He looks pretty healthy to me. I see no signs of starvation. He can walk around on his own, has a full set of teeth, and has plenty of energy to harass mom...nope, pretty sure this kid is not starving lmao The mom is literally trying to get away from him and tell him in the nicest way possible NOT NOW! These kids bring so much of the beatings on themselves. They simply will not take no for an answer giving mom no choice but to get physical. I would feel sorry for them if the mom was being neglectful and mean for no reason at all. But in most of the videos, that is not the case. The kids are just as abusive if not MORE abusive when they throw fits leaving me feeling anything but sorry for them. The mom deserves compassion too.

I remember when he was born, what a hard time she had with him wanting to stay on the teat 24/7!! He just about drove her crazy. I felt sorry for her, she couldn't even eat. It doesn't look like he got much better. He's still driving her crazy. She really needs to bite him really hard a few times and he'd get the picture.
Dance people get mad but she needs to draw blood on him one good bite he'll leave her alone but until she does that she's going to have this mess that he's sending her through told you these male monkeys are very aggressive they get on that titty and they act like that state pacifier they livelihood which is probably when they were babies but they have to have a 24/7 like an addict that's crazy

How big they are is insignificant. They would be nursed from 12 to 15 months if humans weren't feeding their mom. That's where you folks need to comprehend its so important for them to get moms milk as long as they can. And if they need a pacifier and a nap, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THAT? When he turns 15 mos old then you all can say he's too old.

Well, how old is he here? He’s got to be pretty close to the 15 month mark.
At this age he is most likely to be wanting a pacifier. When they are younger, the do need the warmth and protection from mom. But after 4 to six months 6 months they are almost always used to mom at least starting the process. A big part of the weaning process is to get the offspring to stop clinging, back riding and encourage them to play with others. We have all seen the mothers trying to get those "Velcro" babies to start walking on thier own. Following, not always being carried. Or start to.
That's exactly what is going on
He definitely forages. He is a yearling. Not yet a juvenile but definitely past the age where weaning begins. The mother is only doing what she needs to be doing at this age. People saying "so what if he wants a pacifier" are a bit off the mark. She is still grooming him right after pushing him away and nips at him but not to the degree that some moms do. When Moms is expecting, her instinct kick's in and starts to push baby away in preparation for the new baby. She does this for his own good. When they give in to a lot of "pacifier" time, he will try this as a juvenile. So he may not be 15 months old but he is for sure at an age where weaning is in full force and often is close to coming to point where that behavior is not tolerated. Also these stats about the 12 to 15 months are mostly taken from studies on monkeys in captivity. These mother's start young. For good reason. He must learn to self soothe and sustain himself on food on his own. Another thing is these monkeys are fed by tourists and pretty tame towards humans, some of them anyway . So I agree with you. Weaning is a process and these yearlings must learn to stop depending on mom. She may comfort him from time to time and let him even get some time to be close and suckle..
These monkeys are in a situation with a different dynamic altogether. But for his own good and safety, he is definitely at an age where the clinging needs to be discouraged. Mom is right on target. This is a natural instinct for both baby and mom that has been going on for ages.

His little buddy,still in his baby fur, is behaving better and less afraid than milto who is a juvenile already it's sad that a legitimate baby is trying to comfort him and ease his fear when it should be the other way around! I used to feel sorry for him but now I would like to see him get disciplined with some beat down action for this display

You gotta love this whole methodology of weaning. He expends so much energy just trying to get in front of his mom only for Milta to just turn away or walk somewhere else. Eventually, he's going to realize it's easier to just pick fruit off a tree (if Sweet Pea can find food...). And for the record, before anyone tries to say that all he wants his warmth and affection, Milta tried that several times in this video. That isn't what he wanted.

She turned him away once, then again, pour thing begging with all he has. Barely hanging off the edge of whatever mama and the other mama is on, staring up at mama wanting her to pull him on in. He is so close to actually getting the prize at one point he gets his hand on it but mom turns away and goes on the other side of the other mother to which Milto starts crying and moves down again and starts Moving over to mama when she suddenly grabs him bringing him up to her close then scooting in up close with the other Mama till you cannot see Milto at at. He finally gets his milk because when mama grabs him you see her bring him up to her breast. But bless his heart. His feeding doesn’t last long till mama and the other mother come apart and mama pushes him away sending him off the edge again with him grabbing hold of the edge again. Mama did good to give him a mouthful before. So that just set him back into his normal
@Mimi B. Good mama teaching with kindness and comfort. She is a winner. She saved her babies leg and knew breast milk would help him heal and survive instincts very good in this mom. He lived because of her grooming that huge wound and knowing that something in that milk would keep him from dying and he obviously did not. Now for the hard part reintroducing weaning I have faith she will succeed in that also without hurting him

Starving? I've never seen a child that was starving to be able to throw tantrums, run, scream, and play with mom's breast. Just another example of a child wanting what it wants when they want it and if they don't get it they throw tantrums. When weaning begins, it's not to stop breast feeding altogether, it's to teach the young ones that mom tells them when they can or not.
This is why the mom gives in at the end.
So the next time she pushes baby away, he'll understand and go look for something else.

Theresa Marie on the web it says that a macaque mother will introduce other foods into her babies diet after a couple of weeks. But this youngster is very active and could forage a little for himself. However, when they eat grasses and other foliage do they instinctively know what they can eat and which stuff could be potentially harmful?
I completely disagree. They NEVER take "no" for an answer AND mom ALWAYS gives in so they don't ever have to. I believe it's the juvenile that weans itself from either losing the taste for it or realizing it's no longer getting full from it. I've yet to see a monkey mom stand her ground to the bitter end and actually win..
@@ponddweller525 That doesn't sound correct; macaque babies go after anything and everything in it's mothers hands almost immediately, in fact, I've seen a baby come out of its mom and DEVOUR a mango! Macaque moms don't introduce baby to foods- it's all they can do to eat it before baby steals it! As for knowing what's safe to eat vs what's not, no, NONE of us are born "knowing", but that's what senses are for; we decide what to eat by looking at it, then smelling it, and when it passes those tests we taste it BEFORE we decide to start shoveling! I can't think of anything that would pass ALL our tests and kill us instantly upon tasting it! And remember, monkeys have much sharper senses than we do AND a much stronger digestive system specifically "designed" for plant and insect toxins as well as wood, super tough roots, leaves and grass- all of which would be considered unsafe and/or inedible for humans. The term "garbage disposal system" comes from animals such as this.

Looks like his leg has healed completely. Never thought that would happen. But these little ones that get hurt are more needy it seems.
I wouldn't say it's healed completely. He does have more range of motion with it than I'd have figured, but it's also always tucked up under him in awkward ways, a lot like Daniel's arm was after that whole rubber band thing last year.
