Protip: when cutting a bolt put a nut on it below where you intend to cut. Then, when you thread the nut off it will fix any threads you may have damaged during the cut.
Well the standard machine shop method is to always chamfer the cut off thread, that way you get rid of any burrs and have an easier time engaging threads. But if you very specifically need flat ends that is a good way to go.
Yep, so true... the first time you try to screw a nut on 'after' the cut to fix it will cure you of forgetting. ;-) Chamfer has not always worked well for me... I will sand the ends a bit, just to clean the burrs though. Then, off comes the nut.
I made your table, Steve, with a couple of small mods, and it's great! Thank you, sir! I had to cut a chunk out of the back right of the table because the table height crank hit it. Instead of the way you made a track for the stop block on the fence I bought t-track and routed out a dado for it. Works great! The toilet bolt (excellent idea!) was just a little too wide to fit the t-track, but a few seconds with the bench grinder fixed that. I figured I'd make a thin, removable sacrificial panel for the top so that I can replace it once damaged, and that made the stop block not fit (too tall) if the panel was in place. Fixed that by routing a slot in the stop block which allows me to change its height easily. All good!
I've watched several different variations of how to build a drill press table. Yours so far is the most simple, yet fully functional I've seen. Sometimes, less is more.
It's because of your videos I have decided to get back into woodworking! My grandfather taught me a ton, but I've got away from it for a very long time. A few shop upgrades and the jigs to go with them! Thank you for what you bring!
Steve, my sons and i built this ! it's a Very good design ! We notched the back of the table to facilitate the handle on the drill press, (Maximized the table size & does not interfere with the fence..) Thank you, we enjoy your videos ! Microjig
I got a drill press at the start of this year for my birthday. I've been searching around for drill press table plans but haven't found any I liked. So glad you uploaded this video and plans!!! Will be getting started right away!!!
I've got this old craftsman table saw with no fence I was gonna sell on craigs list. I saw this design for a fence and ramped it up to fit my old table saw and it works great. I'll set this old saw up with a dado blade but mostly use it as an outfeed table from my new saw. When I need to dado, I'll just adjust it up and knock them out. Steve comes through again!
I want to personally thank you for making these videos. I've always been really interested in wood working but had no idea how to go about it, or what each tool was used for. I have basic knowledge of table saws and a very little circular saw experience. I've been watching your videos for the past few days and you have a way about explaining each step and tool clear and easy to understand. Just by watching your basic videos. I feel pretty confident to at least have a starting point and basic understanding of what each tool is used for. I've made a list of all the essential items you mention throughout your videos and ill start Acquiring them here and there and my long thought about dream is soon to become a reality. Thank you so much! You saved me years of trial and error. You are awesome!!
Hello, my friend, all right, I'm Brazilian and I really like your mistakes. I've been following you for a long time. And every project you do, I try to do. I hope that you're the one who always shows your project
I am one of your Patreon’s. Very proud to support all you do for us Steve. I just finished making this tonight. I wish I could add photos. I think mine is amazing!!
Ok, Steve, watched your video and decided to make one for my drill press. Simple job turned into a two day project! Kept adding this and that and changing things that made it work better! One thing I did notice is that with fence in place, it keeps the wood chips together and easier to clean up. Also works better for my vac system which I incorporated into the table.
Perfect timing...I've got several spring projects lined up so that I can get going in my garage workshop as soon as the weather is just a bit more consistent. I'll add this to a few more of your folding sawhorses. Thanks for great content as usual, Steve!
Steve, thank you so much for this video. I don't have a drill press...yet! However what I was able to take away from this is your simple fence. I have a used "antique" table saw that didn't come with a fence and other fence videos look like way too much! This is exactly what I was looking for!
Brilliant idea. I see that table helpful for light metal work where I need a stable surface for drilling holes in tubing. I could put a scrap piece under the metal as a sacrifice surface. MANY THANKS !!! I also like the way you use your saw blade instead of a dado for wider cuts..
Apparently my wife loves your "micro Jig" commercials, she made some cookies and I snuck in to grab one while they were cooling, she jumped out and said "micro Jig" I laughed so hard. Thought you might get a kick out of that.
I just made myself a drill press table from some offcut 19mm ply, and made a simple clamp-on fence with more offcuts. But after seeing Steve's video, i think I'll be modifying my table so that I can add a fence like his. Just have to align my table saw first.
Nice table, I like the stop/gauge design. I did sheet metal fab for eight years, so unfortunately, I spent a TON of time on the drill press. Like you said drilling holes is boring. The drill press I used had a good sized table to begin with but I often had to support longer material with T Stands. I usually clamped a scrap piece of aluminum angle to the table as a fence and then clamped another piece of angle or bar to that angle if I wanted a stop. We also had a scrap piece of tread plate with a perfect square notch out of one corner. Lay out and drill a hole, with the bit still in the hole, slide the notched scrap piece up against your work piece and clamp it onto the table, works really well for a lot of repetitious pieces.
Very handy project. I would like to see your version of a wooden tool box or a tool chest. Thank you for sharing. Thanks to MicroJig and Graphic Stock for sponsoring the show.
once again Steve you gave us another wonderful video!! I need a table on my drill press.i remember one you done several years ago and I didn't make it. Thanks again for this one!! God Bless
Thanks Steve for making all the parts of this possible for viewers like myself who live in far-flung countries where stores don't carry fancy mitre-slot tracks and bolts. We all have 😨Toilet Bolts😨 ha!! ha!!
Steve, LOVE this video. One of the simplest to follow and simplest to build videos I've seen lately. Seems very useful, even necessary as you say. Definitely on my build list!
*opens one of the videos from Steve I bookmarked ages ago Hey, this is a good project I can make this week. It will be really helpful in my Microjig. Maker of the Grrripper.
Dear Steve, Thankyou for all your work with these videos which I like very much. There is however one video I keep waiting to see from you, and that is on the use of a plunge saw, not just for ripping down large sheets of plywood , but in the use for more accurate wood cutting, after all they have some pretty clever and accurate features with them these days. Is it possible you could do a whole project just using one of these plunge saws, and perhaps show us how they compare to the table saw etc. Thankyou once again.
very nice! One note on spreading glue w/ fingers...the insides of those little foam paint brushes work great for that. Just tear off the foam and what's left is a little paddle with a handle. Cheap and easy, and much less messy! :-)
Simple and effective design. I'm making it now. So how did you attached the bolts thru the table to the board? Insert nuts? I missed that. Pls explain. Thanks.
Protip: when cutting a bolt put a nut on it below where you intend to cut. Then, when you thread the nut off it will fix any threads you may have damaged during the cut.
Justin Updyke thanks!
You're welcome. This works on all size bolts but it is especially good on m3 type stuff for RC cars
Well the standard machine shop method is to always chamfer the cut off thread, that way you get rid of any burrs and have an easier time engaging threads.
But if you very specifically need flat ends that is a good way to go.
Thanks! I'm absolutely sure I'll forget that!
Yep, so true... the first time you try to screw a nut on 'after' the cut to fix it will cure you of forgetting. ;-) Chamfer has not always worked well for me... I will sand the ends a bit, just to clean the burrs though. Then, off comes the nut.
I just made this and it came out great! It was also one of the easiest, most forgiving shop jigs / add-ons that I've ever done. Thanks, Steve!

i like the way a lot of the content creators are creating simpler versions of things they have made in the past.
Brilliant, coming from a family of plumbers I commend you on the creative genius of the use of the brass toilet bowl flange bolts.

That's a cool Jig! Definitly gotta try it Steve!
Nice Project Steve. I like how the base is just a plain board, with a separate fence. Makes it easier to replace the table once it gets worn out.

I really can’t like this jig enough. Simple but so very bloody effective. Cheers Steve. 👍
Thanks for the plans, especially the metric conversion, for we, europeans who love your channel!
i am no woodworkerm nor a craftsmen of any sort, but i love the videos and i know some day all this willcome into the works]

Thanks for your good ideas, the things you make very easy. Congratulations! Greetings from Cochabamba, Bolivia
I like the fact that you use your finger to spread the glue. The best tools are still our hands :)
Steve, you've always inspired me so much. Thanks for keeping it easy and worthwhile. Much love sir!
Easy, fast and practical. I am gonna make this tomorrow
You're a genius Steve!
Nice design, not complicated. I will make one. thanks for sharing.
Very handy project. I would like to see your version of a wooden tool box or a tool chest. Thank you for sharing. Thanks to MicroJig and Graphic Stock for sponsoring the show.
I made this exactly like steve made it and its great,,,best drill press table on you tube!!!!!!!
Nice simple build. Really useful. Putting this in my projects file.

I like the way you made the t track and used toilet bolts. Thanks.
Nice improvements on your older drill press table.
I love the way you build the t trak.
Super simple Steve. Thanks much!👍🤙✌️😃
Nice. great design Steve.
Great drill table, I'll remember this when I get my new drill press!
Pretty cool way to make a T-Track! I like it.
Very good. Well worth the effort to make one. Thks
Thank you Steve love your work
I like your fence clamp! Thank you.
Love how you made the T track. I have seen it done on a router table but that is very clever and easy.
Clever design.
those kreg clamps look pretty slick!
Great job! Greetings from Poland!
I've been looking for something like this for a while, this is the best I've found!
One of your best projects. More vids like this please.
