"I like to read it after I screw things up." Classic line! :). I tell my wife, it is called a "Manswer". Thanks for taking the time to show us how this stuff goes together.
Sandy, good luck with the winch and new saw. I have a Kioti dk 40 , same as yours. The best implement I ever bought was a Igland (Norse) logging winch. I wish I bought it 30 years ago. You'll get around to it too!
Thanks for the well wishes Chuck. I think this winch will do some good work around her especially when I’m well off the beaten path. I have looked at those logging winches and they sure do look handy. Price is holding me back a bit right now as they are around 4-5k where I’m located. Probably worth it in the long run
Super cool! I’m just a whacky guy living in a tent in the woods, building random stuff with chainsaws and chainsaw mills. I do my best not to look at tools catalogs or ever touch expensive equipment because it gives me the shakes and that instant feeling of NEED. Thanks to you, I now NEED a chainsaw winch! 10 minutes ago I didn’t even know they existed. I do have a in-op old small saw that runs but has no bar. Its just gathering leaves and mouse turds and I wonder, is that something that could be turned into a small winch with a pulley system to double the oomph? Guess I’ll have to find out. Thanks for the video!
For the G660. I have had mine for a bit now this winter. I use it solely for chainsaw milling. So far, so good. Only real issue was the decompression valve failed after a couple gallons of gas. Replaced it with an oem part and has been good since. Would of preferred a 395, but at a quarter of the cost, this will do just fine. It has already paid for itself many times over in the lumber produced with it. Only suggestion would be to run a rich oil/gas mix. I run 25:1 in this saw, where everything else has 40:1
On the saw where that clip u put back that washer holds the bearing in if you grind that washer down to the right size you can still hold the bearing in and slip the sprocket that joins the saw to the winch
I have never seen that color in a saw.never read instructions first.only after ya can't get it.that's me but most of the time I don't need em.good stuff buddy.looks like that bad boy will do some pulling.good luck.
Love to see how that Farmtec does for you. Personally I am a Stihl guy all the way. Will look forward to the response once you put it through it's paces.
Nice power head upgrade for the chainsaw winch. Now you'll have little excuse for leaving downed trees on your property. You'll be able to winch them out from anywhere.
If u remove the bolt on the winch break and take the bolt out of the break and add a lock washer then put the break back together and tighten it back down till you get the right amount of tension on the handle it will stop the handle from flinging open and then your spool will unspool and make a mess you won't need a strap to hold the tension on the break handle when your unspooling the cable if that makes sense
@@sawingwithsandy they are listed at 372XP saws. They are 70cc class and are great. A little heavier than your Husqvarna but truly comes in handy when processing my pine and oak.
Hey there buddy how are ya? Hehehe addictions ya I have mine to. Mine has been main battle rifles. But now that I have sold off many I’m turning to the sawmill and chains saw as well. I love being out in the bush harvesting and building stuff. I wish I didn’t wait to retire to have this much fun. I was thinking a g660 clone would be perfect for the winch. I can’t wait to see how it does! Thanks as always for sharing your adventures with us . God bless you and yours
Glad you tune each week. It sure does seem like a good saw that is relatively cheap and can be dedicated to the winch. Will be a learning curve for me that’s for sure
I was just answering someone else who asked about it so I'm just going to copy and paste. I bought my saw back in 2018 some of these issues I've heard have been fixed. Decomp - they said it was fixed but I would do a husky/stihl oem they interchange Piston circlips - Just do it with oem Wrist pin bearing. Same deal if you are already in there just do it. Oiler - heard this was fixed Starter rope - I went with some unbreakable stuff. Bar studs - Probably my fault cause I ugga dugga stuff. Fuel lines - pretty much all the rubber with OEM. Exhaust gasket. - I don't think others have problems I switched to metal oem. Shimmed the tensioner. - I heard this was fixed. Clutch drum bearing. - seen a few people but not everyone. I massaged my control group to work. But it's easier to do oem if you have too some people don't have issues. I know that seems like a lot but it's honestly not, neither in doing it or the monetary cost. I only paid 263.20 back in 2018 and besides the oiler it's probably under or around $100 in parts. This was during a time where gutted (for parts) oem 660s on eBay were selling for around $800-$1k. If you don't like the clones be glad they are probably the main reason scalpers stopped selling gutted used 660s for so much. EDIT: IDK if they've changed but the half wraps used to be weak. The full wraps were not. There's also a video out there of me standing and bouncing on a full wrap somewhere.... I would also go though and make sure all the screws are tight. exp the cylinder.
I have one of these 92cc clone saws and use it with a 42" bar for slabbing hardwood. It's a beast. Been considering a Lewis winch, but have read a lot of posts saying they damaged their winch with these sawheads, and suggesting that a 60-70cc saw seems more appropriate for the winch, regardless of what Lewis says.
I used the 92cc saw on the Lewis Winch for a number of years and worked pretty well. I'd imagine you could put a slightly smaller saw as well and would work just as well
I’m thinking you missed the big washer to keep the first adapter in place, then the “snap ring” and then the outer adapter, I might be wrong but, if the bar nuts were to come off what holds the unit together if the first adapter isn’t held in place.
I do believe we have no power tools that don’t have China parts of some sort in them. Made in Canada simply means assembled here. Wish you success with your unit. All the best Sandy!
break it in properly and it'll run great for you. 32:1 during break-in then up to 40:1. Tune at each mix level as well so you don't get too lean. Good luck on your new saw.
First thought ... what a waste of a 660 ... I've had mine since spring of 2020, and honestly, I haven't used my Husky much since. Its big, its heavy, but man the raw power is addictive. Break it in with the 25:1 ratio for at least 3 fills before you start hauling logs. How long did it take to get here [Ontario]? My 660 order took the full 59 days, and I swear there were days while I waited I was convinced it was swimming across the ocean. So glad I ordered though [especially since I caught it before the shipping costs doubled during covid]. Why didn't you ordered some bars & chains though. They are actually pretty good, and at $30 for a bar + chain combo, how can you go wrong. Anyways, I know you logically thought it through before purchasing, and I know your sole intention was for it to be the beast engine for your mechanical pulley, but man ... throw a bar on ... you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Yeah that 660 sure does have some torque. I decided to buy just the powerhead and leave it permanetly attached to my winch since I've got two other chainsaws that I use for my wood cutting. My 60cc saw is all the power I need for cutting wood so figured this Holz would be a good choice for the winch.
Hey I wondered if you ever looked into the other portable winch on the market with the the little Honda motor built into it? Just wonder what your thoughts are, the pros and cons are of one or the other.
I did look into the capstan winches and although they look like they have some advantages I felt that I wanted a bit more pulling force for the cost. I was also not able to try one out in person and so a question I was left with was how they would handle the snow getting on the rope and whether that would cause slipping on the drum as much of my work involves working in snow and I wouldn’t be able to dry out the rope in a heated space so the rope would stay snow covered quite often. Ideally I’d like to try one to know for certain
@@sawingwithsandy Good point on the wet rope, I had looked into them to also a bit more expensive than the Lewis especially if you already had a dedicated saw for the Lewis. Thanks for the reply!
Yeah shipping was a bit expensive. I’ve decided this year that after the loss of many of my good maples in last years tornado that I’m going to focus on cleaning up the bush and forgo sap season. Sad thing to do but the bush is still in pretty bad shape
I've got ag660 i use with a 36” Alaskan Mill, love it. The only problem I've had so far in about 12 months of using it pretty often is that the muffler came off. The bolts holding the muffler to the manifold don't seem to have been tapped correctly so i can't find a replacement.. seems like they're 5.5mm or something.. but otherwise it's been a fantastic purchase, allowing me to set aside $1000 towards a woodland Mills sawmill instead of spending that on the ms660...
Yeah I pretty much just wanted a cheap saw to keep my favourite husky 555 in good shape. This one is a first for me so see how it goes. Hard to get any used chainsaws around here where I live
