a ton of great looking guitar shredders.
She is about the music and went for the best instrument for her, bridge problem or not, she works it! I also agree with the condescending attitude of the interviewer who has probably never seen a girl play anything apart from the flute or the harp!
she's really good. i think she or some engineer has to take that seemingly muted on her bass. crank it up a little, more treble, slide the equalizer up on every thing. her bass playing should be more foreground. its not just this performance but in most of her performances live its a shame her playing is turned down. yeah yeah i know bass players are supposed to be more background but if it was ok for Jaco to play full blast why not her and others?
She is so cool...I am not a muscian but a fan of music since coming of age in 1969...She keeps my attention like Stanley Clarke, Chris Squire, John Wetton, etc...and others..
"Unusual instrument for a young lady"? I thought bass was what girls played? If there's ONE girl in a band and she's not the singer, she's the bass player. Just look at Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Pixies, APC and Ash. Then there's session players like Debra Killings (Outkast, TLC, Monica and more).
It’s Richard Wilkins lol, who has somehow forged a career of being dumb and boring as fuck ever since the mtv days in the 90s. Must have truckloads of dirt on ch9 hierarchy
This PERSON is an amazing musician. Dudes always seem to need to comment on a woman's looks. Have you noticed how many UGLY dude musicians there are? No one comments on that, talented or not.
her face makes me like her more, she is genuine and passionate and i bet she doesnt give a rats arse how good looking some wannabe critic thinks she is!
Well if you didn't have a clue or believe how sexist and perverse the world and the music industry is by looking at the comment section and listening to the reporter you sure as hell have to.
Admittedly I haven't been through many of the comments here, but I was noticing how there's actually a lot *less* sexist condescension here than I expected. I mean, even in the couple dozen comments I have read there's some--mostly of the clueless rather than vicious variety, IMO--but I was prepared for a LOT more comments about her looks. What I'm saying is, I've seen much worse down in the RUclips comments section. The host of the show is just a dope, & clearly isn't qualified at all to comment on music, but at least he's not a dick.
F^^k is it ever AWESOME! Thx Bro ... I gotta get it ... who is playing the other instruments? And where was it recorded? Was it recorded after Her Tour With Jeff Beck?
lt isn't _that_ unusual for girls to play bass anymore, and well. Hasn't he heard of Esperanza Spalding? Guess not. Wow! Like l said, ''lf Jaco were alive today?!''

The point I'm getting to is, that I was surrounded by more talented musicians who were all GIRLS. Wilko is just a presenter and I doubt he's been anything else.
I don`t think he is sexist, he is just speaking out, what most people think (but would be afraid to ask)...
That's the problem; perpetuating stereotypes just because somebody's Neanderthal uncle thinks like that. My experience has been the opposite, so I SURELY don't think that way.
I love it when white dudes say something isn't sexist. As if they know what it looks like, from experience.
I listen. Over and over and over...amazed...
Interviewer is pretty crap. But this girl can play the crap out of that thing!!!
Just that guy just couldn't get over the fact that a girl played bass! haha dork
He didn't even pointed out that the drummer was Winnie Colaiuta. He deserved to be presented to the public. He's the best living drummer, fuck!!!
Wish he knew how to shut up
What’s even more depressing is he used to host the Australian version of MTV many moons ago... how do you do that for years and not know shit about music? Having met him I can say he’s an absolute knob, something he displays here by being condescending as f#ck to her... no surprise
Been Lovin' Tal since 2009......she can play on anybody's set !!
She loves those octaves. Isnt the interviewer a real dip? So condescending. "Should a little girl like you really be playing a man's instrument?"
yeah man, it was cringeworthy watching him and showed that he knew nothing about music. A very naïve and narrow minded man. He's likely a racist as well.
Music is not only technics, it is feeling too, Tal is an amazing musician, plays with her soul, I don´t understand the reason of these dislikes...
As much as this album exceeded my every expectation, her second release was a complete disappointment. Tal has so much vision, skill, and passion that I wonder why she felt digressing into folk, pop and vocals was the right shift. I truly hope she finds her way back to jazz.
I completely agree. She could be a huge name in the jazz scene right now if she had kept up with this type of stuff.
yeah, I feel you on that.
Seriously... an instrument unusual for a young lady to pick up. Can we get more condescending? Stop it.
Richard Wilkins was always a dickhead.
well i hate to say it but its true...you don't see many young ladies that play bass at all out there.
C'mon... I'm female myself and I love to play the bass. I just don't like to upload stuff. I do it for fun and I'm sure most people do the same.
She is about the music and went for the best instrument for her, bridge problem or not, she works it! I also agree with the condescending attitude of the interviewer who has probably never seen a girl play anything apart from the flute or the harp!
How can any REAL musician NOT like this?
Jaco reincarnated!
I've been playing bass for 50 years. Can't hold a candle next to Tal!
she's really good. i think she or some engineer has to take that seemingly muted on her bass. crank it up a little, more treble, slide the equalizer up on every thing. her bass playing should be more foreground. its not just this performance but in most of her performances live its a shame her playing is turned down. yeah yeah i know bass players are supposed to be more background but if it was ok for Jaco to play full blast why not her and others?
Ymous Anon yeah, she's way too muted..
She is so cool...I am not a muscian but a fan of music since coming of age in 1969...She keeps my attention like Stanley Clarke, Chris Squire, John Wetton, etc...and others..
"In rock bands people will make fun of the bass" ???????????????????????????? Where this guy took that from? Ridiculous.
"a bassist is just a failed guitarist."
--Frank Zappa
ridiculous

funny, I thought drummers had that fame
No shit... how do you get a drummer off your porch? Pay him for the pizza.
Yeeee ... she can play, wow! Great music - love it!

Must have truckloads of dirt on ch9 hierarchy
beautiful amazing phrasing. A new bass hero.
This PERSON is an amazing musician. Dudes always seem to need to comment on a woman's looks. Have you noticed how many UGLY dude musicians there are? No one comments on that, talented or not.
Ikr musicians are just sexy people in general, no need to differentiate based on gender
her face makes me like her more, she is genuine and passionate and i bet she doesnt give a rats arse how good looking some wannabe critic thinks she is!
Sick pocket playing. Everything is just placed perfectly. This is the best kind of bass player to jam with, by far.
Curse you Tal for not making another album JUST LIKE THIS ONE...this was awesome.
I just saw her in Vancouver BC, Canada in 2016 ... what album is this from?
This if from the Transformation album...should be able to listen on Spotify, very nice.
Andrea Menoudakis with her six string bass :)
This girl is totally amazing and totally awesome. I really love the song killing me. YOU ROCK 👍😜
