What really made the Cyberdemon terrifying on the ps1 was that you couldn't save. You had a level password and that was it. One unlucky rocket near a lost soul or pillar and you were doing the whole thing again.
Ah, the Cyberdemon battle I remember from my childhood. Lost Souls and Mancubi everywhere, the clomp clomp clomp of the coming monster as you try to clear the map.
I actually love this version of The Tower of Babel. I have got to get this PSX version and figure out how to play it on the computer! My stepfather taught me to play Doom 20 years ago.
+Treeca Gunn There is a Total Conversion for it for PC that plays through ZDoom/GZDoom (not sure if it is specific to one or plays on both), but I don't know if I'm legally allowed to link to it so I'll simply say Google is your friend :D
I was slightly surprised to learn the other day that the UV Tyson record on this map on the PC version is 24 minutes or something. It made me wonder why your 7:20 run isn't the record anymore, or why nobody else has seen fit to beat it
Because mine was Tyson Grandmaster, not UV Tyson. UV Tyson is the actual category, Tyson Grandmaster is UV Tyson and UV -fast combined. It's a misc category. Plus, my 7:20 has been since beaten.
I believe the order they put the levels in the psx makes more sense to me. Just feels better having the mastermind at the end of doom 2 then at doom 1.
Don't get me wrong, while Dis was the perfect ending map to Episode 3 in the original, I think having the Tower of Babel in Hell with the Cyberdemon as the Episode 3 boss is pretty cool, and more fitting in some ways. Any newcomer to Doom who plays this version first would actually be surprised from seeing the Spider Mastermind for the first time in Episode 4.
The Spider Mastermind isn't at the end of Episode 4 either, though. The Ultimate DOOM doesn't have a final boss in the PSX version. It just ends. The Spider Mastermind is saved for the end of DOOM II, because they couldn't get the Icon of Sin to work in PSX DOOM.
Thanks haha. Yeah, Pain Elementals are, no pun intended, a pain. Letting them live is as bad as killing them and no matter what weapon you use it's going to leave you with Lost Souls to fight. At least a Cyberdemon attacks in a straight line and doesn't kamikaze!
Gotta love the fact they got Mancubi in this Map. I don't think there are any secrets in the Map, I think we would've seen the secret message if you had tagged one. Rocket Launcher fight is always nice, but Lost Souls that don't give a fuck and increased splash damage from the Cyberdemon's Rocket Launcher is never a good thing. Good job AltimaMantoid.
I never understood why the Spider Mastermind is the final boss, and not the cyberdemon. I mean: The spider is so much weaker than cyber.. Not to mention for pc version you have for the cyber no bfg, and for the spider you actually have, which makes the spider even more weaker, especially if you point blank it. Also: Why the bosses have always so little to no support? They basically NEED support to be efficient. This is a plus on this psx tower of babel version. Here at least the cyber has some support - though the infighting system destroys it again. Maybe some other enemies would have been more sense. In general is the infighting too easy to reach imo. For "Blood" most better enemies need to take lots of shots until they retaliate. Thats imo better this way. Also: If you play with fast monsters: Sometimes fast monsters may some situations a lot easier, because you can so much easier initiate an infighting. I need to try fast monsters without infighting enabled. Sure interesting then :)
Because when Doom came out, people weren't proficient with FPS games and so the Cyberdemon and Mastermind were way harder than they are now. Plus, bullets are instant and so I guess they figured having her around would be more dangerous. Still, the only thing I question is why she has less HP than the Cyberdemon.
"Hell Gate" is the Jaguar version's "Tower of Babel" as the original never existed in that version. This version of Tower of Babel is exclusive to the PSX version (although it's based on the original E2M8 lol)
yeah it was weird playing doom on the PC after beating it on jag originally, i think the Jaguar version of the game is a lot harder due to the save system and the fact that the chain gun is far less useful, cyber demon would have been nearly impossible.
So, before you go record the next three maps (unless you already did that), I just wanna say that I noticed one change between the actual PSX version and the TC version. In Perfect Hatred and Sever the Wicked in the TC version they replaced couple Spectres with Nightmare Spectres. Maybe you could mention that in the video :-)
Well, what I meant is a difference between the actual PSX version and the TC, not between PSX and PC. If you play the game on the actual PS1, there are regular Spectres in the place where Nightmare Spectres are in the TC version.
Way to make the cyberdemon fight epic an intense! You didn't go cheap by using the BFG. But in all honesty i really dont think the cyberdemon is really any different from the original version.

Great LP dude....you explained all the changes in the PSX version very well so far. Let's see what's next for you. Good Night.
it's not over by a long shot. PSX Doom includes episode 4 and Doom 2 as well.
Still like thirty maps to go. XD
I hate when the Cyber goes inside the room and doesn't want to come out.
Me too lol
In the final map, in Ultra-Violence, there are two spider masterminds if I recall correctly.

Loved the sounds in this version

lol "they have no fucks to give"
Nice aiming with that rocket. :D
Thanks!
That's why I don't ever use the Rocket Launcher on the skulls. They fly at you so fast, you risk killing yourself.
^Lost Souls.
I know that. I just say skulls because it's quicker.
Prince Noah :3 Okay. Those Souls Don't Give Two Shits About What's Gonna Happen. :'3
So Thy Flesh Consumed is in this game, cool.

I really need to play this version. Enemies hit and sound exactly like Doom 64...
Dude, you totally rock.
Lost souls are the worst >.
So true! I always dread seeing Pain Elemental s..especially if there's like 6 of them. Like why me? XD
I’m stuck on this! Aaaaack!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why doesn’t anybody use the BFG?

Also, is that a new wall texture in the exit room?
Nope, that texture does exist in the original I believe, it's just not common

Actually, if you summon the cyberdemon and spider mastermind in doom and they can walk freely, the spider almost always beats the cyberdemon
+Supcharged Yep, due to a lack of "positioning AI" so to speak
+AltimaMantoid because the spider is immune to blast damage and the cyber will just stupidly walk up to her lol
The Spider Mastermind should have had more HP
This version is weird , actual enemies at the tower of babel ? I recall the jag version didn't have cyber demon so that would explain the map change.
"Hell Gate" is the Jaguar version's "Tower of Babel" as the original never existed in that version. This version of Tower of Babel is exclusive to the PSX version (although it's based on the original E2M8 lol)

I have 2 of the 3 done, I can't remember if I mention it or not but it's pretty obvious lol
Well, what I meant is a difference between the actual PSX version and the TC, not between PSX and PC. If you play the game on the actual PS1, there are regular Spectres in the place where Nightmare Spectres are in the TC version.
***** Ah, I don't remember that honestly. I'll try to make mention of it but we'll see
You can make an annotation if you don't say it in the video :-)
Map looks more interesting this way.
+spd7693 Agreed
Also there was no demons in the tower for my

He's not, the difference is that I think he's a little slower and the rockets are more lethal, or they feel like it anyway
Your awesome ; ) ~ you little cousin. You know who
i dont think there a any secret in this level
I think I kill the cyber demon with the plasma gun
AltimaMantoid had 2,201 subs earlier, now he has 2,200. Who's the numbskull that unsubbed? Lolz.
