I have a theory as to why Toby dog only shares his food with Pablo barn cat. Both of them are working animals on the farm, Toby protects the livestock from predators and Pablo keeps away the rodents. Toby recognizes this and respects Pablo like a colleague - almost like a pecking order between them and other farm animals
and they are best buds

I put rocks in my backyard water bowl for the wildlife, so bees do not get stuck if they are thirsty. 💞

Re the Parks & Recreation Gang: "Bros before Hos, Baby!" I don't know much (anything) about how birds decide their social priorities, but my bet is that breeding overrules everything *during the breeding season* only. After the hormonal storm dissipates, they're free to resume previously established social groupings. Now, if any of them were brooding, that might turn out differently - if they actually raised any babies. Not sure, though, and it would be interesting to see what happens if that ever happens.
Morgan your channel has been HUGE for us. We have learned so much from watching your videos. From incubating, hatching, brooding, and everyday care, to how to build a coop and everything in between. Thank you so much for all your hard work, not only on the farm but in the way you edit your videos. You are very knowledgeable, honest, and genuine. Regarding the comment you hearted; cats do NOT have weak necks. Unlike dogs, cat routinely go thru areas that are the just the width of their whiskers, which increase the potential they can get a collar stuck on something and end up strangling themselves as they struggle to free themselves. That’s why cat collars have a break-away option. Leaving a cat to run loose with a halter can get them hung up on something with disastrous results. Always monitor cats wearing halters.

No joke that actually happened to a farm in my area where 3 ducklings hatched out and roamed around the barn and the farmers couldn't find them and feared the barn cat ate them but the found their barn cat with 3 newbie kittens and the 3 ducklings it was the cats maternal instinct that made her adopt them the ducklings even drank her milk

You could get one of those storage containers that cost like 4$ at Home Depot and create and entrance hole and put it over her nest. That should offer her some protection from aerial attacks and let her be less stressed about being exposed.

Maybe give your remote duck food nearby so she doesn't have to be away from her clutch so long. Aeral predators could make quick work of exposed eggs.
The goslings really go after the dandelion leaves! Love their safe kiddie pool too. These guys have it good.

As soon as I saw the Untitled Goose Game Goose tag pop up I was immediately in love that is hilarious
I just love how good you are to your animals! You don't scrimp on the grains or feed. I find that a few homesteaders are very frugal with the feed. Even though they "free range" they still need nutrients from the feed.
Also....you don't rush putting them out to pasture. A few also put them out after only two weeks when temps are way too cold.
Toby is a true guardian... He guards the farm while also making sure the videos don't get too sappy.😆

The three little Chica you have is 2 roosters and a hwn, hens feathers grows quicker than a rooster, within a day of hatching the hens feathers starts to grow, love watching

I really enjoyed watching this video of Ron Swanson and the ducks and geese in their youth and everything you’re doing or I should say did on your developing farm. I LOVE life on the farm with Gold Shaw and as I have been fighting residual issues from cancer and doing potassium infusions for 10 and 12 hours a day multiple times a week, this has really helped me to I have something else to think about❣️❣️ thank you for all these videos and I love all your animals to. Toby dog is such a good dog♥️🌈

What a brave Mamma Duck! She was defending her eggs from that Big Scary Tractor Lawnmower Monster!!! She stood there, shaking, quacking furiously, trying to prevent the Monster from eating her eggs!
I'm a complete noob and know nothing about farming, so genuine question. When the weather is nice, can most of the animals on this farm not survive off the grass and bugs they find, enough not to need to spend money on the 'feed' they are getting?
If that is the case, does the cost of providing that continual 'feed' decrease in the summer months?
I'm just wondering, when you buy products listed as 'grass fed,' are they still supplemnenting those animals with various grain products?
I believe he saves money by letting the animals eat the grass, though they still feed them with other stuff to keep them healthy with all the nutrients and stuff.
The geese can live off grass alone. The other animals need food.
Remember that there's a large concentration of animals in a somewhat small space. Yes, the total fenced in area is pretty damn big, but if you compare the size of flocks and how they will move around looking for food in the wild to a poultry farm, you'll see that the land area to flock size is on the small side. Plus, birds like to get their food from multiple different places to make sure that if one area becomes depleted, they can still get food elsewhere. That's not all that much of an option when they're fenced into an area like that.
Grass Fed is one of those terms that is only partially regulated. Technically, 100% of their food is supposed to be foraged from a pasture, but it's very rarely enforced or even inspected. And as someone who lived just down the road from a farmer that "grass fed" his cattle, their food was definitely supplemented in the winter - especially when there's a ton of snow and ice covering the ground. Unlike bison, cattle isn't all that good at clearing the snow and ice to get to the grass underneath. But it was certainly fair to say that the vast majority of their diet was grass they foraged from pastures.
There is "certified grass fed" by various companies, but I've no idea how thorough or honest they are in their "certification" - the certification isn't an FDA thing, that's for sure.

Good update. Been through the same type of close friends and moving to different life decisions. Sometimes though, it is like your later piece of “Ron” and friends hanging out. Rarely though!
I noticed that the lighter of the big two goslings (the one that the momma goose whacked) took to dandelion greens quite well. Might be worth checking out.
Dandelion greens are a gosling’s favorite food.

Goldshaw has said in previous videos that the silkies are so small he worries that they would be prey for more aerial predators that might avoid taking the larger standard chickens. The silkies do look huge in the video but they are quite a bit smaller than standard chickens and much floofier it seems
Also silkies have poor eye sight and they’re smaller so if some fight happens between the weird chickens and normal chickens the silkies would be in big trouble

just one of the things you end up doing with such animals where you want them to know what they're allies look like is a long process of every day extending the exposure by like two seconds. So yes you first introduce cat to good dog, cat hisses, you just have to let the cat hiss at the dog for a bit and then bring cat back inside. Then the next day you kinda just do it again but for that little bit longer. Eventually the cat will stop hissing at the dog but you have to do it like everyday otherwise the cat will think dog is evil and should be hissed at.
This is of my personal experience, it maybe hit or miss, or maybe i really don't know what i'm talking about because this was the only method i found and it was exhausting.
My other ducks hate it when I put ice cubes in their waterbowl, which makes me laugh 😂😂😭
