+Spencer Brus No you have to let Matt have all the recognition or else he'll get pouty about it, whether he deserves it or not is apparently irrelevant.
Daigo's a male nurse and Woolie fattens up on stolen pies and making games like Ride To Hell. This is the perfect battle of good vs evil, and good triumphed.
After so long of watching Woolie play Fighting games, it’s neat to see the change in Daigo’s play here. Woolie usually plays in a very steady, snipe heavy playstyle. He puts up a wall and lets you make mistakes, and after round 1 I think Daigo picked up on that. Woolie’s main weakness from what I’ve seen is when he gets hit by a hyper aggressive rush down and doesn’t get time to re-establish footing, ehich you see a lot when he fights Reggie’s Millia. Daigo went full offense to keep Woolie backing up, and unable to find the weakpoints in his neutral. Good play all around
Woolie didn't do well against the Beast, the Beast went easy on him. I mean doing uppercuts like 8 of them out of nowhere? Looks like Daigo was just playing with his food before he ate it.
He did otay. He might be one of those dude you like but shouldn't praise so much. He did ok, came second match he really didn't have anything else to throw out. Doing well means you win one match.
IslamIstheWayforMe That's not how Street Fighter works. Sometimes playing dumb is the way to throw off your opponent and win, the commentators even say it something like - "Well you wouldn't expect him to DP again after doing it three times in a row right? He couldn't logically do that! But nope, there's the fourth" SF has plenty of skill involved but it's also very focused on trying to get in the head of your opponent. Playing crazy can be beneficial, and Woolie wasn't expecting the crazy.
No worries Woolie. The fact that you managed to beat Daigo in a couple of solid rounds earns you great respect from your fans. You'll get your chance another time, buddy
Should've eaten breakfast. Then he would've won. (Seriously, though, it's actually a really good match, and always fun to come back to and watch every once in a while.)
When I first saw this match, I was terrible at Street Fighter 4, seeing it now, later, after playing all through Arcade Edition and Ultra, you really know how good Woolie is. The fact that he won any rounds at all against someone as aggressive as Daigo is impressive. Not to mention, being able to perform well on stage, live, for all those people. I know I wouldn't even be able to do that at all, let alone against Daigo Umehara.
"He had lost, but in a romantic way, which meant that he had won. 'I think I’ll do a pushup,' he announced to the sea. The sea respected him for it." - Mallory Ortberg
Daigo was literally just kicking back and watching the first round. You can see the absolute change in the subsequent rounds where he starts playing for real. Even in Round 2 there's a huge difference between that and round 3. There's huge disrespect on his part just giving Woolie a round.
When you realize who he's fighting, you begin to notice he's actually pretty darn good. He gave who is essentially the god of Street Fighter a run for his money. Granted, Daigo downloaded Woolie's play style almost instantly since he played a pretty predictable way, but the fact he managed to do better than most people would in such circumstances is enough credit to him. Most people wouldn't beat Daigo in a round.
His name isn't Woolie Blanka, it's just saying that Woolie played as Blanka but they neglected to put any parentheses in there. Just like Daigo's name isn't Daigo Umehara Ryu.
Seriously, there's a reason that Daigo is rated by most people as one of the best sf players and even amongst other pro players he is still rated as one of the best. And it's not because he spams, he zones, he fucks with your mind and gains super sayan powers when at 1hp. Yes he finished in my mouth, may my children be blessed.
Props to Daigo for that first round. He DID know what to do against U2 chip but the sheer number of times you can land that jump to low sweep is very difficult without it being a trade even.
Respect for Woolie, taking on the Beast and showing no fear or intimidation. Not even recklessness either, just sticking to what he knows and giving it his best. Took Daigo to the limit.
It's amazing how Daigo, who doesn't give a fuck having the most technology or money (he still uses an old traditional flip phone no fucking joke) and yet he's probably one of the coolest persons you'll meet in your entire life. daigo is seriously for the people. you know what, Daigo for President 2015
Quentin Holness super popular? trust me, maybe among the masses, but in terms of kids like Daigo most of them have i phones. i have a shitty flip phone, started off by default, and girls really like to poke fun at me for it, like seriously? i didn't know one could be judged on the type of phone they had, im starting to realize that many women are extremely superficial and i don't like it.
Oh man i've been looking for this for a while. Great to finally see the whole of the most hypest match of evo. Gotta loves me my two best friends play!
+lordeliluminado I was referring to Woolie, who is known for being a part of Best Friends Zaibatsu. There is an older joke where Woolie would ask when they would play Marvel by saying "When's mahvel?".
Wow , Daigo just went to work on woolie in the last match , He knew he blew it at the end the previous round by not doing an ex uppercut. Just look at how drastically his gameplay changed , in the initial rounds he was just testing woolie with his uppercuts to see how he reacted , and once woolie upped his game , the beast responded in turn. I love Daigo's mind games
So wild that Daigo won evo in 09, 10 and then made top 8 for 11,12 and 13 and then never again got top 8 but then almost took it all in Capcom Cup 2015.
Felt sooooo bad for Woolie. he's a good player, but he got screwed by the brackets and ended up placed against one of the best Street Fighter players ever.
Well... on the commentary to put it in perspective.. this match is like the first knock out round of Wimbledon being between Roger Federer and a guy playing in his first ever Grand Slam. In that case also the commentators are going to be talking about Federer a lot more than the other guy. I think Woolie fans can be happy with the fact that his showing was so good that they had to give him props for the way he played.
holy fuck, just now I realized this is the same Woolie from two best friends play, I've seen this video so many times but just started watching two best friends play for real recently and mind fucking blown
There's more intimidation factor involved than anything in the situation presented in the video. This is Woolie's hero. The god of 2D fighting games. Most people would choke in this scenario, having their gameplay streamed live to thousands of viewers across the world and many more in the actual room watching over the projector. Most people would choke right then and there before the first round. Woolie did much better than you think.
I like the bit where Woolie establishes he knows how to play,
I like the bit afterwards where he had a life lead and proceeded to get too reckless
Behind the sunglasses no one can see his salty tears.
Daigo may be one of the best player of SF in the world, but in the Woolie Hole, he has no chance.
He's like a fucking Daedric Prince, the Daedric Prince of Pie related thievery.

Woolie The Pie Stealing Liar may have lost tha match but he won the hearts of the people.
He also steals chili.
Khairi Hamed That's the new lore. But the chili wasn't really stolen though.

Vision821 LOL, WTF that's just racist

I love Woolie's face near the end. He knows he's doomed, but he's still admiring the crazy skills about to put him down, ha.
Woolie and his goofy RUclips videos.
How can Woolie be playing AND commentating at the same time!?
Must be some secret in the woolie hole
I'm impressed; Woolie did well against the Beast.
Woolie didn't do well against the Beast, the Beast went easy on him. I mean doing uppercuts like 8 of them out of nowhere? Looks like Daigo was just playing with his food before he ate it.
IslamIstheWayforMe Daigo still does that in high-level play; it's called the "UmeShoryu".
He did otay. He might be one of those dude you like but shouldn't praise so much. He did ok, came second match he really didn't have anything else to throw out. Doing well means you win one match.

God, that costume makes Blanka's roll attackbox look so confusing. I can see why Woolie picked it
in woolies own words "the most loud and obnoxious outfit in my fight against Daigo"
If only someone had a Hulk doll.
Woolie would've won if somebody had his hulk hostage, it would be like The Fan except better.
fun fact: daigo has woolie's purple game boy color and was going to give it back if he won
No worries Woolie. The fact that you managed to beat Daigo in a couple of solid rounds earns you great respect from your fans. You'll get your chance another time, buddy

Yeah very good performance after all, never expected a close match with Blanka. Well done Woolie ^o^
Daigo is incredible, is like an antique sensei in fighting video games, the most calm down player I've ever seen.
I love that a goofy video, which I can only assume is the "Woolie turns down a threesome" video, is immediately referenced after reading his name.
Woolie is a part of Two best friends play, he helps write it, and hes also one of the commentators of the fighterpedia series. He's a legendary guy!
