and 8 years since your comment, she is still going strong, writing albums and performing bass, guitar and vocal parts! Very much an entity of her own and it's great to see
I can hear so much influence in her playing, yet melds it all into something uniquely hers, already at this young age. I hear Jaco, East, Baily, even a bit of Patitucci and Paladino. I'd LOVE to Tal rip it up on a fretless. This girl has got it going on. Can you even imagine being this passionate and ending up in Jeff Beck's band, at her age???
It _IS_ Colaiuta! WOW! This girl is SO well connected. She's played with Dweezil, Herbie Hancock, Prince, and _God knows_ who else! Man! lf Jaco were alive today! XD
Funny he mentions bass as an "unusual" instrument for a young lady--I've been teaching Middle School strings for almost 2 decades, and some of my best bass players have been girls.
stringendo1 I'm an old man now and have been playing bass since 1972. Before that I started playing piano at age 6 and finished when I got to do my A-MUS. I taught myself how to play bass. The point I'm getting to is, that I was surrounded by more talented musicians who were all GIRLS. Wilko is just a presenter and I doubt he's been anything else.
That's the problem; perpetuating stereotypes just because somebody's Neanderthal uncle thinks like that. My experience has been the opposite, so I SURELY don't think that way.
I've been playing guitar mainly for right at 50 years now and have been involved in playing bass for about 46-47 years as well... I have NEVER experienced or heard anybody ever making fun of or belittling the bass guitar.... I have been involved somewhat in the music world for most of those years in Rock, Hard Rock Metal and some Heavy Metal, and one thing is for certain here..... This interviewer has no clue as to what he's talking about..... Her reaction to his claim kind of tells it all... She laugh/chuckled in shock that that came out of his mouth. She IS an absolute Blessed musician.
yeah man, it was cringeworthy watching him and showed that he knew nothing about music. A very naïve and narrow minded man. He's likely a racist as well.
As much as this album exceeded my every expectation, her second release was a complete disappointment. Tal has so much vision, skill, and passion that I wonder why she felt digressing into folk, pop and vocals was the right shift. I truly hope she finds her way back to jazz.
yeah, I feel you on that. Transformation is great. her new stuff was just a diversion. she made a bid of popularity. but she still does jazz. she toured with Herbie Hancock not long ago. I'd love for her to do another jazz record though.
Perhaps those who poked the thumb-down button just don't get it. Truly fine music is often not appreciated by those without the capacity to feel it. To me, this performance was a real treat. It took me back to KRE-FM in Berkeley and RTF. I honestly would have guessed she was Stanley Clarke, had I been blindfolded... She is truly a gift (Thank you, Tal) I look forward to hearing more of what she does in the future. I am always blown away by her performances

This little lady is gifted and extremely talented and will go down as one of the best ever. She'll be right up there with Jaco in a few years. Hopefully she won't get distracted by the rock and roll lifestyle and all the excesses it can offer.
Hats off to Tal, she's got "IT"!!
and 8 years since your comment, she is still going strong, writing albums and performing bass, guitar and vocal parts!
That track sounds so fun to play. Great stuff.
what a terrible host!
Tal is amazing, love this xD
Sick pocket playing. Everything is just placed perfectly. This is the best kind of bass player to jam with, by far.
Vinnie Colaiuta in the drums????????????????? FUCK MY LIFE...
like
+cnarro890 hearing Vinnie play *will* humble a drummer quick.
+cnarro890 they played togheter with Jaff Beck...
It _IS_ Colaiuta! WOW! This girl is SO well connected. She's played with Dweezil, Herbie Hancock, Prince, and _God knows_ who else! Man! lf Jaco were alive today! XD
She did because she's among the best 5 bass players of all times, if not THE best. Herbie Hancock, Jeff Beck Winnie know that.
This made me shed tears. That was amazing
Funny he mentions bass as an "unusual" instrument for a young lady--I've been teaching Middle School strings for almost 2 decades, and some of my best bass players have been girls.
stringendo1 Richard Wilkins is a sexist idiot, without a musical bone in his body..
stringendo1 I'm an old man now and have been playing bass since 1972. Before that I started playing piano at age 6 and finished when I got to do my A-MUS. I taught myself how to play bass. The point I'm getting to is, that I was surrounded by more talented musicians who were all GIRLS. Wilko is just a presenter and I doubt he's been anything else.
I don`t think he is sexist, he is just speaking out, what most people think (but would be afraid to ask)...
That's the problem; perpetuating stereotypes just because somebody's Neanderthal uncle thinks like that. My experience has been the opposite, so I SURELY don't think that way.
I love it when white dudes say something isn't sexist. As if they know what it looks like, from experience.
She loves those octaves. Isnt the interviewer a real dip? So condescending. "Should a little girl like you really be playing a man's instrument?"
yeah man, it was cringeworthy watching him and showed that he knew nothing about music. A very naïve and narrow minded man. He's likely a racist as well.
Superb sound, playing and attitude.
As much as this album exceeded my every expectation, her second release was a complete disappointment. Tal has so much vision, skill, and passion that I wonder why she felt digressing into folk, pop and vocals was the right shift. I truly hope she finds her way back to jazz.
I completely agree. She could be a huge name in the jazz scene right now if she had kept up with this type of stuff.
yeah, I feel you on that. Transformation is great. her new stuff was just a diversion. she made a bid of popularity. but she still does jazz. she toured with Herbie Hancock not long ago. I'd love for her to do another jazz record though.
the best jazz bassist i love her
"In rock bands people will make fun of the bass" ???????????????????????????? Where this guy took that from? Ridiculous.
"a bassist is just a failed guitarist."

funny, I thought drummers had that fame
No shit... how do you get a drummer off your porch? Pay him for the pizza.
Absolutely brilliant !!! How come there are 71 disliked here ? Dont they understand talent ???
Perhaps those who poked the thumb-down button just don't get it. Truly fine music is often not appreciated by those without the capacity to feel it. To me, this performance was a real treat. It took me back to KRE-FM in Berkeley and RTF. I honestly would have guessed she was Stanley Clarke, had I been blindfolded... She is truly a gift (Thank you, Tal) I look forward to hearing more of what she does in the future. I am always blown away by her performances
