Air RB Heavy Fighter Veteran speaking here (2000+ games in heavy fighters) This plane is absolutely fantastic in a heavy fighter role. Dogfighting is to be avoided at all costs. Pulling up in the vertical after BnZ is its strength. The bomber hunting aspect is a given, but I would say there are better planes for that (Do 335 for example). IMO, bomber hunting in this plane is kind of a waste of its potential. Side climb to about 4500m and go in. Mostly P38s and XP50s will be above you. You can easily take anything in a head on, so either spike people or force them into a vertical engagement for the advantage. You need to focus on bleeding single-seat fighters of their energy before attempting to make a pass. It's a great plane for teamwork and squading, because you can stall people out under you quite easily to set up energy traps. You can also drain higher-energy opponents of their energy by extending and going down in a sluggish downward spiral, which is an extremely effective tactic if you have a team mate nearby to assist. Generally speaking, you will be able to hold onto your energy relatively longer than your opponent in this case. Horizontal maneuvers should be avoided at all costs, as it will absolutely tank your energy. If someone is on your six, you're already dead. Don't bother going into a fight unless you have an energy advantage. You will be able to keep that advantage very easily in this plane, and that's what will lead you to success. I see too many people trying to dogfight and do Boom and Run. While a plane like the F82 excels with this playstyle, the BF109Z won't. The guns are the breaking point for most people. They are absolutely abysmal and are why I never go bomber hunting. You have to be right up behind bombers to hit them, which will more often than not lead to your death or critical component damage in the process of downing that flying pinata. In the end, if you like heavy fighters and are used to that play style, this plane is a dream come true. Two BF109s glued together, it's absolutely beautiful just to look at.
@@Freidenker788 You can equalize the energy states between you and your opponent if they are above you by extending away and going in a slow downward spiral. If they follow you, they will burn their potential energy.
Hoenstly. Im just getting it for two reasons. 1. Im a huge collector and have always been drawn to the more wacky and weird vehicles, even if they do have poor performance and 2. The fact that this is also a VERY limited time frame to pick up this rare aircraft draws me to it even more. I remember looking through the WTWiki a few months ago, just looking at all the vehicles that have been removed and viewing them in game, (such as the M10 Ersats) and always hoped that there would be a time in the future that one could earn these interesting vehicles once again.
It seems like the in-game Bf-109Z is based off the rumored G based second prototype. The nose of this Z has the 2 small scoops on either side of the nose that appears only on Bf-109Gs.
Just got this plane. Regardless of the plane performance, the baby nukes, aka the quad 30mm are so good and this plane is surprisingly well at taking big hits and it performs well in headons.
Set convergence to 400 and slap bombers and heavy fighters , definitely boom and zoom. Also anyone following you into a steep climb will stall long before you do. Been having a blast in it.
I really like the 109Z in RB and have a pretty good kill ratio in it. Stay high and fast and you'll slay anything below you. If I could compare it to any other plane in the game I'd pick the later P-38s like the L's and K's. The only big issue for me is that the 30mm ammo is limited and once you run out of ammo you'll have to land and then climb way up to altitude again to be effective.

I actually had this video already produced, I recorded the footage last week. It was intended to go live next week. When I saw the plane was suddenly on-sale, I started the upload and bumped up the release. The timing is actually just a coincidence. I'm in the middle of doing a review series on rare planes.

I play a P-51D, and of the twenty or so I’ve I countered, I’ve shot all but one down. This is coming from someone who has a little over 70k SL, and only plays the American air tree. Buy it if you want, but just saying.
RB is just a team deathmatch, who can turn the fastest. Sim is where the real combat and skill is, you don't have an instructor with you correcting all your mistakes. This is where the 109 Z-1 shines as an interceptor and as a boom n zoomed/support fighter
wait till you hear about the he-111 Z then not only did they stick two he 111-h-6 together, they also added a fifth engine in the middle, because why not?
I'm quitting this game because gaijin refuses to give console players some love and let them have this masterpiece for a plane . this plane is the reason I started playing war thunder and to not have access to it in the Microsoft store on Xbox makes me hate this game development company. they are only focused on making content for pc and everyone forgets about console players. I'm sick of this being the way of pretty much every game. it infuriates me that i cant just have everything else that a pc player has like the market place which i will not lie is a result of sonny and Microsoft not allowing it but its still unfair that we don't get the love and support just like everyone else. this is an issue that needs to be fixed but I know wont be fixed for a long time. its really not that hard to make this a temporary pack in the Xbox or ps4 store.

I hate fighting this plane, 4x Mk-108s HURTS my B-17E, only survived facing one when the pilot didn’t even shoot.
